8. For publishers…
• Monographs, as the carriers of knowledge in
H&SS, are too precious not to protect: secure
investment
• OA e-books come alongside for-sale printed version
AND:
• Version of Record is the one at the publisher’s site
which is the one that should be referred to
• Driving usage to own content platform is key, also
for additional sales, e.g. PoD paperback

9. Inform readers explicitly
• Perceived value is influenced by free access to the
content
=> What publication history & is it peer reviewed?
• OA promotes re-use beyond the publisher’s control
while the version of record may alter:
erratum, updates, enhancements, new editions, …
Is this the publisher’s approved and latest version?
• OA requires clear information about user rights

• Provide a stamp of approval, creating confidence
• Support, not harm OA publishing activities
• Be easy to implement
