With your group, choose one of the innovative projects above and watch the video to
find out more about it. Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything, just be ready to
discuss these questions afterwards…
Of course you will have found some information in the video clip, but you can also talk
about things you already know or think about this product.
Why was the person interested in developing this idea?
How successful has it been?
How useful do you think this product is? For who?
What do you think will happen in the future with this product?
2. Innovation Magazine
Your class is going to produce a magazine about recent innovations and how they are
changing our lives. Each group needs to produce a series of articles about ONE innovator.
(You are recommended to write about the innovator you have just been discussing, but if
you know about another innovative idea that you think would be better to talk about,
that’s fine. Just make sure everyone in the group agrees and that you know enough about
it – you’re not expected to go away and do tonnes of research!)
Look at the list of possible topics for each article. First, your group should decide which
topics you would like to cover in your articles. Then decide who will write each one.
Finally, before writing, discuss together what information could be included in each
article.
Article topics: aspects of your chosen innovation
The Innovator The Development of the Idea
Idea’s Impact on Society The Future – what will this idea lead to next?
Comparison with other ideas in this field
Advantages and Disadvantages of this innovation
Magazine Launch
The class magazine is about to go public. There are just a few things left to do….
First, each group should tell the rest of the class about the innovation they have been
working on. Explain a bit about what it is, what it does, and then say what you areas you
have written about. Finally, give your group’s opinion about this innovation – how useful
/ revolutionary / exciting etc it is. The rest of the class should then have a chance to ask
any questions.
Once you have heard about all the innovations, decide together what the title for your
magazine should be, and what the front cover should look like. You’ll also need to decide
what order the articles should appear in. Chronological order? Alphabetical order? Start
with the most unusual / successful?
The finished magazine should be left in the library for the general public to read. ** You
may be able to do a publicity tour and visit some other classes to publicize the magazine!
