This document provides an overview of tropical grasslands around the world. It discusses their locations near the equator in regions like Africa, Australia, South America, and India. It describes the typical climate of tropical grasslands, which are hot year-round with distinct wet and dry seasons and annual rainfall between 20-50 inches. It also lists some of the common plant and animal species found in these ecosystems, including grasses, trees, buffalo, zebra, lions and more. Finally, it provides brief details about the Masai people and their traditional way of life in the grasslands of Kenya and Tanzania.

3. • Grasslands are areas where the vegetation is dominated
by grasses ; however, sedge and rush families can also be
found along with variable proportions of legumes,
like clover, and other herbs. Grasslands occur naturally on
all continents except Antarctica.
• Grasslands are found in most eco regions of the Earth.
• For example, there are five terrestrial
ecoregion classifications (subdivisions) of the
• temperate grasslands,
• savannas,
• shrulands biome, which is one of eight terrestrial ecozones
of the Earth's surface.
4. Tropical grasslands are located near the equator, between
the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. They
cover much of Africa as well as large areas of
Australia, South America, and India.
5. • The Savannas of Africa are probably the best known but tropical grasslands
are also located in South America, India and Australia. There are
llanos in Colombia and Venezuela, Campos of the Brazilian highlands,
pantanals of Upper Paraguay, plains in Australia and the Decca Plateau
of India.

7. • Tropical grasslands are found in tropical wet and dry
climates. These areas are hot year-round, usually never
dropping under 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Although these
areas are overall very dry, they do have a season of heavy
rain. Annual rainfall is from 20-50 inches peryear.
• Summertemperatures can be well over 100 degrees
Fahrenheit
• wintertemperatures can be as low as -40 degrees
Fahrenheit.
• They typically have between 10 and 35 inches of
precipitation a year, much of it occurring in the late spring
and early summer.
• The temperature in a rain forest rarely gets higherthan 93
°F (34 °C) or drops below 68 °F (20 °C); average humidity
is between 77 and 88%; rainfall is often more than 100
inches a year.

11. The best known people of this habitat are the Masai.
The Masai are a number of groups who share the
same language and cultural and social similarities
and who live scattered between Kenya and Tanzania.
They mainly live on sheep-breeding, but also on
farming and trade.
Breeding provides the staples of the warriors’ diet:
they only eat cow milk, meat and blood, while the old
and the women also eat butter, legumes and flour. All
of them eat a lot of honey while only the old.
These people have plenty of traditional customs
dating back to ancient times: from religious
ceremonies to the initiation of young warriors.
