LOCATION:
Located in the evolving
Hapjeong neighborhood in
downtown Seoul, Mecenatpolis
is a transit-oriented destination
adjacent to the Hapjeong train
station

3. PROJECT FEATURES
• The three high-rise luxury
residential towers and one high-
rise class-A office tower, all above
an open-air mixed-use public realm
with retail, dining and vibrant
communal spaces. And democratic
decision making for the whole
community.
• A local NGO organizes the
teaching. Aesthetically inspired by
the elegant form and curve of a
natural canyon, Mecenatpolis’
designcaptures a free-flowing
rhythm from top to bottom. Jerde
incorporated the region’s age-old
concept of a ‘unified well’ to shape
the main central plaza that is
Mecenatpolis core gathering
area.

4. Infrastructure
The open-air village comprises
nearly 90,000 square meters of
retail and dining, as well as an
events auditorium and public park
for recreational and cultural
activities where visitors and
residents can gather and engage.
the park will serve as an outdoor
garden where sculptures from
local students will be displayed.

5. Architectural features
The organic design of the complex
evolved by reinforcing key connections
through the site from the station to the
surrounding neighborhoods, creating a
fluid pedestrian experience within the
retail, while making the best use of the
location in this emerging neighborhood
next to one of Seoul’s busiest
transportation hubs, bringing like-minded
people together in a positive
environment to inspire the generation of
new ideas.
Terraced balconies, glass bridges,
landscaped roof gardens, open-air spaces,
mesmerizing water features and a grand
central plaza all reinforce the idea of a
fluid and choreographed circulation
system at the core of the retail complex.
the high-rise towers include over 160,000
square meters of luxury housing units and
nearly 50,000 square meters of creative
office space.

11. PROJECT FEATURES
• Bricknell City Centre will be one
of the largest LEED-certified
projects in the US.
• Its luxury retail space features a
$20M elevated glass, steel and
fabric trellis called the Climate
Ribbon that helps create an energy-
efficient micro-climate. And
Car2Go is providing a low-
emission smart car service.
• The massive mixed-use project
also includes two 269k SF Class-A
office towers and two condo
towers, totaling 780 units; a 622-
seat dine-in cinema; a hotel with
263 rooms and 89 serviced
apartments. Opening: Office, hotel
and condo in late 2015, with retail
in 2016.

HDA are designers for the Climate
RibbonTM, a continuous surface of
glass (11,000 m2) and architectural
fabric sun-screening blades which has
been fine-tuned to provide an effective
microclimate within the centre,
attenuating the discomfort associated
with hot and humid Miami weather
solely through the use of passive
energy strategies.
BRICKELL CITY CENTRE strives
to bring only LEED gold designation
but bring about a new paradigm in
large scale urban development.
