Saint Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters, is the
official focus for the festival. In the Middle Ages,
carpenters used to hang up planks of wood called
parots in the winter to support their candles when they
were working. At the beginning of spring they burned
them as a way of celebrating the end of dark. After a
while they began to put clothing on the parots.

wooden, plaster and papier maché figures. Every
neighbourhood raise the necessary finances for
constructing the ninots which are burned during the
night called La Cremá (19th March).
