prevents you from receiving and
understanding the messages others use to
convey their information, ideas and thoughts

6. Physical barriers
• . Physical barrier is the environmental
and natural condition that act as a barrier
in communication in sending message
from sender to receiver. Organizational
environment or interior workspace
design problems, technological problems
and noise are the parts of physical
barriers. When messages are sent by
the sender, physical barriers like doors,
walls, distance, etc. do not let the
communication become effective
Disturbance in hearing due to thunders,
telephone call disconnection, problems
in television reception, message not
being sent in chat, etc. are some
examples of physical barriers of
communication.
7. Perceptual barriers
• While physical barriers are easy to
see, perceptual barriers are those
you erect in your mind. The way
you communicate could be
affected by preconceived ideas,
your typical behavior patterns or
misunderstood body language.
You must keep an open mind
when talking, be interested in the
conversation, and clearly articulate
your message so any negative
assumptions made about you by
others will fade away.
8. Emotional barriers
• While sharing information, you have to
deliver it with clarity. This knowledge
increases the probability that those
receiving the information will understand
it and be able to act on it. However,
sometimes our emotions take over when
communicating with others, and feelings
such as anger, pride and anxiety can
cloud our judgment and prevent
great communication. Emotional
intelligence is an incredibly important skill
to learn if you want to be seen as a leader
within your organization, and being able
to keep your emotions, and the emotions
of those around you in check will lead to a
more highly efficient team.
9. Cultural barriers
Cultural barriers is when people of
different cultures are unable to
understand each other’s customs,
resulting in inconveniences and
difficulties. An example would be a
Chinese living in Canada. The most
significant cultural barrier would be
language. Another cultural barrier would
be the customs and practices of a
person’s culture. In Greece, you nod
your head to say “no” and shake your
head to say “yes”. A Greek person living
in almost anywhere else may run into
some major misunderstandings.
10. Language barriers
• The inability to communicate using
a language is known as language
barrier to communication.
Language is needed for any kind
of communication, Communication
becomes difficult in situations where
people don’t understand each
others’ language. Language
barriers are the most common
communication barriers which
cause misunderstandings and
misinterpretations between people.
11. Interpersonal barriers
• An interpersonal barrier is something
that prevents an effort to communicate
between two or more people. An
intrapersonal conflict involves the self
and/or selves being blocked by a
misconception, incorrect facts, a state
of shame, anger that is unresolved,
prejudice, previous lack of success in
communicating about a difficult topic
such as work performance, Poor self-
esteem, social anxiety, and other
issues can make it difficult for people
to feel comfortable opening up to
others
12. • These barriers can effect effective communication
and we have to prevent these barriers for an
effective communication unless our we can face
difficulties while communicating.
