Definition : Who Is a Women Entrepreneur ?
“Women entrepreneurs are the women or a group of women
who initiate, organize and operate a business enterprise.”
 The Govt. of India notes women entrepreneurs as
“Enterprise owned and controlled by women saving a
minimum financial interest of 51% of the capital and giving
at least 51% of the employment generated in the
enterprise to women”.
1 - Accept Challenges- Though there are barriers women ent.
Face and accept challenges to achieve their goal. They strive in
this competitive world to reach to the top.
2. Ambitious- They aim for the top and they dream big.
3. Drive - They keep on moving forward.
4. Enthusiastic - Great eagerness to do new things.
5. Hard work - women are hard workers as we all know that
women have to struggle to exercise their rights.
6. Patience - Whether it is the office or home they way women
deal with situation is marvelous
7. Industrious - Hard working
8. Motivation - when a women has decided that wants to reach
to a certain position she self-motivates herself by doing new
and creative things.
9. Skillful - Women have the ability and the expertise to do
their work skillfully.
10. Unquenchable Optimism - Women thirst for optimism
cannot be satisfied she is always opts for a positive attitude
towards difficulties.
11. Adventurous - Women take risks and move ahead it’s their
risk taking ability which makes them known to the world.
12. Conscious - she is aware of her surroundings and who she
is.
(Her identity)
13. Educated - Women entrepreneurs’ are qualified and have
good education of which they make best use.
14. Determination to excel - They are always firm on the
purpose to do better than or greater than others.
15. Keenness to learn and imbibe new ideas - They are always
eager to learn new things and to absorb new ideas in
themselves.
16. Experienced -Women already have an experience to work
under pressure and do work in a terrible situation.
The literary and educational status of women improved
considerably during the past few decades. More and more high
educational and research institutions are imparting knowledge
and specialization. At this juncture, effective steps are needed to
provide entrepreneurial awareness, orientation and skill
development programs to women. The institutions available at
present are very limited. Moreover, their functions and
opportunities available with them are not popularized much.
Motivation is the key for successful Women Entrepreneurs. They
are in all industries today.
In the US, women own 25% of all business. In Canada they own
1/3 of all business. In France they own1/5 of all business. The
areas of business are Retail, restaurants, hotels, education,
cultural, cleaning, insurance and manufacturing.
Development of women entrepreneurs
1. To face new challenges and opportunities for self-
fulfillment.
2. To prove themselves in innovative jobs.
3. To change the control and maintain balance between
family responsibility and business lives- micro business fits
their life style to control everything. Examples: -
•Women entrepreneurs account for only 4.5 % of the
population of India
•Leading business women in India: ChandaKocchar-
Executive director, ICICI Bank; Ekta Kapoor- Creative
Director, Balajitelefilms.
Women entrepreneur enjoy the support of their father, mother
or husband who might already be working in their independent
business. Women entrepreneurs usually venture into a new
business in their early 30s after completing their education and
after marriage. They usually have prior experience in their new
venture as a result of education and exposure to realities of
business. Women entrepreneurs usually desire freedom and
independence. They don’t want to work under any superior.
They are self-confident and hence have a high tolerance for
uncertainty and obstacle. They are usually moderate risk takers
and have high energy level. In the startup of business they may
face problems such as liquidity or availability of funds. It
generally takes some time to break-even in a new business.
Chances of success are usually high in smaller businesses.
Women entrepreneurs have the ability to accept
challenges. They have characteristics such as
ambitious, adventurous, hardworking, optimism,
patience, skillful and industrious. They have a
drive to achieve success while facing challenges.
They have the enthusiasm to learn new ideas.
They are conscious and are aware about the
ground realities. They are educated and hence
intelligent
The most daunting challenge that women
entrepreneurs face is the prevalence of male
dominated society due to which they face various
social issues. Generally women are expected to
fulfill family obligations as per the cultural values
and social beliefs existing in the society due to
which they face the role conflict between family
and business. Women in many countries including
India face gender discrimination.
