Non-profit organizations are dynamic actors in the
contemporary society, contributing to the
community development and general welfare. They
are primarily credited of answering to social needs,
but they also contribute to economic, cultural, or
behavioral transformations by cooperating with
public bodies and other individuals and
organizational actors.

4. IN TERMS OF CONCRETE ACTIONS AND
PROJECTS
Publicize: award programmes, press campaigns, placards,
posters, notice boards, media exercises (photographs, video,
films, articles), non-formal activities: street dramas,
newsletters, bulletins, documentation of case studies etc.
Interact: formal and informal community group meetings,
forums/workshops, site visits, interviews, etc.
Support: internships, training in leadership and other
organizational/operational skills, surveys and other means of
information gathering etc.
5. IMPORTANT MEASURES OF NGOS
The measures refers to the official and unofficial recruitment, planning,
monitoring, evaluating the productivity of natural resources and the
environment, supporting the poor and certain patients, income belongs
to the charity, exhibition, research, joint projects, government, public,
and international donations, information of the newsletters, posters,
announcements, and internet.
Culture refers to the religious meetings, theater, music, painting, film
advertisements, individual and collective identity, giving responsibility to
the people, and protecting the monuments and cultural heritage.
Public training includes training conferences, workshops, and training
seminars, training experts, public and scientific lectures, and advice.
Research includes a social needs assessment, improving efficiency, and
sample introduction. Communicating with government departments
including giving advice and holding joint meetings, joint projects,
expression of bugs and suggestions to improve matters, and monitoring
and controlling of public projects.
6. NGOS AND HUMAN RIGHTS
NGO’s have a vital role to play
in the promotion and protection
of human right specially in the
developing country, has the
largest number of NGO’s whose
activates are spared in different
fields for the welfare of human
being including the promotion
and protection of human right.
The Human Rights issues in
India relate to the child labour,
right to education, health,
trafficking of women and
children, food security,
disappearance of persons,
violation of Human Rights in
prisons and the disabled etc.
7. AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, INDIA
It has been a grass-roots
organization since 1961,
independent of government,
business, religion or political
groups. It works to protect justice,
promote truth and prevent human
rights abuse. They raise money to
support work, devise campaign
strategies, develop tools to help
spread the word, encourage
journalists to cover human rights
issues, educate young activists
and more.

Centre for Public Interest Litigation, Butterflies, CRY, CREA
etc.
8. OTHER NGOS THAT WORK IN DIFFERENT
ASPECTS OF URBAN PROBLEMS ARE:-
1. Child in Need Institute (CINI) :- It is regarded
as one of the most influential institutions working
for poor children in India. The organization aim at
strengthening local governance processes that
give marginalized and poor communities a voice
and influence national policy. They are active in
deprived communities and in low-income urban
settlements. They seek to break the vicious cycle
of poverty, malnutrition, ill-health, illiteracy, abuse
and violence. CINI sees its role as a facilitator in
fostering partnerships between people and
government. Their initial focus on health and
nutrition has grown further in the areas of
education and child protection.

9. 2. Centre for Health,
Education, Training and
Nutrition Awareness
(CHETNA) :- CHETNA
meaning “awareness” in
several Indian languages. It
addresses issues of women’s
health and development in
different stages of their lives
from a “Rights” perspective. It
aims to work as a catalyst for
ensuring that policies become
programmes that have a
positive impact on the lifecycle
of a woman, beginning from
birth. CHETNA supports GO
and NGOs through building the
management capacities of
educationists enabling them to
implement their programmes
related to children, young
people and women from a
holistic and gender perspective
and advocate for people
centered policies.

(IES) :- It has been promoting
Environmental Improvement Initiatives
in India since 1972. IES is active in
Environmental Education, Biodiversity
Conservation, Information
Dissemination, Solid Waste
Management, Eco-Technology &
Heritage Conservation. Environmental
Education has been the centerpiece of
all programs of the Society. The
organization is meritoriously operating
in different States of the Country. is a
dynamic and flexible organization with
a global vision and local focus.

11. 4. PETA India:- It is a NGO based in
Mumbai, which operates under the
simple principle that animals are not
ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for
entertainment, or abuse in any other
way, They also educate policymakers
and the public about animal abuse and
promoting an understanding of the right
of all animals to be treated with respect.
It focuses primarily on the areas in
which the greatest numbers of animals
suffer the most: in laboratories, in the
food industry, in the leather trade, and in
the entertainment business.
Investigations, public education efforts,
research, animal rescues, legislative
work, special events, celebrity
involvement, and national media
coverage initiated by PETA have
resulted in countless improvements to
the quality of life for animals and have
saved countless animals’ lives.

12. 5. Smile Foundation:- Since urban
slum dwellers lack the education to
be aware of diseases and
healthcare, they do not approach
hospitals for checkups out of risking
a day’s wages. Smile has a two-fold
approach to tackle this problem.
They first bring quality healthcare
services within easy access of the
needy. The second step is to
promote healthcare awareness and
encourage the poor to seek help.
6. Snehalaya:- This NGO provides
basic necessities and life to the
children who are born HIV + mainly
children of sex workers.
13. 7. Mohan Foundation:- It
promotes organ donation. The
Government of India passed this
act in 1994 to broaden the
concept of organ donation and
stop commercial dealings in
organs, especially kidneys. It is
now possible to not only donate
one’s eyes, but also other vital
organs like the heart, lungs, liver,
pancreas and kidneys.

14. 8. RECITY:- Most Indian cities are today succumbing to the
pressures of burgeoning population, crumbling infrastructure and
overwhelming pollution. As a result, billions of dollars’ worth of
productivity is at stake, due to the lack of a fundamental approach
in civic planning. The problems start right at our doorsteps in the
form of garbage & sanitation issues, accost us as we commute to
work in the form of traffic snarls and pollution, and hold our lives to
ransom in the form of misplaced policies and ill-planned cities.
RECITY is building out a full stack of education institutions,
subject-matter experts & NGOs in areas as diverse as urban
planning, architecture, environmental engineering, hydrology &
remote sensing, geo-spatial analysis, etc.
15. 9. Give India:- It is a non profit
organization in India. It is an online
donation platform and aims to channel
and provide resources to credible non-
governmental organizations across
India.
10. Kashtakari Panchayat:- Among the
frontlines of India’s battle against
corona-virus are waste pickers, who
ensure towns and cities are clean and
garbage-free. But given the nature of
their work, they are also among the
communities most vulnerable to
infections. They have organised a
fundraiser programme to support these
workers. The funds will be used to
provide safety kits, consisting of gloves,
masks, soaps and sanitizers, and a
month’s supply of essentials, like grains,
pulses, oil, sugar and tea.
16. 11. Youth Feed India Program under SAFA
Organisation:- organisation works for the urban poor by
introducing sustainable livelihoods through an area-based
community model. This also includes establishing skill
training centres for the youth. With covid-19 having
adversely affected the migrant population, Safa & other
NGOs including Cry , BGIF, and 15 others are helping us.
