2. What is “Crowdfunding”?
Crowdfunding is the practice of raising money through contributions
from many individuals, instead of just a few
Crowdfunding allows accredited individuals to invest in a project in
exchange for equity — a fundraising technique legalized by the passing
of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act in 2012
In amendment of the Securities and Exchange acts, the JOBS Act
allows for citizens around the country—and around the world—to
invest in businesses and products over the internet, as long as the
goods and services are offered in accordance with regulations set by
the SEC
Regulations for equity crowdfunding platforms include:
Transparency in company offerings, elimination of “bad actors,” and—the industry’s
current hot-topic—limiting investment opportunities to accredited investors

3. What’s an “Accredited Investor”?
Title II of the JOBS Act specifies that only accredited investors can
invest in generally solicited projects and companies
To be legally recognized as accredited, an investor must meet one of
the following criteria:
Makes $200,000 a year as an individual
Makes $300,000 a year as a household
Has a net worth of $1 million, excluding their primary residence
An estimated 8.6 million households meet SEC accreditation standards
That number is expected to grow in 2015 following the final rulings
on Title III of the JOBS Act
These changes are expected to legalize investments made by
currently non-accredited investors

4. Opportunity in Real Estate
Crowdfunding
Presently, 3.7 million investors have at least $100,000 in securities and over 8
million people are qualified to invest under Title II; when the details of Title
III are finalized, roughly 230 million new individuals will be eligible to invest
Industry experts believe Title III will be clarified by the SEC Fall 2015
According to Forbes, the entrance of just 25,000 new investors to the
market will result in a $300 million dollar bump in invested funds
It is further expected that amendments made to Title III of the JOBS Act will
transform the U.S real estate investing industry into a $300 billion market
However, until the SEC finalizes the details of Title III, PeerRealty will
exclusively cater to the nation’s <8 million accredited investors, providing the
highest-quality deals to the Midwest and beyond!
