4. In August 2012, the Kern
Family Foundation
sponsored a “Clean App
Your Neighborhood”
workshop where five
teams of students
produced apps for
nonprofits.
It was from this
initiative that Habib
Khan and Brian
Nussbaum drew the
inspiration for what
they then called,
“Apps for Humanity.”
Beginning with 40
members, they set
about their goal to
create mobile
applications for
nonprofits and mobile
app development
accessible to the
community.
Entering the
second year
with four
completed
projects and
over 300
new
members,
their idea
expanded to
others.
