1. A creative scholarship award of global leadership empowerment for girls
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Poesy Liang, interdisciplinary artist, designer and founder of Helping Angels, in
collaboration with US based 501(c)3 charity Giveable Giggles have established a residency scholarship called the
Poesy Prize. During the 5-day retreat, a creative female university student, a youth leader will take residence with
Liang at her art production house to receive mentorship in a customised program that aims to foster skills to inspire,
lead and impact change.
The goal of the Poesy Prize is to facilitate cultural exposure and leadership spirit by means of creative & influential
use of resources, to impact and develop bridges for humanity. While the annual program location may change each
year, it will be a connection for individuals who are inspired from a place of purpose and calling. Each year, the
founder of Giveable Giggles, Jessica Steinberg, will select a scholar who will be the recipient of the Poesy Prize
award. The criterion includes: an interest in the arts, unique skills, leadership qualities, international awareness and
passion in humanitarian objectives. The Poesy Prize program will include opportunities to build new projects,
engage in current humanitarian initiatives, life coaching, career placements, artistic brainstorming, cultural
experience, exposure to global networks of impactful individuals, introductions to other mentors, and a lifetime
membership of the Poesy Prize.
This resonates with Giveable Giggles’ mission of helping individuals find their calling. Steinberg believes in “using
your passion to change the world,” and the Poesy Prize is one program developed to achieve the same objectives.
Likewise, Liang says, “one of the most direct ways to impact humanity is to educate & empower women, my effort
is to enrich one skillful girl at a time”.
In the inaugural year of the Poesy Prize a young lady named Anoushka Shah from Pune, India will receive the 2017
scholarship. Shah is a fourth year student of International Relations and Social Anthropology at the University of St.
Andrews in Scotland. Art has been an essential component of Shah’s life, and she has shown exceptional qualities to
excel as a leader among her peers in Scotland and in India. One quality that makes Shah unique is her ambition,
intellectual drive and compassion for people, no matter their identity.
2. The partnership between Poesy Liang and Jessica Steinberg was founded in Beijing, China in 2015 where they met at
the UN Asia Nexus Summit. Ever since, they have worked closely together as friends, serial frame changers and
mentors. Poesy Prize was the instant result of an exchange between the women when Steinberg visited Liang’s Kuala
Lumpur creative premises for an artistic retreat in December 2015. This is the brainchild of their many hours of
mindwalking led by their innovative passion and aspirations; they both understand the power of connecting inspired
individuals, the humanities and creativity, particularly to cultivate abilities that combines practical altruism into
business leadership, hence, the two teamed together to create a scholarship program to foster a unique leadership
abilities in the hand-selected individuals.
Steinberg founded Giveable Giggles when she was only 13 years old. Since then she has organized, led and
facilitated international-volunteer-cultural-entrepreneurship programs to seven different countries, and has worked
as a journalist in four. Currently she is a fourth year student pursuing a joint honors degree of International
Relations and Social Anthropology at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Liang and Steinberg are incredibly excited to invite Shah to KL to embark in this life purpose discovery. There is
greatness in the power ofwomen who share a common idea of piecing the world together through skillful means. As
this is a purposeful opportunity for diplomatic relations and youth leadership, we welcome participation of related
local consulates. Please follow the programs and activities of the Poesy Prize scholarship award at
