AIMS
The Young Creatives Awards 2018/2019 is a competition organised by Inner West Library and
History Services.
The Young Creatives Awards 2018 encouraged talented young illustrators and writers living,
working or studying in the Inner West Council and who are a member of one of the Inner West
Libraries to compete for two awards.
The two awards, Young Writer and Young Illustrator were opened to Inner West students and
residents aged 12-18 years.
Main requirement was to produce a piece in response to the Library’s collection.
Writers were required to produce approximately 1000 words based on their chosen work and
illustrators were asked to provide four A 3 illustrations.

The Carnival by Moss Johnson, Fort
Street High (16-18)
A whimsical melody floated up from the Coney
Island merry-go-round, its jauntily painted
horses almost gaudy in the afternoon sun.
Further down the boardwalk, a tinny voice was
singing from a gramophone, and even further
down, towards the Big Tent, distant screams
from the rollercoaster echoed down to the
pastel streaks of sand and sea. The park was
slowly grinding into the next gear, preparing for
the crowds that came to admire the electric
lights at night, laughing with delight at the
fireworks that were set off every Saturday
night, teenagers daring each other to go on the
rollercoaster…..
Lockwood & Co, The Empty Grave
Book by Aoife Brazil, St Scholastica's
Suddenly it hit me. A wave of shrieking and
cackling and screaming, all at once. I fell to the
ground with a thump and the noise died. I
picked myself up, unsheathed my rapier and
motioned towards the convenience store. We
knew that the source had to be around there
somewhere, and a small store would be the
perfect place to hide something. We easily
cracked open the steel gate and back to back,
rapiers at the ready, headed into the tiny shop

Hi everyone my name is Lysele Assarapin, acting Library Programs Coordinator at Inner West Council Libraries.
Today Veronique and I will be presenting and speaking how our Libraries engage with our community to empower youth and the adult audiences.
Before I start I would like to show the video that we produced for the 2019 YCA.
I will speak about the YCA 2018 and draw comparisons to 2019 and the increase is participation.
Branding the YCA
I wanted to ask prominent authors as well as a local school teacher in the mix
