2. pay with a tweet w/ Airtweet
• What is it? AirTweet is a web service that allows consumers to
pre-order at their favorite restaurants with a Tweet.
• How does it work? A user signs up with AirTweet, enters his
credit card information, and then tweets out an order at the
business’ Twitter account using a specific order format. AirTweet
processes the credit card transaction and the merchant is alerted
of the order by Twitter message and e-mail.
• Why It Works? The consumer gets to skip the line at popular
restaurants, retailers, or venues, by pre-ordering. The merchant
benefits by earning media in the form of a Tweet.
• Opportunities: AirTweet is an effective way to drive product trial
and to promote a partnership with any music venue, club, or bar.
• Happy Hour/Pre-Game Event: Earn your first Smirnoff cocktail
by promoting the Happy Hour using AirTweet.
• Buy Your Friend a Drink: Friends can order their friends drinks
at bars across the city via AirTweet.
• Pre-register for a local party via AirTweet (serves as lead
generation tool and publicity source for the marketer).
3. viddy? an instagram for video?
• What is it? Viddy is an iPhone app that lets users shoot short
videos, edit the footage, and then and apply Instagram-like filter
effects.
• Why does it matter? Just a week after Facebook acquired
Instagram for $1 billion, it’s hard not to look at Instagram-inspired
start-ups as destined for the same glory. Viddy may be prove to
be just as much an addictive and thus successful project, but
what’s more interesting (for now) is that it’s acquiring new users
incredibly quickly: on 4/12, Viddy earned 300,000 users in just 24
hours.
• VentureBeat attributes this amazing growth to “Timeline Bump,”
or surge in usage that followers integration with Facebook’s new
Open Graph protocol, which lets lets apps broadcast user activity
“seamlessly,” or without repeated permission.
• Why It Works? Spotify entered the US market just as Facebook
released the Open Graph: as new users joined Spotify and
automatically broadcasted their music listening to their friends,
more and more new users signed up for the service. The same
strategy applies to Viddy.
• Open Graph integration doesn’t work for all apps (like Evernote,
for example), but it does help apps that produce interesting
personal information—a current playlist—or interest content—a
new picture or new video—acquire prospective users.
4. sprinklr, social media tool for scale
• What is it? Sprinklr is a social media tool that has received little
attention in the press, and yet is quickly acquiring several Fortune
500 companies—Samsung, Microsoft, Dell, Cisco, SAP, Target,
Nike, and Virgin America—as customoers.
• What does it do best? Sprinklr is about scale: for big brands
who must manage their presences on a number of platforms.
• VentureBeat describes, “For example, Microsoft uses Spinklr
to maintain, track, and analyze many of its Facebook pages,
Twitter accounts, and YouTube channels. Dell uses the service
in even more ways, tapping into Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,
Slideshare, and LinkedIn.”
