Procrastination is a big problem we face...
Welcome for any feedback about the presentation..
2. Procrastination is putting off or deferring an action (usually one we
don't want to do) until a later time (usually the last minute).
Activities that inspire procrastination include work, chores, studying, or
anything else we don't feel like doing right now. Activities we choose in
our procrastination include surfing the Internet, watching television,
reorganizing our pencils, talking on the phone, or sleeping. Great
synonyms for this word include dilly-dallying and shillyshally.
What is procrastination?
3. How are you procrastinating?
When you hear yourself say things like, oh, I have plenty of time to get
to that priority project, Or, I work better under pressure. Or maybe,
you've heard yourself say, I'll get to it, but first I just want to. And off you
go. These are procrastination pick up lines.
You might also realize that certain behaviors are your stalling
techniques. They can also serve as red flags that you're entering the
procrastination zone.
4. Why do we procrastinate?
Procrastination
Lack of
confidence
Distracted
Overwhelmed
Creatively
Blocked
Dread the
project
5. Lack of confidence
You will realize that they're avoiding tasks because they lack confidence or they
lack skill, in that area.
You tend to set unrealistically high expectations for yourself.
How To overcome?!!
Build up your skills.
Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts.
Set realistic standards (expectations).
Production before perfection.
Visualize Success.
6. Distracted
Two main Reasons for being distracted:
1. Temptations(he idea of a few relaxing minutes on Facebook—or clocking
off for drinks with friends—can seem irresistibly alluring)
2. Interruptions(co-workers who won’t stop pestering with questions,
emails you’d rather not deal with)
How To avoid being distracted ?!!!
Prepare. Before you start to work, make sure you have everything ready so
you don't waste time looking for things.
Time it. set your timer to either 30 or 60 minute blocks so that you can take
breaks in between.
Ignore the noise. Noise is everything that falls into the distraction category:
incoming emails, text messages, phone calls, people asking random questions,
your social media feed, watching the news, etc.
Reward yourself. Once you've completed several chunks of deep work, take
a longer break of about an hour.
7. Overwhelmed
Being overwhelmed when you see that monstrous
task sort of barreling at you, and get paralyzed into
inactivity.
How To avoid being overwhelmed?!!
Break down a big project lots of little, bite sized
manageable pieces.
Setting interim deadlines is another great way to
jump-start a project that you're stalled on.(It's
going to help you meet your deadline and do
better work along the way)
8. Creatively Blocked
You want to get that work done and sick of having it hang over you, but
you're out of good ideas.
Major reasons of being creatively blocked:
1. SELF-DOUBT(It affects many different areas of your design work and
career).
2. LACK OF MOTIVATION(It you don’t care about what you’re
designing there will likely be a point where you suffer from a lack of
motivation).
3.CRITICISM AND REJECTION(The fear of showing your designs to a
client or your boss is very real for some as criticism and rejection is hard
to deal with).
How To avoid being creatively blocked?!!
Change the method or the location in which you're doing the work.
If you're working alone, maybe run your ideas by a friend and see
if that sparks the creativity you're searching for.
Don’t set the most brilliant, the most genius, the most creative
idea ever you can't achieve
9. Dread the project
The most common reason for procrastinating is that
we just dread the job that’s in front of us. You hate it. You
know it needs to get done, but you just don't want to do
it.
How to avoid dreading your project??!
Try rewarding yourself. For accomplishing the task.
Ten minute promise. You decide you will work on that
task for at least ten minutes. Set a timer. At the end of
the time, when that timer beeps.
Pawn. There is just something about putting your
money where your heart isn't. That's really motivating.
10. Finally
“We all sorely complain of the shortness of time, and yet have much more
than we know what to do with. Our lives are either spent in doing nothing at
all, or in doing nothing to the purpose, or in doing nothing that we ought to
do. We are always complaining that our days are few, and acting as though
there would be no end of them.” ~ Lucius Seneca
