9. Identify
Identify your team members and decide the role
and duties each person will perform during
emergencies. Have alternates in case someone
is injured or is not on site that day.

10. Schedule Meetings
Schedule regular meetings to keep your team up to
date on procedures and plans. The cohesion created
from meetings will also increase the effectiveness of
your response.

11. Training Exercises
Choose both “inconvenient” and “convenient” times to do
your training exercises. Team members should be
comfortable and confident for multiple scenarios during
various times of the school day.
Don’t forget to invite your first responders to your meetings
and training sessions so you will be able to jointly respond.

14. Name Your Incident Commander & Alternate
The commander should use an Incident Command System to digitally store and share with other
team members and first responders during and after emergencies.

16. Communicate
Communicating with your team members is very important but also
know how you will communicate with first responders, school
personnel, students, and their parents.
Create and train with:
- Family Reunification Plans
- Internal Communication Plans for During & After an
Incident
- After Incident Responses (Communicating with students,
teachers and the community)

18. Multi-Hazards Evacuation Procedures
Know how and when you will evacuate for multiple scenarios including:
Chemical Spills Fire Bomb Threats Natural Disasters Active Shooters

Set evacuation protocols in place, share them and practice evacuations and include your responders.
