2. Proud flesh
• Proud flesh is an extra growth of granulation tissue on above the surface
of skin.
• It has appearance like cauliflower.
• It usually develops over an open wound, and most often occurs in areas of
excessive tension and motion.
3. Appearance:
During the migratory phase of wound healing, granulation tissue is:
• Light red or dark pink in color
• Soft to the touch
• Moist
• Granular in appearance.
• Pulseful on palpation

5. Structure:
Granulation tissue is composed of tissue matrix supporting a variety of cell
types, most of which can be associated with one of the following functions:
• Formation of extracellular matrix,
• Operation of the immune system,
• Vascularization
6. Treatment:
• Inject Local anesthesia (Lignocaine) locally.
• If there is deep cavity, fresh it.
• All granulation tissue should be cut with scalpel to bring it back at
the level of skin.
• Dried up with help of gauze.
• Tincture Iodine be used to soak the gauze as per size of cavity, and
placed over there.
• Non irritant antiseptic should be applied. (eg: Pyodine)
7. • Reduced portion should be treated with Caustic solution:
2 % Agno3
Carbolic acid crystals
KOH crystals
NaoH
• Broad spectrum antibiotic Streptopenecellin @ 10 gram daily for 5 – 7 days.
• 100 gram Nacl be given to the animal once daily till recovery of wound.
• Nacl may be sprinkled on fodder given to animal.
12. Precautions:
• Do not handle the case with bear hands.
• Use rubber gloves
• Dry the wound with the help of Gauze soaked in tincture iodine solution.
