3. PHOTOSYNTHESIS
• Biological conversion of solar energy into sugars
and starches which are energy rich compounds.
• Radiant energy of sun is absorbed by the green
pigment chlorophyll.

• Water and CO2 molecules broken down and a
carbohydrate is formed with the release of pure
oxygen.

• Light Reaction:- Splitting of H2O molecule into
H2 and O2 under the influence of chlorophyll and
sunlight.
• Dark Reaction:- H2 is transferred to CO2 to form
starch or sugar.

8. CONDITIONS FOR PHOTOSYNTHESIS
• Light:- Visible light (400 – 700 A°) is required
to produced photosynthesis. This range of light
is called photo-synthetically active radiation
(PAR).
• CO2 concentration
• Temperature:- Ranges from 0°C to 60°C.
