2. “The Hills Clinic is a beautiful new mental health clinic. It
has 59 beds, regarded as probably one of the top mental
health hospitals in Sydney. A quality beachhead mental
health asset to our company.”
“Most hospitals are designed as hospitals and
look like hospitals. They are usually designed by
hospital specialist architects and the emphasis is on
functionality and compliance. They don’t stand out
or provide a point of difference unlike Pace Architects
who have provided a hospital which is of high quality
in terms of construction, fit-out, space and design.”

4. “When you go there and you see the design,
the use of modern construction and the use
of gardens, the return of gardening and the
use of plants in the treatment of mental illness
is quite well documented, you really get a
sense from this building and this place that
this purpose-built facility is going to achieve
its purpose. Buildings have purpose. They
have form. They have a reason for being
designed the way they are. That is no different
with a mental health facility. So of course,
if we have guidelines in this country today
that restrict or impede the development of
such facilities, we ought to look at them.”
Alex Hawke MP.

The implementation of BIM technology is

the build process, the resource allocation,
the productivity requirements to meet targets

facilities and asset management.
Recent industry reports show that BIM
technology has:

lifetime of the building

re-work during construction
»» 44% - 59% increase in the overall
project quality

has improved the accuracy and speed in
documentation, whilst also created an
integrated cross co-ordination efficiency
between consultant disciplines. It enables
quick 3D output visualization and construction
efficiency during procurement all of which
is added value to our client return on
investments.
Technological knowledge paired with smart
design and harnessed project management
rigor, has enabled Pace Architects have been
able to substantially reduce construction cost
for our clients. Evidence shows up to 50%
in most cases when comparing our projects
to similar sized healthcare projects. The Hills
Clinic hospital is an example of this.

concept stage and successfully negotiated
the development approval process. At all
stages the team has provided creative yet

7. “The Australian population continues to grow at a speed that puts the
healthcare system at risk of running short of healthcare facilities to
accommodate all the people who need them. The healthcare system
is responding through a number of solutions, such as telehealth, new
technology, and home care. However the reality is, Australia will need to
build more health facilities across all states in the coming months and years.”

Builder: FDC
Type: Healthcare + Mental Health Hospitals
Completed: 2011
Value: $7 million

The Hills Clinic Kellyville, is the first purpose built private psychiatric
hospital in NSW. It has set a new benchmark in Mental Health facilities.
Kellyville has traditionally been a semi-rural area with many market
gardens, but is now one of Sydney’s largest growth areas. Pace
Architects was involved in the early stages of this development and
also provided services pre land acquisition, to ensure the clients the
land purchase would suit their fit to purpose facility.
In developing the concept for this facility, Pace Architects retained a
connection with the rural heritage of the area, allowing a large portion
of the two acres of land to be landscaped and left as open space
for the amenity of patients. Every room in the building connects to
the natural surrounds. The North facing aspect and large areas of
glazing allows vast amounts of natural light that creates a pleasant
indoor environment for patients and staff.
The Hills Clinic Stage 1 project was awarded Best Commercial /
Public Development in 2011 in The Hills Building and Design Awards –
Awarded by The Hills Shire, one of the largest Shires currently in NSW.

9. Toowoomba Private Health Hospital
Acute Mental Health Hospital, Consult Rooms and Medical Centre
Location: Toowoomba, QLD
Client: Heal All Pty Ltd
Builder: TBA
Type: Healthcare + Mental Health Hospitals
Completed: 2016-2017
Value: $8 million
Following an inspection of The Hills Clinic hospital, and some
discussions on the project delivery, Heal All quickly chose Pace
Architects as the Architects and Project Managers for the new Private

The design is for a 30 bed hospital with a staged approach over 3
levels. The facility will also cater for outpatient treatment including a

ECT treatment rooms and recovery rooms.
Our client was looking for a contemporary design with a non-
institutionalised ambience, together with an economical design for
a site which had already been purchased in the heart of the CBD
precinct in Toowoomba, known as the “garden city”. Our design
incorporates themes of removing the barriers between internal and
outdoor spaces and enhancing areas with natural lighting, fresh air
and landscaping.

and QLD Health submissions are currently being submitted with
the intent to commence specifications and tender documents in
the coming months.
