MODULE 2 – ROLES, SELF-DEVELOPMENT, AND COLLABORATION.
LECTURE 2 (November 2020; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 1/Module 1, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
ROLES: DJ/Broadcaster/Host, Co-Host, Production Manager, Station Manager, and the Guest. Make sure that you clearly
understand the roles of each of these players. Each of them must engage with their roles, responsibilities and be accountable.
SELF-DEVELOPMENT: How do you develop yourself into efficient and effective DJ/Broadcaster? This is the role that requires your
intellect. Our radio station expects the DJs and Broadcasters to engage on lifelong learning and qualify themselves, not only
academically but also through practice. As a host of shows you must keep up with trends in specific topics and in general. Reading
is the one sure way of addressing this demand. Otherwise you will fall short in some of the conversations you will be facilitating.
COLLABORATION WITH PRODUCTION TEAM: All the shows raise and fall on the collaboration between the hosts and the
production team. Joint planning between the two teams even few minutes before the show could save a disaster from happening.

MODULE 3 – CONDUCT 1 – 5. LECTURE 3 (December 2020;18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 2/Module 2, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 1 - SELF INTRODUCTION: Introduce yourself to the guests and the listeners. Plan your personal introduction. Don’t
feel restricted but do not steal the thunder. Share your credentials that are appropriate for your show. Make sure you refer the
listeners to your professional social media accounts for them to know more about you.
CONDUCT 2 - INTRODUCE CO-HOSTS: Introduce your co-hosts to the listeners and the guests. Be respectful and acknowledge
your co-hosts by introducing them to your guests and listeners. If they are comfortable, allow them to say few words about
themselves and refer the listeners to their social media platforms for further insights.
CONDUCT 3 - INTRODUCE GUESTS: Introduce your guests to the listeners. This is the big moment at the beginning of the show.
You win or lose listeners right at this moment. Don’t over sell. Don’t undersell your guest. There may be listeners out there who
know your guest more than you have researched or you know them. After saying few remarks on them, allow them to expand on
your introductory remarks. Always remember to leave enough for your guests to say something about themselves. It is them who
are at the centre of your show. Let them enjoy their moment. That is the value proposition that makes them want to volunteer their
time, insights, knowledge, and experience.
CONDUCT 4 - INTRODUCE THE STATION: Introduce the Radio Station to the listeners and your guests. We, at COMETSA, we
will not forgive you for failing to introduce COMETSA Radio. Here is the text we want you to read slowly, relaxed, loud, and clear.
COMETSA Radio is a business, entrepreneurship, and professional management services, 24/7 internet streaming radio station
broadcasting from South Africa to the entire world.
CONDUCT 5 - CHECK IN: Develop your way of checking into the show. Don’t pounce into it. You may first reflect on your previous
show and its topic, or the other show by a fellow DJ that you participated into or listen to. A comment on the local and global current
affairs may settle down the guests. The key is to get your guests start the show by talking about something unrelated to the topic to

address at the show. Remember they have been preparing for your show couple of days before. Their system is already fatigued
and naturally they are tense because they want to do so well. They are trying too hard in their mind to be perfect.

MODULE 4 – CONDUCT 6 – 8. LECTURE 4 (January 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 3/Module 3, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 6 - FACILITATE: Focus on facilitating the show. Use the LEKGOTLA Methodology to keep yourself in check. You must
aim not only to become a good DJ and Broadcaster. You must also to become a good facilitator of conversations. That will give you
additional opportunities in commerce and industry as a celebrity DJ Broadcaster to facilitate business conversations.
CONDUCT 7 - AFFIRM and MOTIVATE: Affirm and motivate the Guest in the middle of the show as they hit high notes and
mention some profound statements. The role of the host is to help the guests to reach their best level of performance. We want
them to uplift the listeners to the highest level of energy vibration.
CONDUCT 8 - LEAD CONVERSATIONS: Your performance yard stick is how you lead the flow of the Conversation. A good host
and facilitator recognize when the conversation is flowing with a particular idea and allows it to be explored to the end or package it
a way that meets the desires of the listeners. Disruption when the guest is in a flow and the listeners are enjoying the conversation
is hated by the stakeholders.

MODULE 5 – CONDUCT 9 – 12; LECTURE 5 (February 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
5 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER
PARK, ISANDO, GERMISTON, 1601, PO BOX 31429 BRAAMFONTEIN 2017, SOUTH AFRICA, TEL +27 11 974 9308 FAX +27 11 974 5612,
EMAIL: callcentre@cometsa-goc.com WEB SITE: www.cometsa-goc.com
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 4/Module 4, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 9 - FOLLOW UP: Follow up on inputs to verify views. A host who is a good listener will recognize a new or alternative
input offered by the guest and make a follow up with the guest to unpack it more. Moving away from new insightful inputs is
interference with the learning process. Hence following up on new thoughts is one of the great qualities of facilitators and hosts of
the shows.
CONDUCT 10 - CHALLENGE RESPECTFULLY: You are required and expected to challenge any inputs and thoughts that are not
supported by evidence. However, you must challenge the guests respectfully.
CONDUCT 11 - DEBATES vs ARGUMENTS: Allow debates but do not enter destructive arguments. It is healthy to debate but
debates must lead to resolving issues. The LEKGOTLA Conversation Methodology is appropriate for facilitating debates and
resolving arguments. We will continue holding LEKGOTLA sessions to build capacity among our DJs and Broadcasters.
CONDUCT 12 - LISTENING: As a facilitator, host speak less a listen more. Expand on the thoughts and inputs from the guests
rather than being the one introducing new thoughts. Don’t talk too much and overshadow your guests and co-hosts

MODULE 6 – CONDUCT 13 – 16; LECTURE 6 (March 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 5/Module 5, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 13 - NO EATING: Avoid eating during the show. The listeners will pick it up that you are eating. Only drinking is allowed
but keep liquids far from the equipment.
CONDUCT 14 - FOCUS: Just pretend you are entering physical studio, and do not allow anyone around you to obstruct your
attention. If you allow that you will lose your trail of thought. That can be embarrassing for you, and you will lose the respect of the
listeners.
CONDUCT 15 - MOBILE PHONE: Put your mobile on silent, not vibrate. The listeners will hear your mobile phone when it vibrates.
Don’t try to check your incoming text messages and notifications during the show. You may pick up disturbing notifications that will
throw you out of balance.
CONDUCT 16 - AUTHENTICITY: Try to be authentic and original as a host or co-host. Do not choreograph the show. Let the show
take its natural flow. Yours is to set the framework and parameters within which your show will be allowed to fluctuate. Allow the
highs and lows during the show. Let the listeners feels the emotions as generated by the participants in the show.

MODULE 7 – CONDUCT 17 – 20; LECTURE 7 (April 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
7 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER
PARK, ISANDO, GERMISTON, 1601, PO BOX 31429 BRAAMFONTEIN 2017, SOUTH AFRICA, TEL +27 11 974 9308 FAX +27 11 974 5612,
EMAIL: callcentre@cometsa-goc.com WEB SITE: www.cometsa-goc.com
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 6/Module 6, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 17 - PROJECTION: Remember that you are the eyes and ears of the listeners. Let them experience the show a if they
are in the studio with you. If you must express dismay, anxiety, do so on behalf of the listeners. That is, project the show to the
listeners. If you talk too much and not be observant, you will not be able to represent the emotions of the listeners. That is what
facilitating is all about, i.e. listen, observe, notice, relay the experience to the listeners, and bring back the experience to the
participants in the show. It is like role playing a movie.
CONDUCT 18 - RESPECT: Do not interrupt when one of the guests is still talking. If you find out that you have interrupted
someone, apologize before occupying that unfairly gained space. Refer to our LEKGOTLA Conversation Methodology. Once you
are known as a host who respect guests you will be sought after. Don’t forget that our radio has a global reach. Who knows, your
talent might be identified by other reputable global broadcasters. This might be a launching pad of a career in internet broadcasting
and podcasting.
CONDUCT 19 - PROMOTION: Think through how you are going to promote your show among your own networks. The radio
system is automatically going to generate listenership statistics for your show. You will be able to observe the growth or decline in
your listenership. We can tell how many people listened to your show from which countries in the world, and how long they stayed
on your show. Think about how you are going to augment the efforts of COMETSA Office in promoting and marketing your show.
Think of Digital Marketing, using your own social media platforms.
CONDUCT 20 - MAKE YOUR SHOW GO VIRAL: Each show will be converted into a Podcast at COMETSA Radio Podcast with
you, the DJ/Broadcaster, as an Author of your episode. The podcast gets published at iTunes (Apple Podcasts), Google Podcasts,
Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn, Stitcher, etc. Our platform, Podcast.Co, will produce daily download statistics of your podcast and report
on which of our podcasts are leading on downloads. You will receive the link of your podcast and you can aggressively distribute it
on your own social media platforms for it to go further viral. That is what digital marketing is all about. You are welcome to request
statistics on your podcast at any point in time we will be able to give it to you.

MODULE 8 – CONDUCT 21 – 23; LECTURE 8 (May 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
8 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER
PARK, ISANDO, GERMISTON, 1601, PO BOX 31429 BRAAMFONTEIN 2017, SOUTH AFRICA, TEL +27 11 974 9308 FAX +27 11 974 5612,

OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 7/Module 7, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 21 - SOURCING GUESTS: Apply your mind on how you are going to go about identifying and inviting guests. What is
your show’s value proposition to the guest you are targeting, i.e. what is it for them? In most cases people want to know that your
show and the radio station attracts big and broader interest, it will give them unique experience, exposure, popularity, a copy of the
podcast, mention in the public notifications, etc. You are welcome to explore the membership of COMETSA Friends & Supporters
Club NPO for subject matter experts from whom to identify potential guests. Think about how you are going to source guests for
your monthly shows. Identify the source of the guests. Build a database of potential guests. Contact them and give them heads up.
Make sure that you know their email address, mobile numbers, landline numbers, and follow them on social media like LinkedIn
CONDUCT 22 - GUEST CRITERIA: Develop your own criteria you are going to use to accept or reject guests. Be transparent so
that you cannot be blamed for applying favouritism. COMETSA does not support any practice of favouritism, nepotism, corruption,
tribalism, racism, sexism, etc. We expect everybody that qualifies to be given the opportunity. Work out the criteria you will be using
to identify, select and invite the guests. Go beyond technical qualifications. Look at their personality, experience, reputation, energy
levels, ability to express themselves, confidence level, communication skills, interest levels, willingness to volunteer their
knowledge, passion for the topic you are addressing, willingness to share their sources, etc.
CONDUCT 23 - SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS: We encourage you to put priority on Subject Matter Expertise when inviting
guests. Over and above the guest criteria we will require the profiles of the guests and two referees to approve the guests.

MODULE 9 – CONDUCT 24 – 26; LECTURE 9 (June 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
9 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER

EMAIL: callcentre@cometsa-goc.com WEB SITE: www.cometsa-goc.com
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 8/Module 8, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 24 - REPUTATION: We recommend the guests whose reputation is without questions. Do your own desk research on
every potential guest that is recommended to you, especially if you do not them personally.
CONDUCT 25 – NETWORKING AS A RESOURCE: You must not only get in touch with people and build relationship when you
need them to be your guests. Start seriously practicing professional networking and building of relationships with such personality
who would be interested in your show and becoming your guests. It is easy to invite people that you have built relationship with
them. Good talk show hosts are great networkers. They do this naturally. They know the movers in their sectors on first names. Aim
to develop yourself into a top-level networker. Nurture your relationships. Be intentional about building your database.
CONDUCT 26 - AFTER CARE: You should contact your guests two days after the show to thank them for their time, contribution,
share the podcast link of the show with them, encourage them to consider becoming a regular guest at your show and other shows
at COMETSA Radio. Be humble and appreciate your guests from immediately (1 to 2 days) after the show. Send them a thank you
note personally. If you believe that they may contribute to other DJs/Broadcasters shows refer the guest to them, preferably via the
production team at COMETSA office. We also want our guests to consider membership with COMETSA Friends & Supporters Club
NPO. Refer them to the online membership application at www.CometsaClub.Africa (and follow the steps under MEMBERSHIP) or
direct them to our portal, www.CometsaFriendsAndSupportersClub.WildApricot.Org , and go to JOIN US. Everything happens
online.

MODULE 10 – CONDUCT 27 – 28; LECTURE 10 (July 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
10 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER
PARK, ISANDO, GERMISTON, 1601, PO BOX 31429 BRAAMFONTEIN 2017, SOUTH AFRICA, TEL +27 11 974 9308 FAX +27 11 974 5612,
EMAIL: callcentre@cometsa-goc.com WEB SITE: www.cometsa-goc.com
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 9/Module 9, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 27 - PLANNING and IMPLEMENTATION: All successes and/or failures can be ascribed to lack of or poor planning. As
the saying goes, “Failure to plan, is planning to fail”. You do not want to regret for failing to thoroughly plan for the show. Rather
over plan than not planning at all. It does not mean that everything you would have planned to accomplish in the show will be
accomplished. A plan is an orientation that you try to follow. If plan to reach high levels, if you fail you will at least arrive at middle
way. If you do not plan you may not even take off. That will spell a disaster for your show. How do you prepare for the show as a
DJ/Broadcaster/Host/Co-Host? Every person has different approaches to things. The same applies to DJs and Broadcasters. Make
sure that you develop your own approach to your show. Out of that come with a standard template and use it as a guideline. You
don’t want to be creating new approaches every time you host a show. That would be confusing your listeners.
CONDUCT 28 – KNOW YOUR GUEST: Take time to study the profiles of your guests, research them on Google, ask their
colleagues or network on LinkedIn for a bit of views on your guests professionally. Avoid being corrupted by their private li fe being
accidentally shared with you. That is not the objective of researching your guest. Try to be objective and fair in using information
you have acquired through this exercise. Be professional and do not go about discussing your guests with people who have nothing
to do with your show. Your aim is to understand your guest so that you can present them to your audience and extract valuable
lessons from them on behalf of your listeners. Your listeners will love you for being professional in the way you go about facilitating
their learning from your show. Be strategic, and do not approach the guests when it is too late, and you are desperately looking for
a guest. Give them enough to prepare for your show. Line up two replacement guests to avoid being totally dropped in the last
hours of your show. Be in touch with your main and replace guests a week, three days, a day before the show and the morning of
the show. This is more so if the guest is popular and you have promoted them widely.
==========================================================================
MODULE 11 – CONDUCT 29 – 31; LECTURE 11 (August 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
11 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER
PARK, ISANDO, GERMISTON, 1601, PO BOX 31429 BRAAMFONTEIN 2017, SOUTH AFRICA, TEL +27 11 974 9308 FAX +27 11 974 5612,
EMAIL: callcentre@cometsa-goc.com WEB SITE: www.cometsa-goc.com
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 10/Module 10, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 29 - SET RULES and PRINCIPLES: Develop your own principles and rules for your show in line with COMETSA
Values and Principles (copies are attached). Stick to your values and principles. Let your guests, listeners and other stakeholders
know about them. Repeat them regularly at your show. That is what will build the culture and identity of your show.
CONDUCT 30 - HOLD BRIEFINGS: Do not fall into a trap of being too overconfident and underestimate the value of holding
briefings with your guests, producers, co-hosts and performing dry runs before the show. You have nothing to lose but only gain
from holding briefings and performing dry runs with few fellow colleagues or peer mentors and coaches. You will be surprised by
the value you will extract from such practice. You will grow faster than you would have expected. Agree with your guests,
production team, co-hosts, and support teams on the approach you are going to follow at your show.
CONDUCT 31 - READ and WATCH NEWS: There is nothing worse to handling a topic that is related to breaking news you have
missed in the day. Your listeners will feel undermined and disrespected. It is enough to check the headlines, and trending hashtags
to be relevant in facilitating the conversation. That is why it is important to have a chat with your guest speaker an hour before to
check if there are any developments that may require adjustment of the plans for the show.
===================================================================================================
MODULE 12 – CONDUCT 32 – 33; LECTURE 12 (September 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)
Modules - COMETSA DJs/Broadcasters Development Programme (2020 – 2021)
12 COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD, Registration No. 2014/231808/07, COMETSA HOUSE, 13 SOMER STREET, KLOPPER

EMAIL: callcentre@cometsa-goc.com WEB SITE: www.cometsa-goc.com
OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 11/Module 11, Progress Update, and Statistics on
Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co
CONDUCT 32 - REPRESENT LISTENERS: Remember that you are there for the listeners as a host not for yourself. You may
want to ask questions or engage on issues that appeal to you but not relevant for the listeners. Be disciplined not to push your own
agendas. Ask yourself the question: What would the listeners want to know or learn from this guest? What type of questions will
unlock that for them? Ask such questions.
CONDUCT 33 - BEING FULLY PRESENT: This means physically and emotionally. Engage actively with the guests on behalf of
your listeners. Your remarks, responses, follow up questions must suggest that you are applying active listening and are fully
present. Refer to Conduct 13 - FOCUS. What to pay attention to during the show? One of the main requirements for effective
hosting and facilitation of a show is to be fully present. That means you must be awake at all the time through the show. Make sure
that the night before your show you rest and sleep enough. We know that this is a challenge as this is not your only activity in your
professional life. However, you should try to balance your involvement in the week of your show. If it becomes your full-time activity
comply with this requirement. You may also consider fitness programme to improve on your attention span.
===================================================================================================
MODULE 13 – CONDUCT 34 – 36; LECTURE 13 (October 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

CONDUCT 34 - MANAGE TIME: Facilitating shows that involve more than one guest are difficult to fit in prescribed times. People,
by nature enjoy talking and be listened to. Make sure that your rules and principles include adherence to time and what to do when
the guests go over time. Remember to put aside specific times for introductions, checking-in and checkin-out. You cannot eat into
those as they are the foundations of your show. How to manage your programme schedule, month in month out? Most of you are
hosting monthly whereas others are hosting weekly shows. You have different demands and challenges. Try as hard as possible
not to drop
SOURCE 35 - SOURCE OF TOPICS: As a member of COMETSA and Participant in the COMETSA DJ/Broadcasters Development
Programme (2020 - 2021) you have access to our Online Shop to search through topics at www.Cometsa-GoC.Com/Shop
CONDUCT 36 - CHECKING OUT: Never make a mistake of skipping the checking-out. You would have lost the opportunity to sum
up your show. Otherwise it would be like completing building the house but leaving out the roof. That would not be the house.

LECTURE 3 (December 2020;18h00 – 21h00 SAST) OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 2/Module 2, Progress Update, and Statistics on Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co CONDUCT 1 - SELF INTRODUCTION: Introduce yourself to the guests and the listeners. Plan your personal introduction. Don’t feel restricted but do not steal the thunder. Share your credentials that are appropriate for your show. Make sure you refer the listeners to your professional social media accounts for them to know more about you. CONDUCT 2 - INTRODUCE CO-HOSTS: Introduce your co-hosts to the listeners and the guests. Be respectful and acknowledge your co-hosts by introducing them to your guests and listeners. If they are comfortable, allow them to say few words about themselves and refer the listeners to their social media platforms for further insights. CONDUCT 3 - INTRODUCE GUESTS: Introduce your guests to the listeners. This is the big moment at the beginning of the show. You win or lose listeners right at this moment. Don’t over sell. Don’t undersell your guest. There may be listeners out there who know your guest more than you have researched or you know them. After saying few remarks on them, allow them to expand on your introductory remarks. Always remember to leave enough for your guests to say something about themselves. It is them who are at the centre of your show. Let them enjoy their moment. That is the value proposition that makes them want to volunteer their time, insights, knowledge, and experience. CONDUCT 4 - INTRODUCE THE STATION: Introduce the Radio Station to the listeners and your guests. We, at COMETSA, we will not forgive you for failing to introduce COMETSA Radio. Here is the text we want you to read slowly, relaxed, loud, and clear. COMETSA Radio is a business, entrepreneurship, and professional management services, 24/7 internet streaming radio station broadcasting from South Africa to the entire world. CONDUCT 5 - CHECK IN: Develop your way of checking into the show. Don’t pounce into it. You may first reflect on your previous show and its topic, or the other show by a fellow DJ that you participated into or listen to. A comment on the local and global current affairs may settle down the guests. The key is to get your guests start the show by talking about something unrelated to the topic to

They are trying too hard in their mind to be perfect. ========================================================================== MODULE 4 – CONDUCT 6 – 8. LECTURE 4 (January 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST) OPENING & WELCOME: Introductions, Checking-In, Reflection on Lecture 3/Module 3, Progress Update, and Statistics on Individual Shows Podcasts from Podcast.Co CONDUCT 6 - FACILITATE: Focus on facilitating the show. Use the LEKGOTLA Methodology to keep yourself in check. You must aim not only to become a good DJ and Broadcaster. You must also to become a good facilitator of conversations. That will give you additional opportunities in commerce and industry as a celebrity DJ Broadcaster to facilitate business conversations. CONDUCT 7 - AFFIRM and MOTIVATE: Affirm and motivate the Guest in the middle of the show as they hit high notes and mention some profound statements. The role of the host is to help the guests to reach their best level of performance. We want them to uplift the listeners to the highest level of energy vibration. CONDUCT 8 - LEAD CONVERSATIONS: Your performance yard stick is how you lead the flow of the Conversation. A good host and facilitator recognize when the conversation is flowing with a particular idea and allows it to be explored to the end or package it a way that meets the desires of the listeners. Disruption when the guest is in a flow and the listeners are enjoying the conversation is hated by the stakeholders. =================================================================================================== MODULE 5 – CONDUCT 9 – 12; LECTURE 5 (February 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

A host who is a good listener will recognize a new or alternative input offered by the guest and make a follow up with the guest to unpack it more. Moving away from new insightful inputs is interference with the learning process. Hence following up on new thoughts is one of the great qualities of facilitators and hosts of the shows. CONDUCT 10 - CHALLENGE RESPECTFULLY: You are required and expected to challenge any inputs and thoughts that are not supported by evidence. However, you must challenge the guests respectfully. CONDUCT 11 - DEBATES vs ARGUMENTS: Allow debates but do not enter destructive arguments. It is healthy to debate but debates must lead to resolving issues. The LEKGOTLA Conversation Methodology is appropriate for facilitating debates and resolving arguments. We will continue holding LEKGOTLA sessions to build capacity among our DJs and Broadcasters. CONDUCT 12 - LISTENING: As a facilitator, host speak less a listen more. Expand on the thoughts and inputs from the guests rather than being the one introducing new thoughts. Don’t talk too much and overshadow your guests and co-hosts =================================================================================================== MODULE 6 – CONDUCT 13 – 16; LECTURE 6 (March 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

The listeners will pick it up that you are eating. Only drinking is allowed but keep liquids far from the equipment. CONDUCT 14 - FOCUS: Just pretend you are entering physical studio, and do not allow anyone around you to obstruct your attention. If you allow that you will lose your trail of thought. That can be embarrassing for you, and you will lose the respect of the listeners. CONDUCT 15 - MOBILE PHONE: Put your mobile on silent, not vibrate. The listeners will hear your mobile phone when it vibrates. Don’t try to check your incoming text messages and notifications during the show. You may pick up disturbing notifications that will throw you out of balance. CONDUCT 16 - AUTHENTICITY: Try to be authentic and original as a host or co-host. Do not choreograph the show. Let the show take its natural flow. Yours is to set the framework and parameters within which your show will be allowed to fluctuate. Allow the highs and lows during the show. Let the listeners feels the emotions as generated by the participants in the show. ========================================================================== MODULE 7 – CONDUCT 17 – 20; LECTURE 7 (April 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

Let them experience the show a if they are in the studio with you. If you must express dismay, anxiety, do so on behalf of the listeners. That is, project the show to the listeners. If you talk too much and not be observant, you will not be able to represent the emotions of the listeners. That is what facilitating is all about, i.e. listen, observe, notice, relay the experience to the listeners, and bring back the experience to the participants in the show. It is like role playing a movie. CONDUCT 18 - RESPECT: Do not interrupt when one of the guests is still talking. If you find out that you have interrupted someone, apologize before occupying that unfairly gained space. Refer to our LEKGOTLA Conversation Methodology. Once you are known as a host who respect guests you will be sought after. Don’t forget that our radio has a global reach. Who knows, your talent might be identified by other reputable global broadcasters. This might be a launching pad of a career in internet broadcasting and podcasting. CONDUCT 19 - PROMOTION: Think through how you are going to promote your show among your own networks. The radio system is automatically going to generate listenership statistics for your show. You will be able to observe the growth or decline in your listenership. We can tell how many people listened to your show from which countries in the world, and how long they stayed on your show. Think about how you are going to augment the efforts of COMETSA Office in promoting and marketing your show. Think of Digital Marketing, using your own social media platforms. CONDUCT 20 - MAKE YOUR SHOW GO VIRAL: Each show will be converted into a Podcast at COMETSA Radio Podcast with you, the DJ/Broadcaster, as an Author of your episode. The podcast gets published at iTunes (Apple Podcasts), Google Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn, Stitcher, etc. Our platform, Podcast.Co, will produce daily download statistics of your podcast and report on which of our podcasts are leading on downloads. You will receive the link of your podcast and you can aggressively distribute it on your own social media platforms for it to go further viral. That is what digital marketing is all about. You are welcome to request statistics on your podcast at any point in time we will be able to give it to you. ========================================================================== MODULE 8 – CONDUCT 21 – 23; LECTURE 8 (May 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

What is your show’s value proposition to the guest you are targeting, i.e. what is it for them? In most cases people want to know that your show and the radio station attracts big and broader interest, it will give them unique experience, exposure, popularity, a copy of the podcast, mention in the public notifications, etc. You are welcome to explore the membership of COMETSA Friends & Supporters Club NPO for subject matter experts from whom to identify potential guests. Think about how you are going to source guests for your monthly shows. Identify the source of the guests. Build a database of potential guests. Contact them and give them heads up. Make sure that you know their email address, mobile numbers, landline numbers, and follow them on social media like LinkedIn CONDUCT 22 - GUEST CRITERIA: Develop your own criteria you are going to use to accept or reject guests. Be transparent so that you cannot be blamed for applying favouritism. COMETSA does not support any practice of favouritism, nepotism, corruption, tribalism, racism, sexism, etc. We expect everybody that qualifies to be given the opportunity. Work out the criteria you will be using to identify, select and invite the guests. Go beyond technical qualifications. Look at their personality, experience, reputation, energy levels, ability to express themselves, confidence level, communication skills, interest levels, willingness to volunteer their knowledge, passion for the topic you are addressing, willingness to share their sources, etc. CONDUCT 23 - SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS: We encourage you to put priority on Subject Matter Expertise when inviting guests. Over and above the guest criteria we will require the profiles of the guests and two referees to approve the guests. =================================================================================================== ========================================================================== MODULE 9 – CONDUCT 24 – 26; LECTURE 9 (June 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

Do your own desk research on every potential guest that is recommended to you, especially if you do not them personally. CONDUCT 25 – NETWORKING AS A RESOURCE: You must not only get in touch with people and build relationship when you need them to be your guests. Start seriously practicing professional networking and building of relationships with such personality who would be interested in your show and becoming your guests. It is easy to invite people that you have built relationship with them. Good talk show hosts are great networkers. They do this naturally. They know the movers in their sectors on first names. Aim to develop yourself into a top-level networker. Nurture your relationships. Be intentional about building your database. CONDUCT 26 - AFTER CARE: You should contact your guests two days after the show to thank them for their time, contribution, share the podcast link of the show with them, encourage them to consider becoming a regular guest at your show and other shows at COMETSA Radio. Be humble and appreciate your guests from immediately (1 to 2 days) after the show. Send them a thank you note personally. If you believe that they may contribute to other DJs/Broadcasters shows refer the guest to them, preferably via the production team at COMETSA office. We also want our guests to consider membership with COMETSA Friends & Supporters Club NPO. As the saying goes, “Failure to plan, is planning to fail”. You do not want to regret for failing to thoroughly plan for the show. Rather over plan than not planning at all. It does not mean that everything you would have planned to accomplish in the show will be accomplished. A plan is an orientation that you try to follow. If plan to reach high levels, if you fail you will at least arrive at middle way. If you do not plan you may not even take off. That will spell a disaster for your show. How do you prepare for the show as a DJ/Broadcaster/Host/Co-Host? Every person has different approaches to things. The same applies to DJs and Broadcasters. Make sure that you develop your own approach to your show. Out of that come with a standard template and use it as a guideline. You don’t want to be creating new approaches every time you host a show. That would be confusing your listeners. CONDUCT 28 – KNOW YOUR GUEST: Take time to study the profiles of your guests, research them on Google, ask their colleagues or network on LinkedIn for a bit of views on your guests professionally. Avoid being corrupted by their private li fe being accidentally shared with you. That is not the objective of researching your guest. Try to be objective and fair in using information you have acquired through this exercise. Be professional and do not go about discussing your guests with people who have nothing to do with your show. Your aim is to understand your guest so that you can present them to your audience and extract valuable lessons from them on behalf of your listeners. Your listeners will love you for being professional in the way you go about facilitating their learning from your show. Be strategic, and do not approach the guests when it is too late, and you are desperately looking for a guest. Give them enough to prepare for your show. Line up two replacement guests to avoid being totally dropped in the last hours of your show. Be in touch with your main and replace guests a week, three days, a day before the show and the morning of the show. This is more so if the guest is popular and you have promoted them widely. ========================================================================== MODULE 11 – CONDUCT 29 – 31; LECTURE 11 (August 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

Stick to your values and principles. Let your guests, listeners and other stakeholders know about them. Repeat them regularly at your show. That is what will build the culture and identity of your show. CONDUCT 30 - HOLD BRIEFINGS: Do not fall into a trap of being too overconfident and underestimate the value of holding briefings with your guests, producers, co-hosts and performing dry runs before the show. You have nothing to lose but only gain from holding briefings and performing dry runs with few fellow colleagues or peer mentors and coaches. You will be surprised by the value you will extract from such practice. You will grow faster than you would have expected. Agree with your guests, production team, co-hosts, and support teams on the approach you are going to follow at your show. CONDUCT 31 - READ and WATCH NEWS: There is nothing worse to handling a topic that is related to breaking news you have missed in the day. Your listeners will feel undermined and disrespected. It is enough to check the headlines, and trending hashtags to be relevant in facilitating the conversation. That is why it is important to have a chat with your guest speaker an hour before to check if there are any developments that may require adjustment of the plans for the show. =================================================================================================== MODULE 12 – CONDUCT 32 – 33; LECTURE 12 (September 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

You may want to ask questions or engage on issues that appeal to you but not relevant for the listeners. Be disciplined not to push your own agendas. Ask yourself the question: What would the listeners want to know or learn from this guest? What type of questions will unlock that for them? Ask such questions. CONDUCT 33 - BEING FULLY PRESENT: This means physically and emotionally. Engage actively with the guests on behalf of your listeners. Your remarks, responses, follow up questions must suggest that you are applying active listening and are fully present. Refer to Conduct 13 - FOCUS. What to pay attention to during the show? One of the main requirements for effective hosting and facilitation of a show is to be fully present. That means you must be awake at all the time through the show. Make sure that the night before your show you rest and sleep enough. We know that this is a challenge as this is not your only activity in your professional life. However, you should try to balance your involvement in the week of your show. If it becomes your full-time activity comply with this requirement. You may also consider fitness programme to improve on your attention span. =================================================================================================== MODULE 13 – CONDUCT 34 – 36; LECTURE 13 (October 2021; 18h00 – 21h00 SAST)

People, by nature enjoy talking and be listened to. Make sure that your rules and principles include adherence to time and what to do when the guests go over time. Remember to put aside specific times for introductions, checking-in and checkin-out. You cannot eat into those as they are the foundations of your show. How to manage your programme schedule, month in month out? Most of you are hosting monthly whereas others are hosting weekly shows. You have different demands and challenges.
