Teaching approach: Based on Communicative Approach.
Materials and resources: Copies, projector, poster, Book, short story, board.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class: In this lesson, a video in a projector will be
showed to reflect about it and generate discussion.
Seating arrangement: Students will be sitting on their places in order to
facilitate visual contact and interaction within the group. At some point of the
lesson, they will be working in pairs and groups.
Cooperative work: Students will work in groups to do the reading and
discussion activity about the short story and in pairs to do the reading activity
from the book. Cooperative work helps students to develop their learning as
well.
Potential problems students may have with the language: Students may have
problems when discussing about the video and doing the poster, I will help them
with vocabulary. They may also have problems with the comprehension of the
short story, in that case I will guide them with the reading in class to understand
better.
3. Assessment: what will be assessedand how: I´ll check that students
comprehend the new structure in the reading they will have during the class and
while they work I will monitor them.
Routine (3´)
Purpose: To start the lesson.
Good morning students! ”How are you today?” . They will probably answer “fine, ok,
tired, bored or fantastic”
“Are you ready to start the class?”
“Yes!”
Transition: Ok, let´s start…
Warm- Up ( 5-8´)
Purpose: to get students into the mood for work, establish rapport.
I will ask the students if they remember something about the text from las last class.
“Do you remember from last class what equipment we SHOULD wear when practising
sports?”
One of their probable answer will be “We should wear a helmet when we ride a bike”
I will elicit more answers and highlight the word SHOULD when they mention it.
Transition: Very good! Let´s see when we use SHOULD.
Presentation (10´)
Purpose: expose the learners to the target language.
I will write SHOULD and SHOULDN´T on the board and I will explain them that these
modals are used to give advice.
Then, I will write ..I HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW.
Imagine that you have an exam tomorrow. What should your friend tell you? And I will
write on the board to help them. YOU SHOULD STUDY or YOU SHOULND´T
STUDY FOR YOUR EXAM.
4. I will listen to them and provide another example so that they use SHOULDN´T.
I EAT LOTS OF CHOCOLATE.
“What can we say here?. You should or shouldn´t …?”
They will probably answer YOU SHOULDN´T EAT LOTS OF CHOCOLATE”
Transition: Great! Look at the following activity now from your book.
Development
Activity 1 ( 15´)
Purpose: to practice the new structure.
I will invite students to work in pairs to do the following the next activity.
I will walk around monitoring them and then, they will share with the whole class.
Transition: Excellent job! Now, you will continue working in pairs…
Activity 2 (20´)
Purpose: to develop their reading and comprehension skills.
I will give students a copy with a dialogue. I will invite them to read it with me.
5. In order to check comprehension I will ask them some questions.
a) What sport is it?
b) What equipment do you need to skateboard?
c) Where should you go if you are learning?
d) How can you avoid injury?
After they answer, I will invite them to read the dialogue in pairs.
I will walk around listening to them.
Transition: well job! Let´s pay attention now what you should or shouldn´t do when
skateboarding.
Activity 3 ( 10´)
Purpose: to check their understanding of the text.
Now that they have practised and understood the dialogue I will ask students to cover
their dialogue and do the following activity about it.

CLOSURE (20´)
Purpose: to expose students to authentic use of language and generate discussion in
order to build better relationships between them and create a friendly, warm
atmosphere.
Activity 1 ( 5´)
I will invite students to watch and reflect on the following video.
(As the level of the students is low, they will listen to the video in English but with
Subtitles in Spanish to help them understand))

Activity 2 ( 10-15´)

PEOPLE IN BOXES.
I will try to elicit if they understand what it is after the video.
After students have a clear idea of what it is, I will try to encourage them to tell what the
message of the video is.
They may say their ideas in Spanish but I will help them to produce them in English and
I will write every idea on the board.
7. Some ideas could be related to how we treat or judge people, how we are treated and
judged, how different we are but how much we have in common.
Transition: Excellent job students! Get prepared to work in groups now…
Activity 2 ( 20´)
Then, I will ask students what advice they could give for themselves after the
discussion.

YOU SHOULDN´T JUDGE PEOPLE.
YOU SHOULD TREAT ALL PEOPLE EQUALLY
YOU SHOULDN´T UNDERESTIMATE PEOLE.
After they have discussed some ideas I will ask them to work in groups and think about
more ideas and prepare a poster to share and expose to their partners.

other group will have to explain in general what they have understood. I will guide and
help them.
When all groups have read a bit, I will ask them to copy the following column.
