VISUAL UT
a) Visually inspect the tank-shell,nozzles,manholes,roofs,pontoons,stairs,other appurtenances and its surrounding.
MANUAL UT
a) Scan each nozzle/manhole neck for four (4) thickness measurement readings (3,6,9&12'o clock).
b) For the fixed roof scan,mark out three grid points on each of the shell grid lines extended to the roof, 1st grid point-
200mm from the top shell edge,2nd grid point,two-third of the roof radius and the 3rd grid point will be one third of the roof
radius.2nd and 3rd points both measured from the roof center.
c) To scan the floating roof,scan each roof plate for four thickness measurement readings.
d) Record all readings on paper.
AUTOMATED UT/ACOUSTICS EMISSION TEST
Acoustic emission (AE) is the sound waves produced when a material undergoes stress(internal changes),as a result of
an external force.
A.TANKPAC (ACOUSTICS Emission Test)
a) This is a technology used to acquire corrosion rate data from tank floor/bottom plate for approximately two hours
without any form of noise being present.
B. TA-LRUT
a) Run crawler with compression probe around the entire tank annular section providing thickness measurements scan.
b)Run crawler with angled probe acquiring data from the annular section up to 400mm into tank.
C. LSI
a)Mark out grid lines on the shell circumference determined by tank diameter.
b)Run crawler vertically up to the top of the tank along each grid line.Number of grid lines for each tank is determined by
its diameter.
Achievements: The main objective of the TankPac/NDT Inspection was to determine the corrosion condition of the tank
floors (bottom plate), the tankroofs, nozzles and shells and provide a Grading/Pass Mark on the tank to enable the tank
to remain in service for a recommended period of time or be put out of service for internal and external rehabilitation.
This inspection was done while the tank remained online (ACTIVE) without the need to empty and clean the contents of
the tank.
