3. WHAT IS AUDITORIUM
A room built to enable an audience to hear and
watch performences.For movie theaters,the
number of auditorium is expressed as the number
of screens.Auditorium can be found in
Entertainment venues,community halls and
theatres and may be used reharsal presentation
performing arts product or as a learning space.
4. AUDITORIUM STRUCTURE
1. Stalls,rchestra or arena:-The lower flat area, sally below or at
the same level of stage.
2. Balcony or galleries:-One or more raised seating platformes
towards the rear of the auditorium. In large number of
theatre,multiple number of vertically above or behind the
stalls. The first level is usually called the dress circle or grand
crcle.The heights platform or upper circle is sometimes
known as the gods,espacially in large opera houses where the
seats can be high and long distance from the stage.
3. Boxes:-Generally placed immediately to the front, side and
above the level of the stage. They are often separated rooms
with an open viewing ate which generally seat only a handful
of people.
5. SEATING ARRENGMENTS
Seating resentments is an auditorium seating layout will
either be identified as “multiple aisle” or “continental",
these terms is commonly found in the design slandered
mauaaly.Buildings codes and similar architectural
references documented. Each size is unique with specific
guild lines governing row size is uique,with the specific
guidelines governing row size ,row spacing and exit ways.
Basically a a multiple aisle will have a maximum 14-16
chairs per row with access to an asile to both ends. In
continued arrangements all seats are located in a central
section. Here the maximum quality of chair per row
allowed, building codes will require wide row spacing and
specially located go the exits.

10. ENTRY

12. BUILDING
There is a main entry gate and after crossing this
gate you can then get the lobby zone where is the
help desk is situated and an open cafeteria. In
this area of the zone there are ladies and gents
toilet system. The negative space is use here as a
hall gate 7mX5m.There is a slope from
beginning to the edge of the stage which creates
a slop inside the hall, this makes the seat sat the
back at a height and the seats in fronts lower in
level. Total 288 seat,circullation provided center
to side 0.4 m in between two rows.

14. .• Curtain:-There are soothing curtain are available
• Length of row:-There are 16 seat per aisle and 25 if one
side exit door will be 1 meter wide.
• Size:-For the size of the seats there 0.5 m/squre should
be used for per person.
• Exit:-The exits should be 1 meter wide in each exits for
150 people.
• Volume of the room:-If it is a playhouse then its should
be 4-5 cubic meter/spectreter and for opera house it will
be 6-8 cubic meter/spectare.the max distance of last
row from start of stage for playhouse it will be 24 m
and for opera house it will be 32 meter.
• In every auditorium structure 20-25% of playing area is
required for the storage area.

16. STAGE
• The main stage depth 9 meter and its length is 12
m.
• It contains pulleys to pull and drop the curtain
during ShowTime.
• The stage have different spot lights.
• There are three exits where two of them lead them
to outside and one exit lead to green room.
• One exit is near to main exit.

building.

18. WALL,FLOORING AND LIGHT
The wall and flooring of the stage and
auditorium are done with wood to have a better
acoustic and maintain the temperature through
out the year and also to present the artist
performing on the stage from lights are provided
on the ceiling in the equal distance and focus
lights on the stage and focus lights are on the
center.

• There is also a balcony where the seating containing two aisle divided in
3 parts.
• There is a projection room 7m x 3.5m.If it is the upper level so there
will be no hind rave.

22. SHAPE AND SIZE
• The size of the auditorium should be fix, the floor gangways, stage
should be calculated on the basic of 0.6 to 0.9 m.square.There are
many type of floor plan shape used but most satisfactory plan is Fan
shape. The side wall have the angle not more than 100 degree with

cm.

24. ACOUSTIC

The doors are 1.5 m wide.an attended is provide as a in

and gallery shall have two exits which can give a clear space not less than 2.1 high
and 1.5 m wide. Every passage or corridors are leading to main exit shall have not
less than 1.50 m.
• Water supply:-there should be a under ground water tank with a capacity of
50,000 liters provided for fire fighting arrengments.The location should be
accessible by the fire engine.
• Horse reel:-The auditorium must have provision shall be made for a suitable no
of first aid hose reel confirming to I.S 848 but not less than that.
• Portable fire extingusher:-H2O,CO2,soda acid type of fire extinguisher of a
capacity of 9 liter as per provided in one fire extinguisher.
• Bratllea and tactile fire exit and warning strips:-Here should be maps
of the whole auditorium provided at the entrance or in two three different area of
the auditorium

certain distance and clearly visible and can

34. ENTRY
• Three are mainly two entry at stall level, four exits.
• The balcony level have a separated entry and exit point.
• The entry point of the performers are separated.

The Valencia Opera House 86-acre site along the dry bed of the Turia River.
Situated midway between the old city and the coastal district of Nazaret, the
complex is intended by the Generalitat Valenciana to bring new focus to an
incoherent and under- developed area of Valencia and to link the center city
with the sea.

• The Valencia Opera House is meant to serve as both a major
performing arts facility for Valencia and as a dynamic urban
landmark, helping to consolidate and animate the area in which it is
built.
• The main components of its program are an auditorium seating 1,706,
suitable for opera productions as well as concerts and ballet
• 380-seat chamber music hall for ensemble performances, drama and
other events (lectures, meetings, etc.);
• an auditorium seating up to 1,520 people, equipped with advanced film
and video projection systems, offering the possibility of viewing
performances on special video screens.
• Located adjacent to the main building is a 400-seat auditorium for
experimental theater and dance, with gallery space for exhibitions of
fine arts and decorative arts.
• Another structure, known as L’Umbracle, is a promenade and parking
garage, built within an open arcade that is a contemporary reinvention
of the winter garden
79. BUILDING STRUCTURE
• In recognition of the civic importance of the Opera House,
Calatrava gave the building the iconographic character of a
monumental sculpture
• In form, the building is a series of apparently random volumes,
which become unified through their enclosure within two
symmetrical, cut-away concrete shells
• These forms are crowned by a sweeping steel sheath, which
projects axially from the entrance concourse out over the
uppermost contours of the curvilinear envelope
• The structure that results defines the identity of the Opera
House, dramatically enhancing its symbolic and dynamic
effect within the landscape, while offering protection to the
terraces and facilities beneath.

• The different volumes of the building are stacked between
horizontal promenade decks, which cantilever off the side of
the structure.
• The central core is occupied by the fully air- conditioned
auditorium of the main auditorium, which is set within an
acoustically shaped shell embedded within the cluster.
• housed in the central core are the scenery module and lifting
mechanisms for the main auditorium, whose stage measures
5,166 square feet.
• For the open performance areas, the roof and defining walls
enclosing the complex have an acoustical function, while a
glass-covered, insulated rehearsal area is provided above the
chamber music hall.

• The shell surrounding the building permits peripheral
exterior circulation to the different auditoriums, garden
terraces, cafeterias and restaurant.
• These areas are linked by promenade balconies, stairs
and exterior elevators, offering beautiful views of the
city and the gardens.
• a ticket is required only upon entering an auditorium,
the public may move freely throughout the building,
giving the Opera House a welcoming character as a
gathering place, and making music more accessible to
the people.
