Duke University was founded by James Buchanan Duke. The
university is located in Durham N.C. It was founded in 1838.

Before he founded the university, James B. Duke owned a tobacco company.
He supplied about 40% of the American cigarettes. He had one of the
biggest monopolies in America.
Before he died, he left his trust funds to Trinity College. In honor of his
legacy, they renamed the college Duke University.
4. Blue Devils
The Duke Blue Devils have won 12 NCAA Championships. The name comes
from “les Diables Bleus” meaning Blue Devils in French.
Duke’s sport teams have the longest championships in sports. In the top 5
years, Duke has always come in the top 20 in the NACDA directors cup.
