Nestor Cables’ new FTTA - Fibre to the Antenna Solution with no need for junc-
tion box is based on:
• connectorized main feeder cable
• watertight IP-LC connectors
• separate jumper cables to RRU’s
The main feeder cable has alternatively 6, 12 or 24 fibres and the length can
be specified by the customer from 20 to 150 m. The jumper cables with two
singlemode fibres are supplied from one end with IP-LC connectors that will
be connected with IP-LC adapters to the connectors of the main feeder cable.
The other ends of the jumper cables are supplied with the connectors that are
compatible with the interfaces of RRU’s like LC Duplex or FULL AXS connec-
tors. The standard length of the jumper cables is 3 m but other lengths are also
available.

FTTA main feeder cable
The type of the main feeder cable is non-metallic indoor/
outdoor cable FYORMU made by Nestor Cables Ltd. The
construction of the cable is central tube type consisting one
plastic tube containing 6, 12 or 24 primary coated fibres that
are loosely inside the tube. The central tube construction
gives very high crush strength. The sufficient tensile strength
is achieved with the glass yarn armouring between the central
tube and the cable sheath.
Termination of the cable
The main feeder cable is supplied with connectorized
tails. The upper end of the cable is terminated to short
duplex fibre tails with IP-LC connectors. The lower end
of the cable is supplied with single fibre tails with LC/
UPC connectors. These tails are reinforced with
aramide yarns and the outer diameter of these tails
is 2,0 mm. The lengths of these tails are stepped with
pairs and the maximum length of these tails can be
specified by the customer from 1 m to 3 m. All these
tails are protected with a flexible protection tube that
can be used also as a pulling end.

IP-LC connector
IP-LC connector is designed to exceed the requirements of
ODVA. The connectors meet IP 68 environmental sealing
ratings and are the ideal choice for low cost/easy to use
solutions in any harsh environment applications. IP-LC
connector is designed according to the IEC 61076-3-106
interface standard which allows mating to any similar
mechanical locking systems.
FTTA jumper cable
Flexible jumper cables have two single-mode fibres that are
terminated from the other end with IP-LC connectors and
from the other end with the connectors that are compatible
with the connectors of RRU units like LC Duplex or FULL AXS
connectors. The standard length of the jumper cables is 3 m
but the lengths can be specified by the customer.(Above) IP-LC connector (Senko); (below) Fixed IP-LC connector

FTTH - Fibre to the Home
The building of Fibre to the Home (FTTH) networks deviates from the general
construction of trunk line fibre optic cable routes. Differences are caused by
large amounts of fibre, many branchings, and bringing fibre optic cables all the
way to homes.
In building FTTH networks, technically viable, long-term and cost-effective
solutions in network materials, cables and installation accessories are being
sought. In our building solutions, we’re using familiar trunk line materials as
our starting point. With increase in our experience, cable and accessory
solutions specifically designed for Fibre to the Home networks have been
developed.
Since the number of subscribers may grow rapidly from a few dozen to even
thousands, it is important to plan the construction and material solutions for
networks and material solutions so that the networks can be maintained and
expanded in a controlled manner over the years. Products needed for FTTH
networks are for example:
• Cables for different FTTH layers
• Installation accessories
• Connection products
8. 8
Fibre optic cables
Fibre connections are becoming continuously more
common and contain almost unlimited possibilities for Inter-
net, speech and TV services within the same subscriber
line. Services in health and well-being, safety, remote
work, education and entertainment, high-definition TV and
express messaging – fibre optics represent the only
solution which can reliably meet the needs of households
in the future.
Nestor Cables’ comprehensive range of optical fibre
cables offers dependable solutions for various
installation conditions and to meet special requirements.
Examples of our fibre optic cable range are listed on the
right side page and are divided by installation methods.

Fibre Optic Cables in Windmill Farms
Windmill farms are built nowadays all around the world for getting more and
more pure energy. Today’s windmills are very efficient, and windmill farms can
also consist of tens or even more than 100 windmills. In order to use separate
windmills efficiently and safely in these wide windmill farms, reliable control
systems are needed. Alternatives for those are radio links and fibre optic cab-
les. Both alternatives have their own benefits but fibre optic cables are used
often because of their excellent features like being immune against all kinds of
disturbances.
Nestor Cables has delivered fibre optic cables and accessories to many wind-
mill farms in Finland. Based on these experiences Nestor Cables has developed
an own cabling concept for windmill farms consisting of all the materials for
fibre optic cablings both for small and large windmill farms. Since the control
systems are just a small part in these kind of large projects, the cabling con-
cept includes as few products as possible. The products are as follows:
• Fibre optic cables
• Splice cabinets
• Termination boxes to windmills
• Patch panels and connection cabinets to power station
20. 20
Fibre optic cables
Fibre optic cables are generally
installed to the same canal and to
the road bank as power cables. Thus
the cables shall be non-metallic and
also rugged enough to be installed
directly into the ground. For that
purpose Nestor Cables has two cable
types: one with 4 –12 optical fibres
and the other with 24 –192 fibres.
Splice cabinets
The simplest way in cablings is to install optical
cables directly from the power station to each
windmill but quite often, and especially in large
windmill farms, the cabling is ensured with two
cables to each windmills. These two cables can
be taken directly to windmills but very often these
cables are terminated to splice cabinet outside the
windmills and two alternative cables goes from the
splice cabinet to the windmill.Non-metallic buried

Termination boxes to windmills
The termination boxes have to be tight because the
humidity level inside the windmills can be very high
and additionally the boxes need to have enough
capacity for terminating up to 24 fibres. Nestor Cab-
les’ new NC-135A termination box meets all these
requirements.
Patch panels and connection cabinets to
power station
In power stations fibre optic cables are typically terminated to
normal 19” patch panels, mounted to connection cabinets with
active equipment. For this purpose Nestor has developed own
products: connection cabinet NC-2000 and pre-assembled patch
panels NC-232 with 12, 24 or 48 fibres. The construction of the
NC-2000 cabinet includes e.g. clear pathways for incoming
cables to patch panels and enough space with guides for
controlling even a big number of patch cords. Nestor’s patch
panel is easy to install and it can be mounted directly on top of
each other. For protecting patch cords the panel has cable
guides with a removable protection plate.

Microduct Cabling Solution
Installing telecommunication and access network cabling in metropolitan and
suburban areas can be demanding. In this kind of areas space is limited and
cabling should be done underground or on existing infrastructure. Microduct
Cabling Solution by Nestor Cables defies these limitations.
Microcabling system is built directly to the ground or on duct routes. Access
and metropolitan network infrastructure is widely built by laying duct systems
underground (aerial duct solutions are also available) which then can be
utilized to answer various customer needs.
Microcabling system allows flexible expansion of the network. After
microducts are installed, microduct cables can be easily blown in microducts
whether building a new network or expanding existing network. By using
microduct technology CAPEX and OPEX can be significantly reduced.
Microduct cabling solution consists of:
• Fibre optic cables
• NesDuct microducts
• Connection accessories

Why microduct cabling solution?
High fiber density of low weight microduct cables combined with ease of handling
these cables, increased jetting speeds and improved duct and space utilization
result in reduced costs.
Microduct cabling solution offers versatility because wide variety of cables, ducts
and accessories in different sizes and styles can be configurated in endless ways
in nearly all possible cabling scenarios.
Solution is perfect for growing and changing cities and neighborhoods: during
the installation you don’t need to know how the cable network should
look like years ahead because microduct network can be altered easily
afterwards.
In our past projects microduct cabling solution has been proven to be a great
success. Microduct Cabling Solution by Nestor Cables has been tested in
several projects all around the world. Recently Nestor Cables has
supplied microduct cables, ducts and accessories to various projects in
Russia and Europe. Our products have been widely used in changing
conditions (from warm summers to freezing winters) in Northern Finland
for years, so we can assure that our products can withstand even extreme
climate and conditions.

Space can be saved when using microcabling system. E.g.
when installing microducts in existing duct system more
capacity can be installed. Nestor Cables has the experience
and technology to develop and manufacture microduct cab-
les with excellent quality.
Examples of our microduct cables are FZOMU-SD Micro with
12-288 fibres and FYORMU Micro with 2 - 12 fibres. There is
also remarkably smaller version of FYORMU Micro with only
2,5 mm diameter and 5 kg/km weight.
