Assignment Aim:
This unit aims to develop understanding of multi-camera television formats, and to develop skills in multicamera
production techniques. Learners will also gain an appreciation of how the multi-camera process integrates with
other production skills and gain valuable experience of studio management, multi-camera directing and studio floor
techniques
Scenario
Haydon school are presenting a ‘Haydon School Production’. You will plan the filming, with a variety of roles, set up
the studio, film and edit the footage.
Tasks Criteria
Task 1: Understanding Multi-Camera Formats
a.Analyse a series of multi-camera productions. You should include live events and studio productions.
This should be detailed and include floor plans to illustrate the type of production.
b.Identify why multi- camera productions are used. What are the advantages and disadvantages? You
should think about coverage of action; communicating meaning to the viewer; visual style; maintaining
viewer interest; constraints of studio or location environment; multi-camera simultaneous recording

Task 2: Plan a multi-camera production
a.Write a proposal identifying what you will do, who the audience are and what type of event you will
be covering.
b.Identify what roles there are in multi-cam operations. E.g. camera operation; sound mixing; vision
mixing; directing; lighting desk; floor management; graphics generation
c.Plan your multi-cam production. Range of equipment required; allocation of job roles; design, eg
lighting, set, sound; location recce; timing and sequencing; health and safety considerations

You will be observed performing the different operational roles in your multi-cam production. You must
carry out the different roles to the best of your ability.
