23. How long does it take for a study
to be approved?
If there are no further modifications
to the protocol, approval may be
issued at least four weeks after receipt
of the initial submission package by
the Office. However, based on
experience this usually takes six
months to one year.

GRANT
• Description & Eligibility
• Open to all undergraduate, medical, and master’s
students without any scholarship. This grant will serve as
Thesis Subsidy.
• The student/s must conduct the study as a co-
investigator/s and the consultant adviser must assume
the role of the principal investigator.
• The Thesis Adviser, Department Chair and Dean must
endorse the application and submission of
requirements. The Thesis Adviser will be responsible for
financial disbursements and liquidation of funds.

• Amount Provided
• Up to Php 40,000.00 per project shall be
provided to cover for the Maintenance and
Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).
• A maximum of two (2) projects per consultant
adviser will be funded per year.

31. UPM REGULAR RESEARCH GRANT
• Description & Eligibility
• The UP Manila Regular Research Grant is open to all UP
Manila regular faculty and researchers who implement
research that are primarily consistent with the UP
Manila research priorities, which are based on the
National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA)
2011-2016.
• In cases where an applicant for this grant is a trainee
(i.e. resident or fellow in-training), s/he must conduct
the study as a co-investigator and request a consultant
staff or faculty from the same unit to assume the role of
the principal investigator.

32. UPM REGULAR RESEARCH GRANT
• Amount Provided
• Up to Php 300,000.00 per recipient shall be provided to
cover for Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses
(MOOE) and personnel honoraria.
• The number of grants to be provided each year shall be
dependent on the amount allotted by UP Manila for
research.
• Only one project per proponent will be funded per year.

35. Why publish your research?
• RESEARCH is not complete until it is published.
• Journal publications are a strong signal of thought
leadership
• The articles themselves are evidence that the
author is contributing to the knowledge base

• Value of Award
• For journal articles published in WoS-indexed journals and
conference proceedings with no Impact Factor or in Scopus-listed
journals, the maximum amount of the IPA shall be P55,000
• For articles published in WoS-indexed journals with an Impact
Factor below 2.0000, the maximum amount of the IPA is P65,000.
• For articles published in WoS-indexed journals with an Impact
Factor of 2.0000 to <4.0000, the maximum amount of the IPA is
P80,000.
• For articles published inWoS-indexed journals with an Impact Factor
of 4.0000 to <6.0000, the maximum amount of the IPA is P100,000.
• For articles published inWoS-indexed journals with an Impact Factor
of 6.0000 to <8.0000, the maximum amount of the IPA is P125,000.
• For articles published inWoS-indexed journals with an Impact Factor
of 8.0000 and above, the maximum amount of the IPA is P155,000.

It is true that publishing in journals is not easy and takes time (another topic for another post) so it is not always feasible. But I think practitioners can and should be publishing in journals more than they currently do.
