Completely overhaul the “Introduction to GIS and GPS” course within
the OCET course catalog, creating an additional course and doubling the
contact hours from 24 - 48 hours of classroom instruction. Design the
curriculum and content to be comparable to Maui College’s GIS 150 in
order to give participants the opportunity of taking the GIS 150 PLA, gain
entrance to GIS 180 and earn Maui’s 8 unit Certificate of Competence in
GIS. Conduct a week long summer course in introductory GIS and GPS
technology for Middle school students.

Work with GIS Educational Specialist, Sarah McLane (Maui College) in
crafting, designing recruiting and teaching Introductory to GIS (GIS 150)
and GIS for Ecosystem Management (GIS 180) at Kaua`i Community
College. Lead field trips to give students exposure and experience.
Encourage the successful completion of the 8 unit Certificate of
Competence by all students enrolling in the course. Review and edit the
entire GIS curriculum to be posted to the Creative Commons website.
Serve as the GIS coordinator and liaison on the KCC campus and in the
community. Work with KCC faculty to articulate the Maui College’s GIS
curriculum within the KCC academic program. Partner with on-island
industry to identify GIS skills needed within the workforce.
