WHO IS A CHILD?
• Biologically A Child is a human being between the
stages of birth and puberty.
• A young human being below the age of puberty or
below the legal age of majority.
WHAT IS CHILD EDUCATION?
Child Education is a term that refers to educational
programs and strategies geared towards children from
birth to the age of fourteen.
WHY CHILD EDUCATION?
Education is the road that children follow to reach their
full potential in life.
OBJECTIVES OF CHILD EDUCATION
• Promotes holistic development of child
• Prepares child for formal schooling
• Contributes in Universal Elementary Education
• Reduces wastage and stagnation at primary school

 Child Education as feeder and support programme to
primary schooling & as first step in the education ladder
 Emphasized need for play based and joyful Child Education
 Warned against formal teaching of the 3R’s (reading,
writing and arithmetic)
CHILD EDUCATION IN NATIONAL

 Constitutional Commitments : Article 45
 The State shall endeavor to provide ECCE for all Children until they
complete the age of six years.
 Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act , 2009
 Age 6 to 14 years
 Class 1 to 8
 Section 11 : Pertains to ECCE
 ‘With a view to prepare children above the age of three years
for elementary education and to provide ECCE for all children
until they complete the age of six years, the appropriate
government may take necessary arrangement for providing free
pre primary education for such children’.

  • 2. WHO IS A CHILD? • Biologically A Child is a human being between the stages of birth and puberty. • A young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority.

CHILD EDUCATION IN NATIONAL POLICIES AND PROGRAMS  Constitutional Commitments : Article 45  The State shall endeavor to provide ECCE for all Children until they complete the age of six years.  Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act , 2009  Age 6 to 14 years  Class 1 to 8  Section 11 : Pertains to ECCE  ‘With a view to prepare children above the age of three years for elementary education and to provide ECCE for all children until they complete the age of six years, the appropriate government may take necessary arrangement for providing free pre primary education for such children’.
