Balance Fresh Supermarket Design
The art of Japanese design has deeply inspired my interior spaces. I appreciate the simplistic, naturalistic and modern ele-
ments of Japanese aesthetics and aspire to incorporate them in my designs. The warmth from the wood and the modern
feel of the simple volumes contributes to the minimalistic design style. Balance fresh is a supermarket project that uses a
traditional japanese material and colour pallete of black stone and wood.

Takashi Restaurant
The restaurant project Shi creates a serene space through clean design. The project consists of redesigning the tradition-
al Japanese shoji screen to conceal the VIP space. A touch of simplicity is added with the hanging bulbs and large open
shelves for storage. Takashi incorporate custom made furniture like the tables and tea booth in the restaurant.

Cyclistets Centre
Located in Burjuman Metro Station, Cyclist Center encourages people to cycle to the metro station so as to be more
eco friendly. The space caters to service and sell cycles. The supporting cafe aims to gathar cycle enthusiasts together.
When designing this retail space the most important aspect was its façade which helps attract people and dis-
play products. The facade helps attract customers to the shop. Therefore, I attempted to take the most prom-
inent and interesting part of the cycle, it’s wheel . Repitition of the wheel unit helped create a plane which di-
vides space and attracts customers. Hence, as one steps into the metro station they see the wheel wall.

LIVE / WORK / EXHIBIT | Pottery Artist
Essentially, the bastikiya area has houses made from coral reef. Hence the exterior walls of this house are made from
concrete to create contrast between the old and the new. The entrance protudes out into the street inviting people into
the space. The spaces in the house were designed around the central courtyard. The narrow streets of the bastakiya are
replicated in the interior circulation by allowing natural light to penetrate through a slat system made of concrete slabs.
The slats are long enough to block direct sunlight but allow natural air and light.

Brick Wall
Work
The pottery artist’s requirements
were taken into considration and
a work table was designed to fol-
low the artist’s daily work ritual.
This space incorporates a view
into the courtyard. The work
space can be accessed from the
private living room and the pub-
lic exhibition space. The table
has a skylight situated directly
above to provide enough light to
work during the day.
Exhibition
The ceiling is made from suspended clay
pots that are held by a metal chain. The
space is naturally lit up by the light that
enters through the gaps present between
the pots as well as the gap between the
pot ceiling and the concrete wall.
Pots can be exhibited on :
1) Floating volume at the end of the
room under the shadows created by
the pot ceiling
2) Fixed volume attatched to the con-
crete wall which lights up the pots with
natural direct sunlight
3) Pool of water can be added to the
left side to incorporate a cool soothing
element to display pots in
BRICKS | Brick Wall + Bathing Ritual
The Brickwall model was completed in 3 weeks. The aim of the project was to use the oldest material used in construc-
tion in a new way. The design was inspired by the art of folding paper, ORIGAMI, which originates from Japan. The fusion
of origami in a brick wall helped transform the wall from a simple plane to a PLAYFULL FORM. Through the simple mech-
anism of pulling and pushing bricks, the wall incorporates dynamism. The real challenge was making the wall free stand-
ing. The model was built to a SCALE OF 1:10 from basswood bricks (1*3*0.5 cm) to create a wall of 70 cm by 40cm.

How does one make the most common day to day activity of taking a bath a different experience?
The bathing ritual incorporates three different experiences to creat one sacred ritual. Bathing involves the process of cleansing which takes place in a dark
shallow pool full of steamy hot water which sanitises ones body. The next step would be to proceed for a cool dip in the water. As your legs are submerged
within water, the sun shines on your face and arms providing warmth. Finally one submerses themselves under the waterfall cleansing themselves and dis-
covers the cool dark space behind.

COMPETITIONS | Roca + Social Storm + Tile Fabrication
Social Storm : In this group competition we attempted to create an efficient environment that encourages kids in rural
areas to self study.
Roca : For this competition, I redesigned the way we use water. To conserve water, my solution involved controlling the
use of water by our body weight instead of our hands.
Material Fabrication : Through various experiments, we designed a unique tile which incorporated the texture of fabric
and fabric itself.
Competition
Social Storm 2015
I took up this 24 hours group challenge
with two of my design colleagues. The
Reconstruct initiative aimed to help
educate children of China who worked
at home/factories and were too busy to
attend school.
The initiative created a sustainable
space that was like a modern play-
ground which welcomed children at any
time of day or night. The books stacked
here are simple leaflets organised by
levels which can be read within half an
hour. They are course specific so that
the child could read about the course
which interested them. The advantage
of such a space is that it doesnt require

The first relationship was the texture the fabric left behind when it had been removed from the cement. The second
was an integration of fabric on the tile itself. We merged these two relations to create a wall tile. To make the the flat
wall dynamic, each tile was layered over the next at an angle. When applied on a wall, from one side the wall seems
very smooth as you see the fabric edges. In contrast from the other side the wall seems to have a rough texture
because of the ridges the fabric left behind.
Aesthetics :
Application : Wall Tile
Each tile overlaps the next by 1 cm
Dimensions : 13 x 60 x 1 cm
Material Fabrication
Cement+ Fabric
Contrast + Dynamism - For the final design, we chose our best
experiment. The contrast created by the undulating rustic tex-
ture combined with the smooth edge was interesting.

HOT METAL | DESIGN BUILD IDE 402
For our final year studio project at AUS, we redesigned a space in the basement of the Architecture and Design (CAAD) build-
ing. Initially, the space was being utilised for displaying student work but we soon realised that students needed a work space.
Hence, our design approach was to create a space which was interactive for students. However, we had to consider the need for
the space to be free so that large machinery could be easily moved in and out of the CAAD basement. Therefore, the need for
flexibility determined our design. HOT METAL is essentially a metal wall from which students can pull out benches and flip out
tables to work on. The metal panels above allow sheets to be displayed up using magnets for design reviews and classes.
The program is a work space that is comfortable, clean and flexible with a good lighting system.
This wall is made of metal sheets, cut, bent, and hung by us. We worked with a square module that
divides itself up into smaller modules creating a pattern. In the bottom half, the wall is interactive
where one can sit down to work or eat or chat.

MODEL MAKING
The Wheel Wall
This model was made to support my studio project, Cyclists
Center. The model represented Cyclists Center’s facade which had
an interactive wheel wall where cycling accesories were displayed
Scale - 1:10
Materials : Wood + Paint + Pins + Museum Board + Pins
Aim : Each wheel has a thin wood skewer passing through it
which enables the wheels to turn 360 degrees.
Integration
This project required me to study the relationship of different ele-
ments interacting together to create heirarchy and symmetry.
Aim : Frame + Plane + Found Objecr + Solid
Materials. Bass Wood + Bulb + Museum Board

I appreciate the simplistic, naturalistic and modern ele- ments of Japanese aesthetics and aspire to incorporate them in my designs. The warmth from the wood and the modern feel of the simple volumes contributes to the minimalistic design style. • 25. 3 Cyclistets Centre Located in Burjuman Metro Station, Cyclist Center encourages people to cycle to the metro station so as to be more eco friendly. The space caters to service and sell cycles. The supporting cafe aims to gathar cycle enthusiasts together. When designing this retail space the most important aspect was its façade which helps attract people and dis- play products. The facade helps attract customers to the shop. Therefore, I attempted to take the most prom- inent and interesting part of the cycle, it’s wheel . Repitition of the wheel unit helped create a plane which di- vides space and attracts customers. Hence, as one steps into the metro station they see the wheel wall.

Hence the exterior walls of this house are made from concrete to create contrast between the old and the new. The entrance protudes out into the street inviting people into the space. The spaces in the house were designed around the central courtyard. The narrow streets of the bastakiya are replicated in the interior circulation by allowing natural light to penetrate through a slat system made of concrete slabs. The slats are long enough to block direct sunlight but allow natural air and light.
  • 38. Project Number 3 Live The courtyard is central to the house but its views are mainly enjoyed from the living area making it a private courtyard.
  • 39. Brick Wall Work The pottery artist’s requirements were taken into considration and a work table was designed to fol- low the artist’s daily work ritual. This space incorporates a view into the courtyard. The work space can be accessed from the private living room and the pub- lic exhibition space. The table has a skylight situated directly above to provide enough light to work during the day.
  • 40. Exhibition The ceiling is made from suspended clay pots that are held by a metal chain. The space is naturally lit up by the light that enters through the gaps present between the pots as well as the gap between the pot ceiling and the concrete wall. Pots can be exhibited on : 1) Floating volume at the end of the room under the shadows created by the pot ceiling 2) Fixed volume attatched to the con- crete wall which lights up the pots with natural direct sunlight 3) Pool of water can be added to the left side to incorporate a cool soothing element to display pots in
  • 41. BRICKS | Brick Wall + Bathing Ritual The Brickwall model was completed in 3 weeks. The aim of the project was to use the oldest material used in construc- tion in a new way. The design was inspired by the art of folding paper, ORIGAMI, which originates from Japan. The fusion of origami in a brick wall helped transform the wall from a simple plane to a PLAYFULL FORM. Through the simple mech- anism of pulling and pushing bricks, the wall incorporates dynamism. The real challenge was making the wall free stand- ing. The model was built to a SCALE OF 1:10 from basswood bricks (1*3*0.5 cm) to create a wall of 70 cm by 40cm. 5

  • 44. How does one make the most common day to day activity of taking a bath a different experience? The bathing ritual incorporates three different experiences to creat one sacred ritual. Bathing involves the process of cleansing which takes place in a dark shallow pool full of steamy hot water which sanitises ones body. The next step would be to proceed for a cool dip in the water. As your legs are submerged within water, the sun shines on your face and arms providing warmth. Finally one submerses themselves under the waterfall cleansing themselves and dis- covers the cool dark space behind.
  • 45. 6 COMPETITIONS | Roca + Social Storm + Tile Fabrication Social Storm : In this group competition we attempted to create an efficient environment that encourages kids in rural areas to self study. Roca : For this competition, I redesigned the way we use water. To conserve water, my solution involved controlling the use of water by our body weight instead of our hands. Material Fabrication : Through various experiments, we designed a unique tile which incorporated the texture of fabric and fabric itself.
  • 46. Competition Social Storm 2015 I took up this 24 hours group challenge with two of my design colleagues. The Reconstruct initiative aimed to help educate children of China who worked at home/factories and were too busy to attend school. The initiative created a sustainable space that was like a modern play- ground which welcomed children at any time of day or night. The books stacked here are simple leaflets organised by levels which can be read within half an hour. They are course specific so that the child could read about the course which interested them. The advantage of such a space is that it doesnt require

  • 50. The first relationship was the texture the fabric left behind when it had been removed from the cement. The second was an integration of fabric on the tile itself. We merged these two relations to create a wall tile. To make the the flat wall dynamic, each tile was layered over the next at an angle. When applied on a wall, from one side the wall seems very smooth as you see the fabric edges. In contrast from the other side the wall seems to have a rough texture because of the ridges the fabric left behind. Aesthetics : Application : Wall Tile Each tile overlaps the next by 1 cm Dimensions : 13 x 60 x 1 cm Material Fabrication Cement+ Fabric Contrast + Dynamism - For the final design, we chose our best experiment. The contrast created by the undulating rustic tex- ture combined with the smooth edge was interesting.

Initially, the space was being utilised for displaying student work but we soon realised that students needed a work space. Hence, our design approach was to create a space which was interactive for students. However, we had to consider the need for the space to be free so that large machinery could be easily moved in and out of the CAAD basement. Therefore, the need for flexibility determined our design. HOT METAL is essentially a metal wall from which students can pull out benches and flip out tables to work on. The metal panels above allow sheets to be displayed up using magnets for design reviews and classes.
  • 56. The program is a work space that is comfortable, clean and flexible with a good lighting system. This wall is made of metal sheets, cut, bent, and hung by us. We worked with a square module that divides itself up into smaller modules creating a pattern. In the bottom half, the wall is interactive where one can sit down to work or eat or chat.
