INT. APARTMENT - DAY
MELISSA is sitting on the couch reading when there is a
KNOCK at the door. She gets up and goes to open it.
Standing in the doorway is MARTY. Melissa is a bit
confused at the sight of him.
MELISSA
Hey Marty. What are you doing
here?
Marty looks a bit embarrassed. He looks up.
Can I come in?
MARTY
Melissa is hesitant but lets him in. Marty starts pacing
around the room.
MELISSA
What can I do for you?
Marty keeps pacing then finally turns to look at her.
MARTY
Look, I don’t know how else to say
this so I’m just going to say it.
Okay...
MELISSA
MARTY
I leave in the morning.
MELISSA
Are you going on vacation?
MARTY
Not exactly. I’m being deployed
overseas.
MELISSA
I didn’t even know you were in the
military.
MARTY
Yeah, I kind of joined the other
night accidentally.
MELISSA
How do you accidentally join the
military?
Marty shrugs his shoulders.

MARTY
That doesn’t matter. The point is,
now that I have to go I have a few
things I have to get off my chest.
Okay.
MELISSA
MARTY
I think I’m in love with you.
Melissa is a bit shocked. Not quite sure what to say.
MARTY
I’ve had a crush on you ever since
you moved into the apartment
complex.
Melissa is still shocked.
MELISSA
Uh, thank you, I guess.
MARTY
I just wanted you to know that.
I’m not sure what’s going to
happen over seas and I didn’t want
to have any regrets.
MELISSA
Well, that’s very sweet of you.
(beat)
I kind of have a boyfriend.
MARTY
I know. And I don’t want to ruin
anything between you and him, I
just wanted you to know how I
felt.
MELISSA
Okay, well thank you.
She motions for the door. Marty starts to walk towards it
before turning around.
MARTY
Do you think it would be okay if I
wrote you?
Melissa thinks for a second.
MELISSA
I don’t know if that would be a
good idea. My boyfriend and all.

I understand. I just ...Well, I
don’t really know a lot of people,
and by writing you it would feel
like I actually had a friend in
the states.
(beat)
You don’t have to respond or
anything. I just ...I don’t know.
I just thought that maybe...
Melissa opens the door. He starts to walk through and
turns back.
MARTY
Thanks for listening.
He turns to leave and Melissa stops him. She reaches up
and kisses him on the cheek.
MELISSA
If you really want to write me,
you can.
Marty smiles.
Thanks.
MARTY
FADE TO BLACK.
