issues, educate young activists
and more.

Centre for Public Interest Litigation, Butterflies, CRY, CREA
etc.
OTHER NGOS THAT WORK IN DIFFERENT
ASPECTS OF URBAN PROBLEMS ARE:-
 1. Child in Need Institute (CINI) :- It is regarded
as one of the most influential institutions working
for poor children in India. The organization aim at
strengthening local governance processes that
give marginalized and poor communities a voice
and influence national policy. They are active in
deprived communities and in low-income urban
settlements. They seek to break the vicious cycle
of poverty, malnutrition, ill-health, illiteracy, abuse
and violence. CINI sees its role as a facilitator in
fostering partnerships between people and
government. Their initial focus on health and
nutrition has grown further in the areas of
education and child protection.
 Other NGOs that work for child welfare are :-
1. Delhi Council for Child Welfare
2. Shraddhanand Mahilashram
3. Bhumi
4. SOS Children’s Villages of India
 2. Centre for Health,
Education, Training and
Nutrition Awareness
(CHETNA) :- CHETNA
meaning “awareness” in
several Indian languages. It
addresses issues of women’s
health and development in
different stages of their lives
from a “Rights” perspective. It
aims to work as a catalyst for
ensuring that policies become
programmes that have a
positive impact on the lifecycle
of a woman, beginning from
birth. CHETNA supports GO
and NGOs through building the
management capacities of
educationists enabling them to
implement their programmes
related to children, young
people and women from a

and advocate for people
centered policies.

environment are:-

3. Aaranyak
 4. PETA India:- It is a NGO based in
Mumbai, which operates under the
simple principle that animals are not
ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for
entertainment, or abuse in any other
way, They also educate policymakers
and the public about animal abuse and
promoting an understanding of the right
of all animals to be treated with respect.
It focuses primarily on the areas in
which the greatest numbers of animals
suffer the most: in laboratories, in the
food industry, in the leather trade, and in
the entertainment business.
Investigations, public education efforts,
research, animal rescues, legislative
work, special events, celebrity
involvement, and national media
coverage initiated by PETA have
resulted in countless improvements to
the quality of life for animals and have
saved countless animals’ lives.
Other NGOs that play a
vital role in protection of
animals from abuse are:-
1. Animal Aid Unlimited
2. Wildlife SOS India
3. Visakha Society for
Protection and Care of
Animals (VSPCA India)
 5. Smile Foundation:- Since urban
slum dwellers lack the education to
be aware of diseases and
healthcare, they do not approach
hospitals for checkups out of risking
a day’s wages. Smile has a two-fold
approach to tackle this problem.
They first bring quality healthcare
services within easy access of the
needy. The second step is to
promote healthcare awareness and
encourage the poor to seek help.
 6. Snehalaya:- This NGO provides
basic necessities and life to the
children who are born HIV + mainly
children of sex workers.
 7. Mohan Foundation:- It
promotes organ donation. The
Government of India passed this
act in 1994 to broaden the
concept of organ donation and
stop commercial dealings in
organs, especially kidneys. It is
now possible to not only donate
one’s eyes, but also other vital
organs like the heart, lungs, liver,
pancreas and kidneys.
Other Ngos working in
healthcare are:-
Mental Health
1. Ashadeep Mission.
2. Raphael
Health
1. Goonj.
2. Udaan Welfare
Foundation.
 8. RECITY:- Most Indian cities are today succumbing to the
pressures of burgeoning population, crumbling infrastructure and
overwhelming pollution. As a result, billions of dollars’ worth of
productivity is at stake, due to the lack of a fundamental approach
in civic planning. The problems start right at our doorsteps in the
form of garbage & sanitation issues, accost us as we commute to
work in the form of traffic snarls and pollution, and hold our lives to
ransom in the form of misplaced policies and ill-planned cities.
RECITY is building out a full stack of education institutions,
subject-matter experts & NGOs in areas as diverse as urban
planning, architecture, environmental engineering, hydrology &
remote sensing, geo-spatial analysis, etc.
 9. Give India:- It is a non profit
organization in India. It is an online
donation platform and aims to channel
and provide resources to credible non-
governmental organizations across
India.
 10. Kashtakari Panchayat:- Among the
frontlines of India’s battle against
corona-virus are waste pickers, who
ensure towns and cities are clean and
garbage-free. But given the nature of
their work, they are also among the
communities most vulnerable to
infections. They have organised a
fundraiser programme to support these
workers. The funds will be used to
provide safety kits, consisting of gloves,
masks, soaps and sanitizers, and a
month’s supply of essentials, like grains,
pulses, oil, sugar and tea.
11. Youth Feed India Program under SAFA
Organisation:- organisation works for the urban poor by
introducing sustainable livelihoods through an area-based
community model. This also includes establishing skill
training centres for the youth. With covid-19 having
adversely affected the migrant population, Safa & other
NGOs including Cry , BGIF, and 15 others are helping us.
