“I’ve been on this journey since 1990. I was jolted into action as a twenty year old who found herself standing
in a basement room just off the Kings Road in an AA meeting. I was young. I was sallow. I was very, very alone.
I had my last drink on that day and the journey to recovery from an adolescence full of trauma began. Not a day goes by
when I don’t swim in gratitude, living my life with purpose, meaning and love.”
Lisa is a highly regarded independent lecturer, keynote speaker (in trauma, attachment, recovery, looked after children, and the
experience of care leavers), writer and coach. She facilitates The Writing Path, and has developed the ‘Whatever! Youth Coaching’
programme.
Lisa has worked with young people in social care, children and families, early years development and education environments in a
variety of roles including as a social worker in residential and care leaving environments and as a Connexions worker supporting
young people not in education, employment and training. More recently, she worked as an extended services co-ordinator
making sure that services meet the needs of vulnerable young people.
As a child Lisa experienced the care system as a looked after child and this experience has led her to write and publish three
books and develop courses and keynote presentations on this and associated subjects. She has built a reputation for delivering
transformational training and engaging participants imaginatively in the world of the traumatised child."

The Child In Care?
Once a child becomes ‘the child in care,’ the story of that child can easily
become fragmented, misunderstood and lost. Pieces of a life, a history
and an identity can feel as though they have been scattered like pebbles
along the beach.
Who holds the story of the child in care? When a child is part of the care
system, where is their physical, and their emotional ‘story’ held, for the
adult they will become?
This one day workshop has been put together to understand the role
practitioners and carers play in being part of ‘holding the child’s story’ in
the present and for the future.
We will be exploring perspectives on ensuring the ‘story’ doesn’t
disintegrate, become too distorted, disrespected or disappear.
