HBC Elections 2019
1. Havant Borough Council
Elections 2nd May 2019
Information about the candidates and
parties for the forthcoming Havant
Borough Council elections for Hayling
Island East and West Wards
4. Green Party
I am representing the Green Party as a paper candidate to ensure Hayling East voters
can vote Green if they wish.
I have been an Islander for most of my life and I love the community spirit and
beautiful natural environment Hayling has to offer. I am passionate about ethical and
sustainable living and would like to encourage and support more initiatives locally.
I am a primary teacher but also work as a volunteer for the marine conservation
charity, Surfers Against Sewage. I am actively involved in protecting Hayling’s beaches
from plastic pollution and helping businesses, organisations and individuals to reduce
their single-use plastic.

7. Liberal Democrat Party
Hayling Island deserves and demands better!
Both your Liberal Democrat Candidates, Paul Gray for Hayling West and Wilf
Forrow for Hayling East are islanders who have lived, worked and been active
members of the community for over 40 years. They both campaign for Britain to
“Remain and Reform the EU” through the European Movement.
The Liberal Democrat pledge for Hayling Island is: New resources before new
residents.
The plan to build thousands of new homes MUST be stopped and there MUST be a
plan to improve local services and infrastructure - your island is doomed under
current Tory plans for expansion.

8. The Conservatives’ Havant Local Plan is a plan we believe that will gridlock
Hayling, and make developers rich and islanders poorer.
Without any local political opposition, the Conservatives have rammed through
a plan which woefully underestimates windfall developments by 5 to 10 times,
and will force us to take thousands more homes - most of which islanders will
never be able to afford.
The Conservatives have no plan to fix the traffic, or the flood risk, and they’re
ignoring local views. Your local Liberal Democrat candidates are committed to
vote against expansion before there is investment in services and
infrastructure.
On May 2nd you can make a positive difference by voting out the Tory monopoly
that is strangling Hayling Island, whether you think the Tories are suffocating
our island, or our NHS, or mis-handling Brexit, or are just taking you for
granted.
Paul and Wilf have consistently campaigned against the Tory cuts to
services – last year Paul and Wilf started a petition against reducing
the number of Police on Hayling. This was signed by thousands of people and
delivered to Alan Mak MP – who promptly chose to ignore the campaign.
Paul and Wilf believe that Hayling is a very special place and that its biggest
natural resource (our beautiful beaches) need more protection and better
management. They campaign for strict environmental planning and support
9. Paul and Wilf believe the recent decision to ban overnight parking for camper
vans on Hayling’s beaches is frankly ridiculous. Hayling truly shines when our
visitors feel welcome and then spend their money in local shops and businesses.
Rather than turn away tourists, Paul and Wilf would like to see investment paid
through sensible parking rules so that Hayling can thrive as a “must go” holiday
destination for people who love watersports and beautiful, clean beaches.
Paul is Chair of the Hayling Ferry Trust and is committed to keeping The Ferry as
a viable transport link. Wilf is an active member of Cycle Hayling, Cycling UK
and Sustrans, and campaigns through the council and his Hayling Islander column
for better cycling, for health, pleasure, and to reduce traffic, noise and air
pollution.
Since the Tory led council decided to outsource services to Norse, Paul and Wilf
believe they are not meeting Islander’s very reasonable expectations. Your
footpaths are overgrown, your bins are overflowing and nobody is listening. The
contract with Norse must be reviewed – Norse is putting profit before people,
with 50% of the profit going to the people of Norfolk rather than the people of
Hayling.
As councillors Paul and Wilf would be committed to open government – in
particular being 100% open about how your Council Tax is spent.
Havant and Hayling Island deserve better and your Liberal Democrat
