distribution companies like ‘Bandur Film yugoslavia’ Medusa Distribuzione’, ‘Kinowelt Home

20th Century Fox is a major branch of 21st Century fox owned by Richard Murdoc which is a
large scale production and distribution of films. This means that it can easily get hold of the
blockbuster films. All the films above are large scale films which people will have heard
about, ranging from horror films, action films, thriller films and young adult fiction films.
These films are aimed at people over the age of 15 which means they can have graphical
contents in them which is useful when having action and horror films.
20th Century Fox is a large independently owned franchise which is one of the six biggest
film studios and distributors in America. Due to this they only distribute the larger multi
million pound films and not amuter ones meaning they would not distribute my AS media film
project.
If I wanted to get my film opening distributed I would need to use a small scale, low budget
british film distributor like ‘Balcony Films’ which work with smaller independent artists and
filmmakers and distribute the final product for a fraction of the price needed to distribute a
blockbuster film.
On the contrary occasionally smaller production indie films are picked up by major
distribution labels. For example, City of god or better known in its original language ‘Cidade
De Deus’ was a small scale indie production which became so successful that Miramax
picked it up and distributed it into the mainstream cinemas around the world with the correct
languages subtitles.

Due to being a large company, it is able to get hold of large scale blockbuster films, which a
smaller label wouldn’t be able to do. The genera of the films the distributor tends to distribute
are horror, action, adult comedy and fiction which usually range from 12+ age limits.

This research showed me that even if you recreate a film up to the same scratch as a
blockbuster film, you will still need a lot of money and presence in the film world to get the
film distributed by a large scale distributor like 20th century fox and paramount pictures. Both
of the trailers from these films start using the advertising of the producing companies and the
distribution companies, I will include a similar opening to my trailer with my own production
and distribution logos.
