Thank you! It's a real pleasure to be here and see all of the interest and excitement around outdoor technology. I wanted to quickly thank my colleagues at the Open Space Council for helping to incubate Transit & Trails! My co-pilot in this effort, Jereme Monteau And of course all of the groups that we have been working with over the years, many of which are here today.
Before the WHAT, let's first focus on the WHY? To: 1. Help organizations enhance their website, mobile apps 2.Compile the best recreation data and give agencies control of that data 3. Make it easier for people to find and plan outdoor experiences Ok, the real reason – connect real people to.... Let's start with WHY Getting people outside on trails and in parks.
The amazing and wonderful parks, trails and open space we have here in the Bay Area and beyond. 1 million acres of open, accessible open space in the Bay Area! - Bigger than Yosemite, right here in our backyard. Thanks to many of your and the agencies you work for! How to we help make this happen? Places like this... Thanks Bay Area Open Space Community! So, HOW do we make this happen?
We've heard the why, so now WHAT? Transit & Trails (T&T) is a technology platform that helps people Find, Plan and Share outdoor experiences, with an ultimate goal of getting more people connected to the outdoors. The platform enables park, trail and outdoor agencies to manage and publish their content online and enhance their web and mobile applications. What does that mean? Help people find, plan and share amazing experiences! OK, but WHAT is it?
Well.. a website and a mobile app. Anyone can go online or download the app. There are lots of outdoor sites, what else? A website and a mobile application Great, there are a lot of those, what else?
A common platform that all park and trail agencies can benefit from and contribute to. Built specifically for Park, Trail and Outdoor groups Give them control of their data online A technology platform for publishing outdoor content. Built for Park, Trail and Outdoor groups.
Better tools to create and author quality outdoor content. So it is managed and controlled by the agency that manages the land. A platform that enables our community to.... have access to better tools for authoring outdoor content.
Once on the platform the data now in accessible format for web and mobile The data is available for your site, app and for other outdoor sites Adding to a robust regional database The data it is branded for the agency Which results in..... ..better outdoor content for all.
The API makes the data available to many The widgets make the functionality of T&T available to improve your agency's website. But good content, a nice app and website isn't enough! The platform enables us to distribute a library of widgets and API
The goal is to make your website and app better. Better, authoritative regional content for all Visitors see the same, accurate info on many websites, better for everyone To make our partner's website and mobile applications better! How about getting to the park or trail?
This is an example of a widget that can be integrated into any site to improve Trip Planning Better trip planning tools to make sure people can get to parks. Directly to the trailhead via Transit, Rideshare and other modes.

SC Park and Rec is updating their website They have limited maps of their parks and trails, no way to direct people to the trailheads Don't have a way to manage their data online A specific example – Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation. Seeing is believing, right?
The T&T platform has a series of widgets they can take advantage of in many different custom arrangements. This is the Park Widget showing their trails, campgrounds and trailheads They want to show their parks, trails, trailheads, campgrounds In an interactive map...
When a feature is selected the user is shown more information about that Trail, a map of the trail, amenities... Oh, and more details, like the trail alignment, amenities And of course...
Photos, downloadable maps, a lengthy description, And information about any regional trails, who the non-profit partner agency is... and much more Beautiful photos And...

Here is just an initial screenshot showing the widget in their site. All of these widgets are responsive so fully functional on a desktop, mobile device, pad device. They don't have to build a separate mobile application Their new site is coming.. And will provide in improved experience for their visitors.
