Next generation ARM Connected Community
Making it even easier to design on ARM
http://community.arm.com
ARMv8 continues it’s approach of keeping the architecture simple in it’s RISC roots.
ARMv8 firstly is designed to be fully compatible with the ARMv7 and prior 32bit software assets
It is build from the ground up to be lean and elegant
It introduces capabilities to improve performance and efficiency for increasingly common concurrent programming paradigms and thread software requriements
Most devices that are constantly connected also increasingly need security and privacy. Traditionally most of this has been done with accelerators on die as this is the more energy-efficient choice. However for some often used operations that operate on smaller granules, it can be more efficient in energy as well as development cost to do it on the processor. ARMv8 supports this with optional crypto extensions
The major update is the 64-bit architecture – AARCH64 - which is designed from scratch to be a very efficient
To reuse as much of the hardware as possible
Reduce the modes and complexities that may not be needed for a clean 64-bit design.
and to be judicious to allow the processor to only keep absolutely the minimum amount of logic active for any operation
Cue to next slide
- AARCH64 enables ARM partners to extend the reach of it’s applications while expanding it’s extensive 32-bit software assets and ecosystem
Points:
New wearable devices are facilitating new user interactions as well as assisting us with our health and fitness
New devices are coming from traditional health care providers, to shoe companies, to small startups with some great ideas.
With new health and fitness devices we are quantifying ourselves to ultimately improve our health and fitness.
