Information for Nail and Fungus Laser
Post Treatment
Onychomycosis (fungal Nails) are common and affects the nail plate, nail bed, nail growth and
the surrounding skin. This infection can also result in athletes’ foot or visa versa. Symptoms of
this infection can range from itching and blistering of the skin on the foot.
The following treatments after the laser will minimize the possibility of re-infection of the nails.
With this we can also address the fungal infection on the feet as a whole. Fungal infection in
the feet may take up to 6 – 12 months to clear. It is also important to manage this strict
treatment regime in the future to avoid re-infections occurring.
Please read the notes carefully below for how the nail fungus (Tichophyton Rubrum) can be
transmitted to re-infect the nail and the skin.
• Shoes and Socks: We recommend the use of an antifungal spray (FungiSolve) to
treatment and “sterilise” the shoes and socks. Please bring in clean pair of shoes and
socks with you to the next treatment.
• Nail Polish: This can carry nail fungus. Please do not reuse old nail polish after Nail
Laser treatment better getting a new bottle and mark it for the feet.
• Orthotics / Shoe inserts: Please ensure these are clean prior to reuse and regularly.
• Pedicures: The use of communal tools and washing instruments can promote the
spread of fungus. Take your own private instruments with for the follow up pedicure.
• Fingernails: If you have untreated nail fungus on the other areas of the body, this may
cause re-infection of the toenail bed.
2. After Nail Laser Treatment:
No special care is required for your nails after a Nail Laser Treatment. You can trim, decorate
(73 hours after Treatment) and clean your nails as usual. Ensure nails and toes are kept clean and
dry.
To get fast and quality results the following is advised.
1. Antifungal Foot cream – apply Pevaryl , Lamisil or Medipod on the feet - 2x daily for
6moths.
2. Antifungal Foot Spray – MediSolve – Spray lightly in the shoes and allow to dry in the
ventilated shade area
3. Nail Polish: The use of a new bottle of nail polish is preferred, Antifungal nail polish –
Loceryl Nail Laquer or Clearnail Pen, is recommended during the treatment period.
4. Vitamins : Hair and Nail Supplement is advised to improve the nail growth.
5. Oral Medication:
a. Needs to be taken for 2-6 months to ensure the stronger control and healing the
skin and the nail condition.
b. PLEASE NOTE: all oral medication require Liver Function blood Test before and
during the treatment to ensure no damage to the kidneys and the liver during
period of medication.
c. This is also not recommended for people living with:
i. Diabetes,
ii. Kidney or liver complications
Upon clearing of the infection in the feet and the nails it is likely that the antifungal
medication can be a lifelong treatment. Constant personal evaluation of the feet and nails
is required to ally treatment as instructed. It is important follow the following golden rules in
order to prevent any fungal re-infection in the feet and nails.
Do not SHARE nail Clippers
Air out closed shoes
Change footwear and sock often
Apply topical anti-fungal creams and talcum powders on the feet and foot wear.
Note this is a 12 – 18 months treatment as the toe nails are slow growers.
