Pekka Bergström is a Senior Geomechanics Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in hard rock
mining industry (open pit & underground) including over 10 year’ experience working in deep high
stress mines in Finland and in Australia. He holds Graduate Certificate Engineering in Mine Design
and Planning as well as MSc in geology and Mineralogy and diploma in mining and quarrying.
After first working as Mine Geologist at the Tara Mines in Ireland, he held several different positions
as a Mine geologist, Mining Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer in Australia. He worked as a
Geotechnical Engineer in several deep high stress mines in Broken Hill, NSW and Kalgoorlie, W A.
During the most recent 3 years, Pekka has worked as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at the
Pyhäsalmi Mine, Finland. Pekka Bergström worked for SRK Consulting in 2015 – 2016 s Senior
Consultant (Rock Mechanics) and Kevitsa Mining Oy 2016 as Senior Drill, Blast and Geotechnical
Engineer in May 2016.

 Undertakes study/analysis of the Drilling and Blasting cost in relation to its downstream
benefit/effect on the whole mining value chain and take appropriate action to achieve/maintain
optimum outcome.
 Undertakes benchmarking with sister site in term of Drilling and Blast performance management
process.
 Provide coaching to junior colleague.
 Investigate and introduce innovation/technology new product to improve Drilling and Blasting
performance. In liaison with the Chief Geologist ensure that geological information pertinent to
the geotechnical aspects of slope stability are collected through mapping and faces inspection,
analysed, interpreted and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
 Develop and maintain geotechnical database based on the geotechnical setting and the mining
environment at Kevitsa open pit.
 Undertake stability evaluation and analysis as required with specific attention on the compliance
to the specified design parameters across the pit and occurrences of weak zones and geological
structures affecting slope stability.
 Develop and implement process and/or procedure to manage alteration to final pit limit.
