inhabitants that occupies the northern North
America and is the second largest country in the
world.
After the discovery of America, other European countries arrived in
search of new lands. Settlers from England and France came to the
northern part of America and fought to stay there.
After several battles between France and England, the colonies were
conquered by the English in the eighteenth century.

Chrétien and the Liberal Party of Canada.
Canada took part in the War in Afghanistan
from 2001 and still has troops there ,
having an important role in the invasion of
Canada in Afghanistan . In March 2006,
Stephen Harper traveled to Afghanistan to

Karzai and the Canadian troops in
Kandahar, Canada sent 15,000 men to
Afghanistan until 2008, of which about
2,500 are deployed and 81 Canadians have
died between February 2002 to March 16,
2008.

1541. Newfoundland was annexed to the British
Empire by Sir Humphrey Gilbert in 1583. The
first permanent French colony was the Acadia
(Nova Scotia) founded in 1604 by Samuel de
Champlain, being followed in 1608 by the
Colony of Quebec. In 1627 Cardinal Richelieu
founded a joint stock company . In 1628 Sir
William Alexander set up a Scottish colony in
what is now Scotland. The French founded new
settlements in Trois-Rivières in 1634 and
Montreal in 1642. In 1663 under King Louis XIV
of France the colony of New France happens to
be under the direct authority of the king.

Red and white were approved as Canada's official colours in the
proclamation of her coat of arms in 1921.
In 1957, the colour of the maple leaves on the shield of the
Royal Arms of Canada was changed from green on a white
ground to red on a white ground in recognition of Canada's
official colours.
