Growing up in a cabin in the woods without running water or electricity might seem like an unlikely start for a career in IT management. That said, we did eventually get electricity, a backup generator, and the first home computer in the township. By high school I was building my own circuit boards and took home IBM's regional computer science award annually. Graduation saw me armed with top marks, a facility with computers, and a scholarship from Waterloo. Therefore, it seemed logical to pursue a degree in physics at McMaster.
