Dear Colleagues:
The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. in cooperation with the
National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) – National Committee on Library and
Information Services (NCLIS), National Library of the Philippines and the National Committee
on Resource Description and Access (NCRDA) will be holding a two-day Public Consultation
and Training Workshop on RDA Policy and Action Plan for Philippine Libraries to be held
at the UST Miguel de Benavides Library, University of Santo Tomas, España, Manila on March
27-28, 2014.
This activity aims to: (1) provide a nationwide public consultation for the full adaptation and
implementation of the National Policy on Resource Description and Access for Filipiniana
Materials/Resources among different types of libraries, museums and archives; (2) develop
an action plan for RDA implementation in the country; and (3) conduct a hands-on
training/workshop on the application of the proposed policies and standard.
Thus, we have invited the following as resource persons with their topics:
1. RDA for Philippine Libraries : Proposed Guidelines and Standard by Mrs. Mila M. Ramos
2. MARC 21 : Bibliographic and Authority Data Format in Koha by Dr. Sonia M. Gementiza
3. Recording Attributes of Manifestation of Item : Guidelines and Policies for Filipiniana
Resources by Prof. Rodolfo Y. Tarlit
4. Identifying Works and Expression in Filipiniana Resources by Ms. Ana Maria B. Fresnido
5. Identifying Persons, Families and Corporate bodies in Filipiniana Resources by Prof. Ruben P.
Marasigan
6. Public Consultation in the Implementation of Cataloging Policy Statement for Filipiniana
Resources by Ms. Corazon M. Nera

Librarians, catalogers, library administrators and faculty of LIS from the National Capital
Region, nearby cities and provinces who have had training/orientation/background on RDA
are invited to participate in this training. Pre-registration is required. Kindly fill up the

A live-out training fee of Php 2,700.00 will be charged inclusive of meals, seminar kit and
certificate, payable in cash or check (payable to Philippine Association of

As part of our Membership Campaign, PAARL is inviting your institution to join the
Association as an institutional member or renew its membership.
Institutional members are those which maintain academic or research libraries and are
interested in supporting the objectives of the Association. The representative of an
institutional member, usually its head librarian, shall be designated upon payment of
the membership due amounting to only PhP 500.00, renewable every year, and shall
have the rights and privileges of a regular member, including the opportunity to join
our book exhibitions. Also, institutional members can join PAARLNET, a network of
libraries who participate in an Interlibrary Lending Program, a cooperative resourcesharing arrangement that is expected to serve our common interests and needs.
PAARL is also campaigning to increase the number of our individual members.
Librarians in your institution may join as individual (regular or associate members) for
a fee of only PhP 200.00 per year.
We are enclosing a reply form for your convenience. Please send it back to us either
via snail mail or e-mail at m_batiancila@gmail.com. Payments may be made in check
or PMO payable to “PAARL” and also by depositing to our BPI Family Bank

This activity aims to: (1) provide a nationwide public consultation for the full adaptation and implementation of the National Policy on Resource Description and Access for Filipiniana Materials/Resources among different types of libraries, museums and archives; (2) develop an action plan for RDA implementation in the country; and (3) conduct a hands-on training/workshop on the application of the proposed policies and standard. Thus, we have invited the following as resource persons with their topics: 1. RDA for Philippine Libraries : Proposed Guidelines and Standard by Mrs. Mila M. Ramos 2. MARC 21 : Bibliographic and Authority Data Format in Koha by Dr. Sonia M. Gementiza 3. Recording Attributes of Manifestation of Item : Guidelines and Policies for Filipiniana Resources by Prof. Rodolfo Y. Tarlit 4. Identifying Works and Expression in Filipiniana Resources by Ms. Ana Maria B. Fresnido 5. Identifying Persons, Families and Corporate bodies in Filipiniana Resources by Prof. Ruben P. Marasigan 6. Public Consultation in the Implementation of Cataloging Policy Statement for Filipiniana Resources by Ms. Corazon M. Institutional members are those which maintain academic or research libraries and are interested in supporting the objectives of the Association. The representative of an institutional member, usually its head librarian, shall be designated upon payment of the membership due amounting to only PhP 500.00, renewable every year, and shall have the rights and privileges of a regular member, including the opportunity to join our book exhibitions. Also, institutional members can join PAARLNET, a network of libraries who participate in an Interlibrary Lending Program, a cooperative resourcesharing arrangement that is expected to serve our common interests and needs. PAARL is also campaigning to increase the number of our individual members. Librarians in your institution may join as individual (regular or associate members) for a fee of only PhP 200.00 per year.
