1. Stakeholder
An active, sociable, career oriented third year student devoted in study of economics,
social science and international relations
NEEDS A WAY TO
Need
He needs methods to enhance his capabilities in study and in future professional
career.
I have chosen two ideas: the most practical 1. Clean up and put in order his
working place. Do it every week.
and the most favorite
2. Find people who study and work effectively and talk with them. Ask them to
share their secrets.
1. Clean up and put in order his working place. Do it every week.
2. The stakeholder with enthusiasm accepted idea 1.
He said, that he knew how important for the effective work the good organized, ordered
and clean working place. He has wanted to put to order and to clean his working place
for a long time. But time passed and he did nothing.
The idea to make quick and simple prototype induced him to put to order and to clean
his working place at home as well as his book shelves in the short period of time (1-2
hours).
He made quick prototype. He cleaned and ordered his working place at home. Later he
also made order in his computer programs, labels on the working panel in his computer.
He said that he was tired of disorder at his working place and in his computer.
The simple prototyping of this idea helped him to organize his space and study more
effectively.
He is going to make order in his working place and in his computer every one or two
weeks.
He asked about new ideas how to improve the effectiveness of work and study using
some changes in the working place.
Reflection.
It is very important to make quick and easy prototype.
The simple things do work!
3. I think it would be very useful for him to know more about how the organization of the
study and working spaces influence the effectiveness of study and work.
If I were to continue working on this project, I would learn more and then explain to the
stakeholder the ideas that were mentioned in the first lecture of this course, how to
manipulate space to ignite creativity and effectiveness..
Induce stakeholder to enroll in the next class of Design Thinking Action Lab.)))
2. Find people who study and work effectively and talk with them. Ask them to
share their secrets.
The main point of this idea is to find a “hero” or “heroes”.
A “hero” is someone who is already remarkable, who demonstrates creativity and
effectiveness in his study or work, who is already doing remarkable things.
We need to find them, examine what they do and how they do it.
We could try to find heroes among:
1. friends,
2. university students, classmates,
3. colleagues of stakeholder’s parents.
Prototype for this idea:
Find a “hero” among the stakeholder’s relatives, friends, university students or
classmates.
Observe him, examine how he organizes his time, his working place. Observe his
behavior at lectures, at laboratories, at home (if possible).
Interview him.
Model plan for the interview.
1. Ask him for help to improve study and working capabilities.
2. What helps him to concentrate on the subject of study?
3. What are his useful habits?
4. How much time does he spend for his homework?
5. How does he struggle with procrastination?
6. How does he take a rest?
7. What helps him to make proper priorities?
4. 8. Try do identify his successful strategy.
To test the part of prototype that concerns the observation of “hero” ’s behavior, we
decided that the stakeholder will observe the behavior of his brother for 1 or 2 days. The
stakeholder wrote down his observations.
Interview was tested as a role-play. The stakeholder interviewed his brother.
The stakeholder said that it was quite new and interesting experience for him.
He said that when he started this interview, it induced more new questions and ideas.
He also wants to ask a “hero” about his favorite literature, music. About “hero”s”
dreams. About the role and help of “hero”s” parents.
The stakeholder supposes that it wouldn’t be an easy task to induce a “hero” to answer
deeply on all questions, to tell about all his good habits and secrets. This aspect needs
to be more explored.
Reflection.
I think in many situations one prototype is not sufficient. Often it is necessary to create a
new prototype to explore the idea more deeply.
If I continue working on this project, I would think how to create a new prototype to help
in finding and identifying more new “heroes” and how to induce “heroes” to answer the
questions more deeply.
