3. Balance
You have to
balance job,
family and health.
If you ignore any
one of them too
long, you will pay
a high price at
the expense of
the others.

4. Change
Embrace change.
Stagnation is the
enemy. The minute
you stop changing
and growing, you
start dying.

5. Communication
You have to communicate
well: up, down, sideways.
People have a preferred
method of taking in
information—email,
voicemail, face-to-face.
Find out what each
person likes and use it.

6. Decisions
Reserve the right to make
the decisions, but get all
the input you can first.
Be an informed dictator.

7. Details
You have to be
involved in the
details. You can’t
do projects
successfully
without it.

8. Time Management
Computers can enhance
communications—and they can
also be the greatest killer of
efficiency yet devised.

9. Humor
When we lose our humor, we’ve
lost. Levity lightens the load.

10. Ideas
They’re everywhere.
Ask everyone you
meet. You would be
surprised how many
really good ideas come
from unusual sources.

11. Quality
Why is there never time to
do it right, but always time
to do it over?

12. Objectives
Yours and your
customers'
must match.

13. Organizational Balance
Every organization, no matter how big or small,
has strengths and weaknesses. Surround
yourself with people with opposite strengths
and weaknesses from yours.

14. Perception
Perceptions are reality
to the perceiver. It
doesn’t matter a bit
what the real truth is.

15. Forgiveness
Don’t beat people up.
They already know they
made a mistake—even
before you did! They
already feel terrible
about it. Help them.

16. Trust
Never go back on your word. If
something changes, be honest.
Once you lose your reputation,
you’ll never get it back.

17. Self Discipline
Napoleon Hill called it the master key to riches.
He was right. Without it, success is impossible.
Do whatever you have to do to develop it.
