work with you. The internship opportunity was a great chance for me to enhance my
knowledge, learn practical skills, work in real working environment and apply into

individual as I can meet and work with so many excellent people who instructed me
during my internship. Then, I want to express the deepest appreciation to Ms. Nguyen
Song Bich Khuyen and Ms. Linh for giving a chance to work at Nguyen Van Kip
Primary School. They gave me a lot of knowledge and useful experience that I didn’t
have the opportunity to study at school. I’m so grateful for teaching skills that I learnt
from Mr.Win (English Teacher – My partner), and for everything from the company
has given me the opportunity to work in a good condition.

INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, English is a second language and plays an important role in our life.
It can help us not only communicate with foreigners but also have the opportunity to
work with potential overseas companies. With today’s modern life, English is
currently being taught in almost schools with all of ages.
As a young generation of the country, we always want to develop country and
expand relationship with neighboring countries. This is the responsibility of each of us.
To do this, each of us needs to equip useful knowledge as well as necessary skills. This
responsibility is not only for student but also for teacher and leader. Specifically,
teaching department in general and teaching method in particular play a very important
role in the development of human knowledge.
Therefore, I have chosen English as my path to my success. Moreover, English
is one of the essential and important things in my teaching career. Providing adequate
knowledge, ensuring teaching skills are the basic requirements to be a good teacher.
After a short internship in Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company
Limited, with dedicated guidance in the teaching department and the knowledge which
I have learned at school, I am aware of the role and the importance of teaching student.
From analyzing innovation teaching, combined with innovative teaching methods to
help the company prosper. Thereby, improve the teaching work as well as ensure the
role of language teaching for student.
Therefore, I decide to choose the topic: “A Report On English Teaching
Methods For Primary School Student” for my internship report.
The report consists of three parts:

1.2. The process of formation and development of Bbrothers Company
Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited, was located on Cong
Hoa Street. Ms. Nguyen Song Bich Khuyen was the first people to lay the
foundation for Bbrothers Company on 11/07/2017. Bbrothers is a young and
potential company. They set up the educational system, teaching programs and
recruited staff. The company offers English programs with native English teacher at
many primary schools and secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City. There were
about 10 employees working in the company in the first year. During the past few
years, Bbrothers constantly developing and taking the effort to expand itself. There
are more than 20 staff including English Teacher and Teaching Assistants so far. In
addition, there are around 6 administration and support staff others department.
Although it has only been for 3 years, Bbrothers Company is developing at good
rate. Up to now, the company cooperates with 3 schools:
 Tran Quoc Toan Primary School: 114 Dong Den Street, Ward 14, Tan Binh
District, Ho Chi Minh City.
 Nguyen Van Kip Primary School: 45/33 Tran Thai Tong Street, Ward 15, Tan
Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City.
 Hoang Dieu Secondary School: 49 Hoa Binh, Tan Thoi Hoa, Tan Phu District,
Ho Chi Minh City.

1.4. The function of department
1.4.1. CEO (Chief Executive Officer): Representative of company
CEO is the representative of the company. The CEO is responsible for
making plan as well as realizing specific directions of the company’s vision and
mission. Besides, they organize the structure, establish an efficient management,
propose task and goal of each specific department. They are directly responsible
for profit, law, employees. They ensure that the company is able to achieve its
short and long goal.
1.4.2. Human Resources Manager (HRM)
Human Resources Manager takes a very important role for every business.
Its task is to ensure that the most valuable resource for each organization. This
department directly manages recruitment and selection, training employees. They
organize internal training program. The major activities of HRM include
developing and managing the salary, compensating, managing employments law
(Health and safety, HR policies, Employee right and privacy)

1.4.3. Financial Accounting Department
This department is responsible for assisting the Director in statistics on the
company’s financial – related activities. Besides, the department also settles
contracts with some school partners, pays salaries for employees and pays debt
collection. In addition, this department has the right to recommend rewarding:
increasing salaries, ranks and other benefits for individuals.
1.4.4. Customer Relationship Department
The function of this department is resolve customer’s complaint quickly
and efficiently. Moreover, the department also finds out customer’s need and
proposes the solutions.
1.4.5. Teaching Department
This department is very important in company. It makes a significant
contribution to policy development relating to teaching in the school. They have a
direct impact and influence on the achievements of school goals. This department
is divided into two roles:
 English Teachers (Foreign Teacher): The teacher’s main responsibility is to
teach student in class. Specific works are making teaching plan, creating test for
students. Furthermore, the teacher is responsible for maintaining discipline in the
classroom and evaluating student’s progress through exam, homework, grades,
etc…
 Teaching Assistant (Vietnamese Teacher): Their responsibility is to assist
foreign teacher. The T.A explains to students anything which they don’t
understand. The Assistant also helps with classroom management such as class
attendance, class stability, etc… and helps foreign teacher in teaching preparation
(get equipment and material). Additionally, they do other tasks which have been
given by the teacher or the manager.

2.1. Introduction of Nguyen Van Kip Primary School

Nguyen Van Khip Primary School is located at 45/33 Tran Thai Tong, Ward
15, Tan Binh District.
The school was newly built on September 5, 2005, the opening day of the first
school year with the function of teaching elementary students.
 Material facilities: Nguyen Van Kip Primary School has a total area of
3547 square meters, with a school yard covers of 1561 square meters. The school is
firmly built 1 ground floor, 2 floors. There are 28 classrooms, 1 computer room and 8
functional rooms.

2.2. The teaching procedure at Nguyen Van Kip Primary School
2.2.1. Beginning class
2.2.1.1. Entering the class room
Teacher meets students at the door on the first day of school and every
lesson then. After that telling them how happy they are to teach them. Then,
teacher tells them the procedure when they enter the classroom. Teacher
rehearses entering the classroom the first week of school unit and it becomes
a routine for students. Ask students who enter the room inappropriately to
return the doorway and return appropriately
2.2.1.2. Starting the lesson
Teacher makes some basic question for students to answer, which can
give students a chance to practice their speaking skill
What’s the date to day?
What’s the weather today?
What are you wearing today?
How are you today?
2.2.2.During lesson
During the lesson, the teacher uses English and translates it into
Vietnamese with the difficult part for student easy to get it.
 New words and grammar: These are the important part of
teaching procedure. Teacher lets student work in pairs or group of four to read a
story in textbook and find out some new words which they don’t know. Besides,
students improve their reading skill through learning new words. Moreover,
teacher gives a lot of synonyms or antonyms words or the words are not in the
lesson. After that, teacher reads out loud and asks students to read it by using
basic phrases:

Listen and repeat, please!
Repeat after me, please!
Again, please!
During this stage, teacher communicates shortly to help students learn
more the knowledge. Especially, it can make students practice speaking a short
sentence by answering some question related to the grammar in the lesson. Then,
the teacher lets students practice many times, corrects the mistakes about
pronunciation and grammar. The teacher also gives some compliments on
students who did well. For example:
Very good!
Good job!
Well done!
That’s right!
 Getting student attention: teacher uses a simple 5-finger
countdown. By the time, when they are at zero, all students have all eyes and ears
on them.
2.2.3. Ending class
Teacher reviews the lesson, create some activities related to some
knowledge which students have learnt already to check students’ level of
understanding. Then, assign and remind students to do homework at home. After
finishing every lesson, teacher always say that:
Goodbye class, see you later!
Our lesson stops here!
Don’t forget to do the homework class!

Sometimes teacher says goodbye by turning on the “goodbye to you” song
and dances with students:

This is the main English textbook using at school. Students have to use it in
English classes. Each student has 2 books – student book and workbook. During the
lesson, students use mainly Student book, the workbook is used for homework. After
one week, the teacher will check the Workbook. If students do the homework well, they
will receive bonus point such as a sticker or a learning tool.
Furthermore, “Family and Friends” helps students develop English skills with
variety of methods that are suitable for elementary students. The material focuses on
listening – speaking skill through vocabulary in practical situations. In addition, it’s easy
for students to remember the songs and read text in the book, the exercises after each
section help them improve reading – writing skill.
With the Family and Friends Special Edition book series creates familiarity
making students enjoy participating in developing 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading
and writing when teacher organizes activities.

A teaching day at Nguyen Van Kip School is divided into two shifts: morning
shift and afternoon shift. The lesson starts at 7:30 and finishes at 11:20 in the morning;
starts at 13:00 and finishes at 16:30 in the afternoon. Each lesson lasts an hour and half.
Teaching Assistant and students are encouraged to come to class 15 minutes earlier to
check class attendance before English Teacher go into class.
After 2 months students have a speaking test with foreign teacher. Students have
3 – 5 minutes to discuss the topic and answer the question relating to the lesson which
they have learned already. A speaking test lasts 2 weeks because the number of students
in class is too crowed. The first week is with half of students and the week after is with
the rest of them. Foreign teacher reviews all previous lessons before speaking test one
week. During the test, teachers sometimes guide students to answer when they have
some difficulty in the test.
After every lesson teachers must sign their names to check out. Moreover,
teachers are required to inform to the manager before 3 days or at least 1 day.

3.1. Actual situation of student at Nguyen Van Kip Primary School.
3.1.1. Current situation of students’ learning English at primary school.
3.1.1.1. No chance to practice.
Nowadays, the learning time at school is limited but the number of
subjects is high that leads to students spend time for primary subjects more than
English. The time students learn English at school is too short for them to get
enough knowledge. Besides, students just study theoretical knowledge without
practicing more because of limited time in each lesson.
Meanwhile, English is a subject that requires a combination between
theory and practice. There are not many opportunities to practice because every
lesson is just enough time to impart theory, students have to practice themselves
at home. Consequently, the ability to develop language is limited, which affects
the students’ English language later.
3.1.1.2. Lack of confidence in communication.
Consequences of the lack of practice hours in primary English teaching
program are timorous and lack of confidence in English communication. If the
students are always in lack of confidence situation, afraid of communicate in
English, it will gradually take form thoughts of “fear”, which will affect students’
ability to acquire language.
In addition, students don’t understand the learning process. If they find
they can’t do anything, they tend to load it on themselves. The most common
reason for lack of confidence is the presence of “holes”, language barrier so that
students feel terrible when they have to speak in front of their classmates,
especially English Teacher.

3.1.1.3. Limited ability of reflection English
The number of students is large but the learning time remains unchanged,
so the amount of time for students to communicate and interact between teacher
and student is decreased. Every lesson has an hour and half to study so that
teacher cannot have enough time to communicate with each individual in the
classroom.
3.1.1.4. Level conflict and classroom environment
Actually, most of students have learned English very early but some of
them haven’t learned it. There are some students who work very hard to build
lesson while others work individually or just sit quietly. For example, Le Cong
Vinh in class 4/3 and Tran Quoc Thai in class 3/9, both two students are obedient
students. They are always quieter and more timid than other students in English
classes. When teacher called them to answer, they almost couldn’t answer
anything. After talking to two students and their classmates, the main reason is
that their family economic conditions are not like the others. Due to their family
circumstances, both two students did not learn English at young age. Therefore,
the level conflict between students in the class is unequal because they study
according to the schedule is arranged by school not studying by their level. The
teacher’s responsibility is to teach the common ground in the whole class, so the
case of two students is more disadvantaged than the others.
From the above of situation, it shows that not only language barrier
between teachers and students but also level conflict between student and student
is also a problem which prevent their learning process and improve English.
Moreover, learning English at school makes students are not interested
because they have learned the lesson at home or in the English center already.
Some students take this advantage and don’t pay attention to the teacher or even
bother other students. This case is in almost classes.

3.2. Several solutions to teach English effectively at Nguyen Van Kip
Primary School
3.2.1. Changing teaching method
The textbook used at school and English center is the same. Students get
the knowledge equally. Therefore, a creative way of teaching is a necessary to
attract students. Teacher teaches with traditional method of writing and reading
instead of letting students play act with the topic familiar to the lesson and daily
life to act out (for students in grade 3 and grade 4). Since they are under 10 years
old, the role play of playing someone makes students excited. They can improve
vocabularies and use their own vocabularies to make a sentence to communicate,
which train them in developing thinking creatively as well as practice speak
skills.
For students in grade 1 and grade 2, it means that they are from
kindergarten to elementary school and from playing to studying. They are at the
age of playing more than studying so that they are not used to seeing many words
on the board and of course they cannot play the characters like students in grade 3
and 4. The method of teaching them is that using flashcard and giving a song into
the lesson. The using flashcard can be used for games to review vocabularies or
to introduce keywords as well as pronunciation. In addition, teacher doesn’t need
to create flashcards all the time, they can let students create and contribute their
own it. Students at this age normally focus on for about 30 minutes so taking this
opportunity to create activities for them such as letting them draw on the topic
about the lesson and combine the teachers’ teaching skill, which will increase the
students’ learning spirit.
For example:
3.2.1.1. Using flashcard
Teacher teaches topic animals, they show their flashcard.
Teacher asks: “What is this?”
Student answers: “It’s a cat.”

By this way students just look at the picture and learn by heart.
In other way teacher can lead to the topic by asking: “What is your
favorite animal?” and calling students answer their favorite animals. Then, let
each student draw their animals and give them the new words of the animals.
This is an advantage to stimulate their thinking because most of students like to
draw and color, which will help them to create their own version of vocabulary
and they won’t get bored when learning English. Moreover, this also helps
students pay attention to the lesson and don’t make noise in class.
3.2.1.2. Combining song and action
Nowadays, with the developing of modern technology, we can do
everything on the Internet so that the use of English songs to teach and learn is
not difficult. Besides, teacher can teach vocabulary through English songs by
letting students listen and act according to the song and teacher that is an
effective teaching method. Primary school students are usually active, so they
enjoy moving their bodies as well as using body language to express emotion. In
addition, the melody of the song stimulates the students’ spirit because when they
dance with the tune and teacher that will motivate their brain making them
remember more deeply. The songs will often make the classroom atmosphere
more fun and interesting. Furthermore, students are practiced listening skills by
English songs.
In conclusion, in my opinion to get the best method of teaching primary
English, teacher needs to be carefully attached special importance to the content.
The teaching style needs to be changed regularly to suit for psychological
characteristic of students. At this age, the student’s ability to memorize the words
is not good, instead, the ability to sense sounds, remember visual images is
extremely developed. When learning English by these ways, students will feel
comfortable and feel like they are still playing, which will help them remember
and absorb new knowledge better. In large classroom, teacher should also
develop assignments, teamwork games, or in pairs. That is not only helps them
more interested in learning but also helps them get used to working in a team

from an early age. In addition, it helps students develop the ability to
communicate in English naturally in front of a crowd by telling stories.
3.2.2. Changing classroom environment
3.2.2.1. Not putting pressure on students
One of the most important requirements in teaching English for students is
that not putting pressure on children.
The ability to concentrate, memorize as well as cognitive ability of primary
school students are relatively limited. Not only that the main activities in the early
years of elementary school have just shifted from playing to studying.
Therefore, if the teacher sees your student doesn’t pay attention to the
lesson, the teacher should not be uncomfortable or scolded with harsh words
because this is inevitable process that student needs to develop comprehensive
physiological psychology.
3.2.2.2. Creating a comfortable learning atmosphere
Most primary school students do not like being forced to sit neatly to study.
Therefore, a primary English classes lasts 1.30, teacher can spend 10 to 15 minutes
for students to learn through other forms.
For example, at the beginning let students participate in interesting English
games, not only helps the classroom atmosphere become more exciting but also
helps student review the knowledge that they learned in the lesson before.
In such an exciting and happy environment, students will feel happy and
receive new knowledge in a better way.

CONCLUSION
Overall, internship is a really good program. It helps to enhance and develop my
skills, abilities and knowledge. It was a good experience and memories as not only have
I gained experience, but also I have some new friends and knowledge. Bbrothers is also
a good place to do the internship since it provides numerous benefits and advantages to
the practical trainees.
During my internship period, I have learned a lot of useful things about teaching
English. I draw some experience about operating the class management. In the English
class, I observed the class and pay attention to the special students. I have to prepare
teaching aids and material, evaluate students after class. Furthermore, I solve the
problem about examination for students and I learned and explored the teaching method
of English Teacher.
From the internship period, I get some practical knowledge, experience and soft
skills to apply for my future job. It is the time for me to practice and acquire classroom
skills as well as experience handling situations. After the internship, I learned practical
things in teaching.
Besides, in order to effectively manage students and apply innovative teaching
methods, Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited needs to promote its
strengths and overcome problems that still exist. Thereby, the company will have
efficiency in managing and teaching students.
I hope that through this report, it will contribute a little part in suggesting a lot of
teaching methods at Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited. Due to the
limited theoretical and practical understanding, the report cannot avoid some mistakes. I
wish you all teachers comment so that my report is more complete.

  • 10. viii INTRODUCTION Nowadays, English is a second language and plays an important role in our life. It can help us not only communicate with foreigners but also have the opportunity to work with potential overseas companies. With today’s modern life, English is currently being taught in almost schools with all of ages. As a young generation of the country, we always want to develop country and expand relationship with neighboring countries. This is the responsibility of each of us. To do this, each of us needs to equip useful knowledge as well as necessary skills. This responsibility is not only for student but also for teacher and leader. Specifically, teaching department in general and teaching method in particular play a very important role in the development of human knowledge. Therefore, I have chosen English as my path to my success. Moreover, English is one of the essential and important things in my teaching career. Providing adequate knowledge, ensuring teaching skills are the basic requirements to be a good teacher. After a short internship in Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited, with dedicated guidance in the teaching department and the knowledge which I have learned at school, I am aware of the role and the importance of teaching student. From analyzing innovation teaching, combined with innovative teaching methods to help the company prosper. Thereby, improve the teaching work as well as ensure the role of language teaching for student. Therefore, I decide to choose the topic: “A Report On English Teaching Methods For Primary School Student” for my internship report. The process of formation and development of Bbrothers Company Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited, was located on Cong Hoa Street. Ms. Nguyen Song Bich Khuyen was the first people to lay the foundation for Bbrothers Company on 11/07/2017. Bbrothers is a young and potential company. They set up the educational system, teaching programs and recruited staff. The company offers English programs with native English teacher at many primary schools and secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City. There were about 10 employees working in the company in the first year. During the past few years, Bbrothers constantly developing and taking the effort to expand itself. There are more than 20 staff including English Teacher and Teaching Assistants so far. In addition, there are around 6 administration and support staff others department. Although it has only been for 3 years, Bbrothers Company is developing at good rate. CEO (Chief Executive Officer): Representative of company CEO is the representative of the company. The CEO is responsible for making plan as well as realizing specific directions of the company’s vision and mission. Besides, they organize the structure, establish an efficient management, propose task and goal of each specific department. They are directly responsible for profit, law, employees. They ensure that the company is able to achieve its short and long goal. 1.4.2. Human Resources Manager (HRM) Human Resources Manager takes a very important role for every business. Its task is to ensure that the most valuable resource for each organization. This department directly manages recruitment and selection, training employees. They organize internal training program.   • 14. 3 1.4.3. Financial Accounting Department This department is responsible for assisting the Director in statistics on the company’s financial – related activities. Besides, the department also settles contracts with some school partners, pays salaries for employees and pays debt collection. In addition, this department has the right to recommend rewarding: increasing salaries, ranks and other benefits for individuals. 1.4.4. Customer Relationship Department The function of this department is resolve customer’s complaint quickly and efficiently. Moreover, the department also finds out customer’s need and proposes the solutions. 1.4.5. Teaching Department This department is very important in company. It makes a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching in the school. They have a direct impact and influence on the achievements of school goals. This department is divided into two roles:  English Teachers (Foreign Teacher): The teacher’s main responsibility is to teach student in class. Specific works are making teaching plan, creating test for students. Furthermore, the teacher is responsible for maintaining discipline in the classroom and evaluating student’s progress through exam, homework, grades, etc…  Teaching Assistant (Vietnamese Teacher): Their responsibility is to assist foreign teacher. The T.A explains to students anything which they don’t understand. The Assistant also helps with classroom management such as class attendance, class stability, etc… and helps foreign teacher in teaching preparation (get equipment and material). Additionally, they do other tasks which have been given by the teacher or the manager.

The school was newly built on September 5, 2005, the opening day of the first school year with the function of teaching elementary students.  Material facilities: Nguyen Van Kip Primary School has a total area of 3547 square meters, with a school yard covers of 1561 square meters. The school is firmly built 1 ground floor, 2 floors. There are 28 classrooms, 1 computer room and 8 functional rooms.

  • 17. 6 2.2. The teaching procedure at Nguyen Van Kip Primary School 2.2.1. Beginning class 2.2.1.1. Entering the class room Teacher meets students at the door on the first day of school and every lesson then. After that telling them how happy they are to teach them. Then, teacher tells them the procedure when they enter the classroom. Teacher rehearses entering the classroom the first week of school unit and it becomes a routine for students. Ask students who enter the room inappropriately to return the doorway and return appropriately 2.2.1.2. Starting the lesson Teacher makes some basic question for students to answer, which can give students a chance to practice their speaking skill What’s the date to day? What’s the weather today? What are you wearing today? How are you today? 2.2.2.During lesson During the lesson, the teacher uses English and translates it into Vietnamese with the difficult part for student easy to get it.  New words and grammar: These are the important part of teaching procedure. Teacher lets student work in pairs or group of four to read a story in textbook and find out some new words which they don’t know. Besides, students improve their reading skill through learning new words. Moreover, teacher gives a lot of synonyms or antonyms words or the words are not in the lesson. After that, teacher reads out loud and asks students to read it by using basic phrases:
  • 18. 7 Repeat, please! Listen and repeat, please! Repeat after me, please! Again, please! During this stage, teacher communicates shortly to help students learn more the knowledge. Especially, it can make students practice speaking a short sentence by answering some question related to the grammar in the lesson. Then, the teacher lets students practice many times, corrects the mistakes about pronunciation and grammar. The teacher also gives some compliments on students who did well. For example: Very good! Good job! Well done! That’s right!  Getting student attention: teacher uses a simple 5-finger countdown. By the time, when they are at zero, all students have all eyes and ears on them. 2.2.3. Ending class Teacher reviews the lesson, create some activities related to some knowledge which students have learnt already to check students’ level of understanding. Then, assign and remind students to do homework at home. After finishing every lesson, teacher always say that: Goodbye class, see you later! Our lesson stops here! Don’t forget to do the homework class!

  • 20. 9 This is the main English textbook using at school. Students have to use it in English classes. Each student has 2 books – student book and workbook. During the lesson, students use mainly Student book, the workbook is used for homework. After one week, the teacher will check the Workbook. If students do the homework well, they will receive bonus point such as a sticker or a learning tool. Furthermore, “Family and Friends” helps students develop English skills with variety of methods that are suitable for elementary students. The material focuses on listening – speaking skill through vocabulary in practical situations. In addition, it’s easy for students to remember the songs and read text in the book, the exercises after each section help them improve reading – writing skill. With the Family and Friends Special Edition book series creates familiarity making students enjoy participating in developing 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing when teacher organizes activities. 2.4.   • 22. 11 A teaching day at Nguyen Van Kip School is divided into two shifts: morning shift and afternoon shift. The lesson starts at 7:30 and finishes at 11:20 in the morning; starts at 13:00 and finishes at 16:30 in the afternoon. Each lesson lasts an hour and half. Teaching Assistant and students are encouraged to come to class 15 minutes earlier to check class attendance before English Teacher go into class. After 2 months students have a speaking test with foreign teacher. Students have 3 – 5 minutes to discuss the topic and answer the question relating to the lesson which they have learned already. A speaking test lasts 2 weeks because the number of students in class is too crowed. The first week is with half of students and the week after is with the rest of them. Foreign teacher reviews all previous lessons before speaking test one week. During the test, teachers sometimes guide students to answer when they have some difficulty in the test. After every lesson teachers must sign their names to check out. Moreover, teachers are required to inform to the manager before 3 days or at least 1 day.
  • 23. 12 CHAPTER 3: CURRENT SITUATION AND SOLUTION TO TEACH ENGLISH EFFECTIVELY 3.1. Actual situation of student at Nguyen Van Kip Primary School. 3.1.1. Current situation of students’ learning English at primary school. 3.1.1.1. No chance to practice. Nowadays, the learning time at school is limited but the number of subjects is high that leads to students spend time for primary subjects more than English. The time students learn English at school is too short for them to get enough knowledge. Besides, students just study theoretical knowledge without practicing more because of limited time in each lesson. Meanwhile, English is a subject that requires a combination between theory and practice. There are not many opportunities to practice because every lesson is just enough time to impart theory, students have to practice themselves at home. Consequently, the ability to develop language is limited, which affects the students’ English language later. 3.1.1.2. Lack of confidence in communication. Consequences of the lack of practice hours in primary English teaching program are timorous and lack of confidence in English communication. If the students are always in lack of confidence situation, afraid of communicate in English, it will gradually take form thoughts of “fear”, which will affect students’ ability to acquire language. In addition, students don’t understand the learning process. If they find they can’t do anything, they tend to load it on themselves. The most common reason for lack of confidence is the presence of “holes”, language barrier so that students feel terrible when they have to speak in front of their classmates, especially English Teacher.
  • 24. 13 3.1.1.3. Limited ability of reflection English The number of students is large but the learning time remains unchanged, so the amount of time for students to communicate and interact between teacher and student is decreased. Every lesson has an hour and half to study so that teacher cannot have enough time to communicate with each individual in the classroom. 3.1.1.4. Level conflict and classroom environment Actually, most of students have learned English very early but some of them haven’t learned it. There are some students who work very hard to build lesson while others work individually or just sit quietly. For example, Le Cong Vinh in class 4/3 and Tran Quoc Thai in class 3/9, both two students are obedient students. They are always quieter and more timid than other students in English classes. When teacher called them to answer, they almost couldn’t answer anything. After talking to two students and their classmates, the main reason is that their family economic conditions are not like the others. Due to their family circumstances, both two students did not learn English at young age. Therefore, the level conflict between students in the class is unequal because they study according to the schedule is arranged by school not studying by their level. The teacher’s responsibility is to teach the common ground in the whole class, so the case of two students is more disadvantaged than the others. From the above of situation, it shows that not only language barrier between teachers and students but also level conflict between student and student is also a problem which prevent their learning process and improve English. Moreover, learning English at school makes students are not interested because they have learned the lesson at home or in the English center already. Some students take this advantage and don’t pay attention to the teacher or even bother other students. This case is in almost classes.
  • 25. 14 3.2. Several solutions to teach English effectively at Nguyen Van Kip Primary School 3.2.1. Changing teaching method The textbook used at school and English center is the same. Students get the knowledge equally. Therefore, a creative way of teaching is a necessary to attract students. Teacher teaches with traditional method of writing and reading instead of letting students play act with the topic familiar to the lesson and daily life to act out (for students in grade 3 and grade 4). Since they are under 10 years old, the role play of playing someone makes students excited. They can improve vocabularies and use their own vocabularies to make a sentence to communicate, which train them in developing thinking creatively as well as practice speak skills. For students in grade 1 and grade 2, it means that they are from kindergarten to elementary school and from playing to studying. They are at the age of playing more than studying so that they are not used to seeing many words on the board and of course they cannot play the characters like students in grade 3 and 4. The method of teaching them is that using flashcard and giving a song into the lesson. The using flashcard can be used for games to review vocabularies or to introduce keywords as well as pronunciation. In addition, teacher doesn’t need to create flashcards all the time, they can let students create and contribute their own it. Students at this age normally focus on for about 30 minutes so taking this opportunity to create activities for them such as letting them draw on the topic about the lesson and combine the teachers’ teaching skill, which will increase the students’ learning spirit. For example: 3.2.1.1. Using flashcard Teacher teaches topic animals, they show their flashcard. Teacher asks: “What is this?” Student answers: “It’s a cat.”
  • 26. 15 By this way students just look at the picture and learn by heart. In other way teacher can lead to the topic by asking: “What is your favorite animal?” and calling students answer their favorite animals. Then, let each student draw their animals and give them the new words of the animals. This is an advantage to stimulate their thinking because most of students like to draw and color, which will help them to create their own version of vocabulary and they won’t get bored when learning English. Moreover, this also helps students pay attention to the lesson and don’t make noise in class. 3.2.1.2. Combining song and action Nowadays, with the developing of modern technology, we can do everything on the Internet so that the use of English songs to teach and learn is not difficult. Besides, teacher can teach vocabulary through English songs by letting students listen and act according to the song and teacher that is an effective teaching method. Primary school students are usually active, so they enjoy moving their bodies as well as using body language to express emotion. In addition, the melody of the song stimulates the students’ spirit because when they dance with the tune and teacher that will motivate their brain making them remember more deeply. The songs will often make the classroom atmosphere more fun and interesting. Furthermore, students are practiced listening skills by English songs. In conclusion, in my opinion to get the best method of teaching primary English, teacher needs to be carefully attached special importance to the content. The teaching style needs to be changed regularly to suit for psychological characteristic of students. At this age, the student’s ability to memorize the words is not good, instead, the ability to sense sounds, remember visual images is extremely developed. When learning English by these ways, students will feel comfortable and feel like they are still playing, which will help them remember and absorb new knowledge better. In large classroom, teacher should also develop assignments, teamwork games, or in pairs. That is not only helps them more interested in learning but also helps them get used to working in a team
  • 27. 16 from an early age. In addition, it helps students develop the ability to communicate in English naturally in front of a crowd by telling stories. 3.2.2. Changing classroom environment 3.2.2.1. Not putting pressure on students One of the most important requirements in teaching English for students is that not putting pressure on children. The ability to concentrate, memorize as well as cognitive ability of primary school students are relatively limited. Not only that the main activities in the early years of elementary school have just shifted from playing to studying. Therefore, if the teacher sees your student doesn’t pay attention to the lesson, the teacher should not be uncomfortable or scolded with harsh words because this is inevitable process that student needs to develop comprehensive physiological psychology. 3.2.2.2. Creating a comfortable learning atmosphere Most primary school students do not like being forced to sit neatly to study. Therefore, a primary English classes lasts 1.30, teacher can spend 10 to 15 minutes for students to learn through other forms. For example, at the beginning let students participate in interesting English games, not only helps the classroom atmosphere become more exciting but also helps student review the knowledge that they learned in the lesson before. In such an exciting and happy environment, students will feel happy and receive new knowledge in a better way.
  • 28. 17 CONCLUSION Overall, internship is a really good program. It helps to enhance and develop my skills, abilities and knowledge. It was a good experience and memories as not only have I gained experience, but also I have some new friends and knowledge. Bbrothers is also a good place to do the internship since it provides numerous benefits and advantages to the practical trainees. During my internship period, I have learned a lot of useful things about teaching English. I draw some experience about operating the class management. In the English class, I observed the class and pay attention to the special students. I have to prepare teaching aids and material, evaluate students after class. Furthermore, I solve the problem about examination for students and I learned and explored the teaching method of English Teacher. From the internship period, I get some practical knowledge, experience and soft skills to apply for my future job. It is the time for me to practice and acquire classroom skills as well as experience handling situations. After the internship, I learned practical things in teaching. Besides, in order to effectively manage students and apply innovative teaching methods, Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited needs to promote its strengths and overcome problems that still exist. Thereby, the company will have efficiency in managing and teaching students. I hope that through this report, it will contribute a little part in suggesting a lot of teaching methods at Bbrothers Consulting and Education Company Limited.
