2. The ATP was inaugurated in 1972 by a group
of players. It was created with the intention to
protect and safeguard the interests of all
those male tennis players. A year
later, formalized women Women's
Tennis Association for the same
purpose. The organization soon took on
the responsibility to create
an official ranking professional tennis
players, which began the following year
and continues today.
3. Since 1990, the association has organized
the main circuit of men's
tennis worldwide, known as ATP Tour.
4. The ATP headquarters is located in
London, Great Britain, the American division is
based in
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the European base
d in Monaco, and finally the one dedicated to
the rest of the world, including Africa, Asia
and Oceania has its base in Sydney, Australia.
5. Today the ATP World Tour has
several categories of implicit tournaments on
the circuit, specifically the Grand Slams, and
the pyramid of decreasing ATP World Tour
Masters1000, ATP World Tour 500, ATP World
Tour 250
and Challenger and Future events . The
ATP World Tour also oversees the World
Team Cup which takes place in Düsseldorf in
May and the Blackrock Tour of
Champions Veteran.
