1. What is
Tajweed?
The Arabic word Tajweed linguistically means
'proficiency' or 'doing something well’. Tajweed
means of making one’s recitation more beautiful.
The Quran was revealed with Tajweed rules applied
to it. In other words, when the angel Jibreel (A.S)
recited the words of Allah to the Prophet
Muhammad (SAW) he recited them in a certain way,
and he showed the Prophet (SAW) the ways in which
it was permissible to recite the Quran. So it is
obligatory upon us to observe those rules so that we
recite it in the way it was revealed.
2. What is
Tajweed?
Applying tajweed when reciting Quran is
considered to be fard ain; a must for all those
who recite Quran. Allah says:
and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. (Muzzamil
73:4)
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "The one who is
proficient in the recitation of the Qur'an will be with the
honorable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites
the Qur'an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to
recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward."
3. Lahn means doing error, doing a mistake.
Reciting the Quran without following
the rules of Tajweed is Lahn.

Lahn Jali / Major Error
Doing error in the letters, in Harakah, or in Madd etc.
These kinds of errors must be avoided. Because they
change the meaning of Quranic verses, sometimes its
leads a reciter to kufr (disbelief).
Lahn Khafi / Minor Error
Doing error in Gunnah, in rules of full mouth/empty
mouth or in 2/3 Alif Madd etc. These kinds of errors also
should be avoided. Because they spoil the beauty of
