Dear Sir/Madam.
We really thank you for taking the time to read this proposal, it is appreciated.
Introduction
A J C groups Nigeria Limited was established in 2007 after concerned members
realized the need for “Restoring the lost culture of reading to most Nigerian
Child”. From a small volunteer group, it has grown to a corporate development
process with partners who share the same vision and zeal to penetrate the poor
reading habit in the lives of our young people today in Nigeria.*
Problem Statement
It is evidence that music and fun activities has taken over the reading and studying
culture of many Nigerian children and youths in the recent time. Much music of
the present days has no contextual beauty and meaning which is to be found in
wording and inter-woven with beautiful beat, rather a mixture of filthy sounds and
wordings which obviously has no intellectual value or worth.
It is also identified that some of our children, after watching some foreign T.V
shows or program about higher learning, discoveries and researches, desires to visit
the libraries where they can have a quite time to study and learn more on how to
become a better person in the society, but not every library has the material to
inspire their enthusiasm. Driven by the passion to build great future readers and
thinkers, AJC Groups Nig Ltd aims to establish well equipped libraries here in
Nigeria to encourage reading and research culture in the mind of the young
children of present generation and leaders of tomorrow. We believe that in every
child and in every written book –there is a hidden wisdom, knowledge and
intellects which need to be awakened or discovered. Therefore flipping over pages
of intellective books will help to awaken these potentials.
*It is not surprising that some of Nigerian universities produce poor quality
graduates. First they have to contend with poor quality, unmotivated and
highly recalcitrant high school graduates who form the raw materials for
producing the Nigerian graduate. Next they have to cope with a decline in
quality and dedication of instructors some of whom are not better than
those they are hired to train. Coupled with this is a less than optimal
academic environment where insufficient classrooms laboratories and other
teaching aids make the process of imparting knowledge grossly inadequate,
and where incessant disruptions of academic activities by strikes and public
holidays reduce the interaction time to less than half of what is required to
produce a suitable product under optimal conditions. The quality of products
is further eroded by unbridled examination malpractice and different levels
of academic fraud involving students and staff in the absence of effective
sanctions, and administrative manipulations of the graduation requirement
by some universities all ensuring that students graduate with degree results
that they do not merit,to saddle the nation with the quality of graduates she
does not deserve. The existing regulatory mechanisms have failed to ensure
the quality of products of the Nigerian university system. There is a need to
device and adopt new measures that should assure the quality of students
admitted, regulate the quality and activity of instructors, ensure that a
conducive learning environment is provided for the required period of time,
and check the rampant cases of examination malpractice among staff and
students, so as to ensure the desired quality of graduates.
Our Objectives:
Given the importance of making steady, incremental progress toward promoting
reading culture in our youths and young children, the AJC Groups has the
following objectives:
 To educate the public and promote reading culture, tackle illiteracy and
foster a page-turning habit and togetherness.
 To engage the Nigerian Youths and young children in the community in
dialogue through shared ideas/literature and as well promote tolerance and
understanding about differing points of view.
 To inspire young children and youths to become great intellectual exploits
and individuals who will become assets and advocates to their societies.
 To promote communication and book-centered discussion.
 To broaden and encourage the appreciation of reading and to engage friends,
families and neighbors in reading, with shared experiences.
Our operation:
Through our Christian lifestyle, we connect businesses, churches, families and
communities. As a result, AJC groups purport to educates, inspire, motivate and
encourage through the reading plan that are going to be carried out by our well
equipped teachers and staffs, while motivating through the word of God, our
testimonies, books, library readings, civic participation, humanitarian involvement
and philanthropic endeavors with the singular intention of restoring reading culture
to our land.
To establish and cultivate the platform that foster the facilitation of community
awareness on book reading, AJC groups will carry out operation through
Community-Wide Read program.
What Is a Community-Wide Read?
The idea is that the city that opens the same book closes it in greater harmony.
Therefore, AJC groups will be involved in community activities to convince
people to join its community-wide read program. This program is a wonderful
opportunity to bring individuals together in the community through a shared
reading experience. It purports to connect communities, and a way for individuals
to talk about something shared… it’s a great conversation starter.
All of these reading initiatives share a number of commonalities, ranging from the
concepts populist appeal, its new approach to a basic reading and discussion
model, and its ability to create a shared experience of reading among a wide
spectrum of people.
