Keynote delivered by Lajos Lange, Matthias Naber from Axel Springer, and Tore Sagstuen from Fjord IT. In order to ensure diverse, independent and high quality journalism in the future there is a need to rethink the classic publisher business while IT has to become part of the core products. On the way to digital transformation, we have to adapt to agile methodologies, and historically grown, complex infrastructures have to be reinvented in order to speed up the development process. With Cloud Foundry, we realized our vision of an innovative, fully automated service delivery platform by accelerating the time and quantity to market rate and reducing IT costs at the same time. The service oriented nature of the PaaS approach enables a modularization strategy for applications. We will discuss how Cloud Foundry’s capabilities helped to establish a culture of prototyping in combination with continuous delivery and business intelligence in order to form minimal viable products.

- LL Das Geschäftsjahr 2011 haben wir sehr erfolgreich abgeschlossen und erneut ein Rekordergebnis erzielt. Das Wachstum der Konzernerlöse von rund 10% auf knapp 3,2 Milliarden Euro zeigt erneut die Erfolge der Internationalisierung und vor allem der Digitalisierung unseres Geschäfts. Das EBITDA des gesamten Konzerns – das Ergebnis vor Steuern, Zinsen und Abschreibungen – ist mit rund 16% stärker gestiegen als die Erlöse: Mit einem Wert von rund 540 Millionen Euro erzielte Axel Springer eine neue Bestmarke. Bemerkenswert ist bei dem linken Balkendiagramm das weiß/schwarz dargestellte Verhältnis von Umsatzerlösen Digital zu Umsatzerlösen Print: 2002 erwirtschafteten wir weniger als 2 % unserer Erlöse online. Demgegenüber wurde 2010 bereits jeder vierte Euro im digitalen Umfeld verdient und 2011 betrug der Anteil der digitalen Medien an den Konzernerlösen erstmals mehr als 30 %. Hintergrundinformation: Die EBITDA-Rendite verbesserte sich von 17,6% auf 18,6% und unterstreicht die Ertragsstärke des Unternehmens. Der Konzernüberschuss übertraf den Vorjahreswert mit € 289,4 Mio. um 5,6 %.

Die Unternehmenskultur von Axel Springer beruht auf drei Werten Unternehmertum, Integrität und Kreativität. Dr. Mathias Döpfner hatte diese unlängst mit dem Satz „seid erfolgreich, tut Gutes und habt Spaß“ griffig umschrieben. - Together with the short build-measure-learn cycles, the development should also keep up to the speed. The point where we came from (see Welt Online development until 2011) points out, that there were quite old-fashioned software development strategies. Release cycles were roughly about 2 weeks with little chance to make changes in between.
