It is a pleasure for me to extend my gratitude to the
entire Nav Srishti family for completing another
successful year. In all the many moments throughout
the year, the efforts of the organization to change the
lives of under privilege with the support of our
generous donors become tangible. Very honoured to
announce that the organization respecting, honouring,
interceding, and advocating so that our adolescents, youth, women may have opportunities to
reach their highest potential despite horrendous obstacles.
As an observer, I have been a witness on how the entire members tried their best to eliminate
the cause of relinquishment, abandonment through education, and dissemination of resources.
In addition, a gratifying progress approached the aim of preventing the violence, exploitation of
women and children specifically in-marginalized locations and supporting the holistic
development.
My sincere thanks to you all
It is our difference that brings us together and that makes our idea more meaningful. That
difference creates a team that is one of a kind. Congratulation to everyone and best of luck for

From Secretary’s Desk
Dear friends!
My heartfelt congratulations to the team for their commitment
towards the work for marginalised society! Milestone of the
year is that we successfully completed all our projects in time
and similarly resource utilization was also done in same pace.
This year we thank Save the Children for restarting their
partnership with Nav Srishti after a gap of 5 years.
We got an opportunity to work with many reputed donors with
long-term support. This resulted in helping us to stand in more
professional and sustainable way. Our donors are not only
giving us financial support but they are also developing our capacity in all-round manner and
also keep us updating with current government/non-government statutory needs. We maintain
maximum due-diligence in organisation. We not only have strong hold in community but
simultaneously succeeded to change the lives of many people.
In this period, committed team with their on-going work took the responsibility to organise
Missing Children Awareness Campaign in 5 districts of Delhi with the objective to protect
children and the data should decrease not increase. It was very disturbing for us when data
showed that 22 children were missing per day from Delhi. For safety and protection we decided
to focus on generating community awareness. We started this campaign on 3rd
August 2017
and it is continue till now. In this period we reached more than two lakh people.
I congratulate team Nav Srishti to have very good rapport with stakeholders like Police, WCD,
DCPCR, DCW DCPU, etc. Nav Srishti is a member of South East Delhi Local Committee. Nav
Srishti is also member of South Delhi District Advisory Committee of PC/PNDT. In Faridabad,
Nav Srishti is member Distinct Child Protection Committee (DCPC) and District Task force.
We have faced many challenges but instead of getting distressed, we took all problems as an
opportunity. Nav Srishti always believes that if we are working with passion and honesty, our
journey will not stop and many hands will come forward to support us. I thank all institutional
and individual donors, media friends, Board members, Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi
Child Rights Protection Commission and CWC, DCPU and Delhi police /NCR for their support.

are working together for children education.
 We formed ADC and made it functional at 94 AWCs, conducted regular meetings. ADC
members helped in solving problems of AWWs.
10
 We worked for making SMC (School Management Committee) functional at 12 Schools.
Though schools have formed SMCs but these SMCs were not functional. After our
intervention we made SMCs functional and conducted SMC meetings properly.
 ELM at home is the best practice for creating awareness among even illiterate. This is
really good practice and can be done with anybody.

Coverage
We have directly reached 6625 children (2814 boys and 3811 girls) through our intensive
activities. We have also reached 8899 people (1500 male and 7399 females) through our
extensive interventions.
Major Challenges faced during the year.
Mothers were not ready to give us time for meetings as most of them are working. It really took
us long time to make them understand the importance of these meetings going door to door.
Although the project start delayed as per the original timeline but still we managed to bring the
project on track & expedite the activities as per the guidance from "Save the Children" &
cooperation of Nav Srishti management.
This was very challenging for team and PC to get it done on time but team didn’t give up
instead carried it out with full zeal, which resulted in great success. Supervision along with right
direction from Secretary, Nav Srishti played a pivotal role in it.
The time we started this project one time set up cost wasn’t provided by Donor agency so we
faced the consequences which affected our work quality somehow. It was really challenging for
PC to carry out her part of work without any Computer/Laptop, printer & even tougher for
team to manage without any basic required infrastructure. But all thanks to Secretary Nav

AWC Got Appropriate Accommodation
ASF Deepmala shared this success story of AWC 90 which has gone through a change from small
space to big one at Rithala village. Ms. Rajani, AWW of this AWC shared with Deepmala that her
AWC space was very small and she couldn't conduct activities properly due to this problem. She
further told that there was darkness in the room and a sewer-lane nearby and the bad smell of that
was creating bad atmosphere at AWC.
Children and parents were really upset with this so AWW was trying to change the place of AWC but
she couldn’t. She talked to the Supervisor and other AWWs to help her in finding a new place. She
even talked to the neighbouring people but she didn’t get any solution. ASF Deepmala and AWW
Rajani raised this matter in front of the ADC members during ADC meetings and requested them to
help her to get over this problem.
ADC members helped Rajani in finding the new AWC which is having enough Space, proper light and
for conducting activities with children and parents like ECCE Day, Mother Meetings, ELM training &
ADC meetings etc. which requires more space.
Now mothers and children are really happy with this bigger & spacious new AWC. AWW and mothers
of that AWC are very thankful to ADC members, Nav Srishti and "Save the Children" for their help.
Srishti, who understood the need of the hour & thoroughly supported us in difficult times by
providing us the office set up infrastructure along with Computer & printer which resulted in
quality work.

Crèches for the Children of Construction Workers
The Program
We have been running crèches for the children of construction workers since February 2017.
The program is supported by Mobile Crèche. We are running four crèches; one at ANSAL API
Gurugram Sohna Road and the other one at Sare Home. A team of eleven persons (one
supervisor, teachers and workers) is associated with the program. This enables the mothers of
these children, who work as construction labourers, to work with minimal concerns about the
safety of their children.
Intervention area
Program is being implemented at various construction sites at Gurugram, Sohna Road, ANSAL
API, Sare Home and Shri Laxmi
Project Goal
The programme has benefitted children from weaker sections and helped parents working at
construction sites as labour to go to their work without any worry. We have covered working
mother’s children between the age group of 0-12 years.
Objectives - The programme is aimed at looking after the children of working mothers and to
provide them with supplementary nutrition, hygiene, healthcare and pre-education facility in a
safe environment.
Beneficiary Community - The program mainly benefits the children of construction labours who
are working at various construction sites.
The Work Area – We have run crèches at the construction site of Ansal API, Shri Laxmi, Sare
Home Gurugram Sohna Road and SG Grand. There have been employed migrant labourers from
Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. They have been
accommodated in 310 Jhuggis near the
sites itself. We reached around 1700
family members. During the reporting
period we have registered 155 Children
(Boys 74 & Girls 81).
Major activities
Teachers conducted regular activities
with these children as poem /
storytelling, personal hygiene and joyful
learning through games. We have also
involved these children in joyful games
for boosting their Knowledge and confidence and provided the safe and healthy environment
for children. We have organized monthly meetings with parents of children and updated them
14
regarding the progress of their children. We have organized fun activities with children. We
have also worked to make the parents
aware on the health, hygiene and
nutrition of their children. We have
organized regular meetings with parents.
Crèche is run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Many of the children belong to working
mothers who leave them at crèche in the
morning and take back in the evening.
There was a need to orient the staffs in
their roles and responsibilities. Keeping
this in mind, Mobile Crèches organized
the 12 days training for all staffs.
Significant Achievements
We have run four crèches at ANSAL API, Sare
Home, SG grand and Shri Laxmi Centre covering
155 children (74 boys and 81 girls) as per the
details given in the table.
Changes that are visible
The program has brought out visible positive
changes among the children. Their health is
improved and they have been very attentive and careful towards their education. Their
behaviour is also improving. Their parents also feel good and are happy to see the progress of
their children.

 Mr T. N. Singh says that SARE HOME Mobile Crèche's staffs are very responsible and
working very well.
Major Challenges
Migrant workers on construction sites are lacking services that provide access to adequate
health care, nutrition, safe care, access to breastfeeding and basic stimulation and nurturing.
These children end up on construction sites in India, invisible to businesses and governments.
Maternity support and crèches for young children barely exist, despite a clear need for child
care support. Children are living at unsafe and unhygienic surroundings. Lack of physical care,
emotional nurture or mental stimulation; incomplete immunizations; no exclusive
breastfeeding; exposure to water borne diseases; inadequate nutrition; disrupted schooling are
among the major challenges the children are facing at these sites.
Rubina Has Got Her Health and Happiness
When Rubina come in our centre, she was very weak. She was not participating in any
activities. She was not talking with children. We called her parents to the centre and ask
them about food given by them to children. Parents said that they gave same food
which is cooked for others in family. Then we said that food contains so much spice.
That is not food for children. We suggest them to give bananas to children. We also
taught the parents how we give the food to children so that parents also provide the
food to children with the same way.
Her mother gives food to Rubina without spices. She also gives eggs. Now, Rubina eat
food with good manner. She participates in activities. Now, she talks with manner. Now,
her weight has from MAM to Normal.
Dolly is Healthier and Happier Now
When Dolly came to our S. G. Oasis centre, we found that she is utterly malnourished and
her health falls under the MAM category. Due to her poor health conditions she
occasionally participated in the activities organized at centre and remained abysmally
quite most of the time. We started providing her nutritious food and a keen attention was
given to maintain her clothes, nails, body, shower and overall hygiene. Unlike earlier, Dolly
now looks more clean, hygienic and healthy. She actively participates in the activities
organize by the centre.

We were informed by CCC Lakhvinder on 30th August 2018 that there are four children
living in misery at Gali no– 9, 24 feet road, Adarsh Nagar, Ballabhgarh near Punjabi
Dharmshala. Their father is affected by Tuberculosis and is mentally disturbed too. Their
mother left the children and lives somewhere else. Children are being fostered by their
aunt and grandmother but they are financially poor and find it difficult to help them
anymore.
After getting the information CHILDLINE team contacted the caller and taken all the
information regarding the case and team informed him that they will contact the CWC.
Further CHILDLINE team described the case to CWC. CWC said that they will prepare Social
Investigation Report (SIR) with the help of DCPO team.

home so they suffer from hunger because there is no one to cook. They also told that they
get late to go to school because they can’t get ready on time without the help of their
grandmother.

their studies as last time Nav Srishti paid fees for their exam but this time parents have paid
fees of children and are taking care of their studies.
Sport teams for Girls Boys
In this year, we made two cricket
teams, one of girls and the other of
boys. Being a part of cricket team has
certainly helped a lot in boosting up
self-confidence, team spirit and
responsibility sharing among them.
They can have good career in sports
with full dedication, motivation and
guidance. This has certainly brought a
change in gender perspective within
the community. It was certainly not
too easy bringing them out for these
activities, but after rounds of meetings and counselling with parents and other stakeholders
we got to come across this and children now can fulfil their dreams.
Now the teams are being trained by a professional coach and the community as well as
children also are taking interest in such activities and enrolling themselves. Parents' role is
more important in all this as they are dreaming and can see the future of their kids in sports
activity as well. The teams have played matches and have won too which has boost up their
energy level and confidence. Their proper diet and schedule is being well taken care of.
In this year, we made 2 teams of girls
for Kabaddi. Becoming a
sportsperson has certainly helped a
lot in boosting up self-confidence,
team spirit and responsibility sharing
among them.

There are around 7000 indirect beneficiaries. This includes the people we have reached through
mass awareness campaign on missing children and other activities.
Major Challenges
Teachers in Santosh Nagar Government School are reluctant in data sharing and allowing
attending SMC meeting. We have been in process of getting permission from Directorate of
Education for the same.
27
SMC is not functioning as per norms and we have not been able to change attitude of school
authority to follow RTE norms in SMC because earlier formed SMC was dissolved and new SMC
is yet to be formed. We have been trying that good people join the SMC.
Community is not aware about 6 services provided by ICDS. We have been trying to orient
community about these services.
Police officers don’t take up missing children cases actively and don’t follow SOP too; there is
lack of interstate coordination. We have been working with missing children's parents and help
them out whenever we come across these cases. Women cell is not supporting for Self-defence
training to girls in Santosh Nagar.
Education department is not supporting for opening of feeder school in Santosh Nagar.
We have approached DC, DEO and SCPCR for solution on this. We were told that there is no
land available in the nearby area.

various issues as a result of it one case of corporal punishment came to our knowledge from the
group. The groups are now more aware about various issues.

still missing,

of which 4 girls passed 10th
exam with 50 % marks. Four girls are currently studying and
pursuing 12th
. Their parents have also played an important role in their studies as last time Nav
Srishti paid fees for their exam but this time parents have paid fees of children and are taking
care of their studies.
This year we have got permission for making one model Aanganwadi Centre in Santosh Nagar
by CDPO. We got a letter dated 15/10/18 for the same. For making one model A.W centre we
did data analysis, supervisor meeting and have formed mother group along with TLM.

Sonam told that she was beaten by her class-teacher in school.
Our teammates took Sonam's photo and went to meet Sonam's family along with her,

and Sonam's photo sent to their mobile as well. Our team and vigilance group
members discussed the matter. Details were sent to Sarai Government School Principal
Neelam Kaushik ji on mobile and made aware of this issue.

made further.
After this Sonam's father, vigilance group members and Childline team reached the

We have continued our work on the project "Child Rights and Community Development" since
1998 with the support of Child Rights and You (CRY). The project is being implemented in
Nangloi area.
A team of seven persons (one full-time, five part-time and a care-taker) is associated with the
project.
Intervention area
Project mainly addresses the issues related to Gosain Community residing in Nangloi and
Sultanpuri areas at three locations i.e. (i) F-7 Block (ii) WZ-49 (iii) WZ-48 Jhuggis
Project Goal
Project has a broader goal to improve overall child rights scenario in the proposed area.
Objectives
Ensure child rights and raise their voice against all odds through their capacity building and
overall development through education, sports and participation.
Beneficiary Community
Nav-Srishti is working in Gosain community since 2007. This community basically belongs to
Kanpur (UP). There are total 230 households in this community and population of about 2200.
This community has different tradition and custom and women don’t have the permission to
share their domestic and family issues with any Government official and department.
Nav-Srishti is working in Sultanpuri F-7 Block since last year. This area comes under North
district of Delhi. Nav-Srishti covered 900 households, approximately 7200 persons.
Total population of this area is approximately 5000. People are mostly engaged in private job,
working as casual labour in factory. In most of the houses both the parents are working and
they are not in a position to take all the measures about protection of their children. Sultanpuri
has been facing issue of drug abuse in the area and high rate of child sexual abuse related
cases. So, we have formed youth groups, children groups and vigilance groups to address these
issues and improving the child-safety scenario in the area. According to data received through
RTI, Sultanpuri is a high alarming area in context of missing children being reported.
Major activities
Vigilance Group meetings
We have formed vigilance groups to curb down the ratio in high alarming areas where cases of
missing children were highly reported. We have formed 10 vigilance groups in these areas. We
do capacity building of these groups by conducting sessions regularly on various issues such as
31
missing children, POCSO Act, child sexual abuse, FIR submission etc. Nav Srishti discussed with
ICPS officials to register these groups under ICPS. Process of discussion is going on. Main
Achievements of vigilance groups are given here-
 Mamta group, after discussion in the group over entry of unwanted entry of outsider
people in their colony, decided to install an iron gate which can stop entry of outsider
people.
 Two cases of senior citizens (one case Rohini court and another with intervention of DM
of Kanjhawala) were resolved and the decision was ruled in favour of senior citizens,
where old parents have got orders to get into their houses.
 Cleaning of drainage was done by coordinating with sitting Councillor and MLA in their
respective areas.
 Two vigilance groups were linked with DCPCR’s Bal Suraksha Mitra.
 Members of two vigilance groups attended training of para-legal volunteer in which
judges and advocates were the resource person. These para legal workers will now look
after the cases related to missing children, senior citizen and domestic violence.
 About 40 cases of domestic violence were reported to us that were referred to Mahila
Panchayat later.
Activities carried out with groups
Five interface meetings were held in
which Sarvjan Chetana, Mamta,
Suraksha, Manjil and Mahila Shakti
groups. SI Manju provided information to
these groups on POCSO Act. These
session have helped the group members
to build up their confidence.
Safe-City NGO organized meeting on
child sexual abuse with three of our
vigilance groups.

Srishti. They ask help to find missing children address and their status report.
32
Awareness on Missing Children
Nav Srishti started an Awareness
campaign named “Stop Missing
Children” on its foundation day i.e.
(3rd
of August in 2017). The
campaign continued this year too.
In this campaign, we organise
various activities on every Friday
distribute pamphlets in different
locations in Delhi and NCR. We
covered important places for campaign like metro stations, bus stands, bus terminals, railway
station, weekly markets, main markets, traffic lights, etc. We have covered police stations,
religious /historical places and schools during this awareness campaign.
International missing children day
We celebrated "International
Missing Children Day" on 25th
May
2018. We held Nukkad Natak and
organised rally in work area.
Child Activity Centre:-
Nav Srishti is running two child
activity centres in Sultanpuri and
Nangloi. We have 66 children at
Nangloi centre and 36 children at
Sultanpuri centre of 6 to 14 years of age. At Nangloi centre, maximum children are first
generation learner.
Adolescent Groups:-
We have four adolescent groups,
one group of boys and one of girls
at Nangloi and same at Sultanpuri.
Significant Achievements
During SMC meeting held in Sr.
Secondary school in Sultanpuri, it
came to our notice that there were
no teacher for accounts subject for
8 students, we worked for the
whole process and later on teacher for accounts was appointed.
33
During conducting the survey, it came to our notice that there were 58 children of age group 3
to 5 years who were not enrolled at any Aanganwadi centre. We took up the issue and had
meeting with supervisor and asked to enrol all of the children. The supervisor, after validating
the data, enrolled all the children at Aanganwadi centres nearby their houses to avail pre-
education, health and nutrition.
While attending another SMC
meeting it came to our notice that
there was no facility for disabled
children of ramp to access water-
tap within school premises. We
took cognizance of the matter and
raised the issue with the Principal
and later on took action on it and a
ramp for disabled children was
made and access to drinking water
was made easy for them.
In another case, which came up
from SMC meeting, some parents
raised the issue of unwanted movement of miscreant boys outside the girl school during the
recess time. It was becoming a hurdle in regular attendance of girls as incidences of eve teasing,
stalking and passing of comments were increased. So we put a request letter to SHO, P.S.
Sultanpuri for patrolling of police van especially during the recess of girls school. Later on
patrolling of police van was regular and the problem was resolved.
There was no Mohalla Clinic in
Nangloi, we have been working on
this issue earlier too, we did round
of meetings with MLA of the area
and gave him request letter
demanding opening of “Mohalla
Clinic”. After several follow ups and
lobbying with the concerned
people, the “Mohalla Clinic” got
started.
We have strengthened SMC as we have ensured presence and active participation of all SMC
members in the meetings so that the decisions should be taken in best interest of the children.
We also conduct a pre-SMC meeting with members to discuss the agendas and points to be
discussed in the meeting at school.
34
We have formed vigilance groups in different areas of Delhi especially the high alarming zone
which are most prone to cases of missing children being reported. The group consists of youth,
stakeholders' representatives and people from local community. The session we took with
them leaves such an impact that if any person is not able to continue with the group due to any
unavoidable circumstances, they replace with some other person who is active and has
knowledge on issues and problems of the community.
Capacity Building Programmes
On 12th March, 2019 we organized a state level consultation at Gandhi Peace Foundation near
ITO on the issue of “Missing Children”. Representatives from police, child protection agencies
as such CWC, Childline, CRY, Aanganwadi, DCPU, DCW, DLSA, and NGOs working on this issue
participated in the consultation. The meeting was aimed to raise the issue of missing children
cases along with initiatives taken by Nav Srishti to prevent the same in National Capital
Territory of Delhi. We published a report on it showing journey of our work on missing children
and achievements so far.
Our staff got training on MIS at PRIA institute organized by CRY
Total Beneficiaries
The program has benefitted 2920 persons (924 males and 1996 females).
Major Challenges
(a) While addressing several issues from our vigilance group, when it came to our knowledge
the case of two senior citizen cases, it was difficult for us to deal with these cases. We were also
not much aware about the intervention required in the matter. Day by day after taking
information through various sources and after attaining knowledge through meetings and
sessions on case of senior citizen we came to know about the rights they can exercise.
(b) For taking sessions in school, it has been difficult to conduct one. Schools are very reluctant
in giving permission for this and due to this we have been unable to conduct sessions. We have
been able to conduct some sessions with our interpersonal relation and good rapport but for
conducting regular sessions we need authority letter from Department of Education.
Major Impacts of the Program
The program has put much impact in our project area and on lives of people.
We used to organize meetings with children group according to their age group such as good
and bad touch, personal hygiene, menstruation, good food habits, missing children causes and
prevention, Childline, eve teasing and child sexual abuse keeping the best interest of child.
Through these meetings children have become more aware about these issues and as a result
of it having more interactive sessions now.

We also conducted meetings with adolescent groups in both the areas keeping in mind their
age group as such eve teasing, drug abuse, menstrual hygiene and on importance of education.
These sessions have helped groups in combating them to face above given circumstances
within their community and surroundings. We have witnessed that through meetings and
sessions on various issues we are bringing change in their mind-set and behaviour.
Child Got Recovered
Shatrughan Singh and his family basically belong to Chhapra district of Bihar and
have been living here in Delhi over years. He lives here with his three children and
wife. He is working in a shoe factory while her wife is working in Ganga Ram
Hospital. Khushi (changed name), his daughter, is 13 years old.
Neighbour’s daughter named Madhu has been a good friend of Khushi and used to
provide her mobile phone to talk to someone. Shatrughan’s brother in law's son has
stayed for few times with the family. It has been rumoured around the surrounding
that Khushi and Rahul (Brother in law’s son) were in affair. Khushi went to meet
Madhu on 19/05/2018 and didn’t come back. The family is suspecting involvement
of Madhu and his family in the whole incident.
We took Mala Devi to High Court at DLSA office for filing case of missing in Habeas
Corpus on 22nd
Nov, 2018.We were told that case history and case details are
required for filing it in Habeas Corpus. After that we headed to Tis Hazari Court for
taking case details with the advocate. On 26th
Nov, 2018 we went to Tis Hazari
Court for applying certified copy through which we could file the case in High Court.
On 30th
Nov, 2018 we went to Tis Hazari Court to know the status of certified copy
and we were asked to come day after. On 1st
Dec, 2018 we got the certified copy.
We again visited DLSA and we asked them to register her case and there the
advocates suggested us to wait for the next hearing which was scheduled on 17th
Dec, 2018. After that we will register her case. We then visited the DLSA on 24th
Dec, 2018 for filing the case as the court holidays has started we were unable to do
so and court will remain open from 7th
Jan, 2019.
The child has been recovered on 11/02/19 as the mother informed us. In this case
IO was less supportive. Although one has number of evidences to prove the crime
done by culprits the police did not help the parents. Khushi was recovered from an
organization in Hardwar at Uttarakhand. We have worked rigorously for this case
from the day of incidence and the child has been recovered. Had the police
performed their duty properly, the child would have been recovered much earlier.

Children Got the Right to Play
We have formed adolescent boys groups there and we have been holding meetings with them
on various issues. We have discussed about child-helpline no 1098 with the group and how it
can solve various problems related to children. We have taken many sessions on the child
protection issue and child rights. Children usually play in place nearby to our centre on
Thursdays. Some people who used to sit there started objecting their play. They opposed
children sports activity and had a heated argument with children’s also.
The next time children visited there again faced the objection from the people living there on
their sports activity. This time the children dialled 1098 and explained their issue with the team.
The representative from child help-line discussed with the neighbouring people and asked them
to let children play in park. As sports activity is also main important of child development. As
there counselling with people didn’t turn out much responsive, one representative from 1098
team dialled police on 100. The whole team reached nearest Police station and discussed the
matter with SHO requesting them to act for the same. Later on we received reply from SHO that
the beat officer will ensure that children can play in park. Since that incident children are playing
there without any objection. Children are more confident after that incident as they himself
handled the situation.
Early Action Ensured Recovery
Shri Shyam Lal and Ms. Bimla are from Rajasthan and have been living in Delhi for last
30 years. Their son Rahul studies in 9th
class in Sultanpuri. Bimla is also member of
vigilance group. On 2nd
February, 2019 Rahul went to somewhere without informing his
family. When Rahul’s mother came back to home she didn’t find Rahul. She informed
one of our staff and briefed about the whole incident. After talking to Rahul’s mother it
came to our notice that she usually asked him to concentrate on studies and had
scolded him few times.
We reached out to Rahul’s place and came to know that police denied to register the
compliant on the day of incident and asked her to visit PS- Raj Park. We reached Raj
Park Police Station and narrated the whole incident. Rahul was having a phone with him
and we told about this to police officials. He was also carrying cash with him which was
matter of more concern. Police contacted him and convinced him to be back to home.
He was going to his grand -father’s place in Rajasthan. After several calls and convincing
him he said he is coming back. He later on also realized his mistake. If the case would
not have been reported on time and members of group were not alert the child would
have been gone in hands of monsters.

Beneficiary Community
Young Girls between the ages of 10 to 25 years are the main beneficiary under the program.
Brief Description of the Work Area
The project locations being the marginalized communities have multiple problems associated
with the women and girls. Women atrocities, gender discrimination and inequality, illiteracy
46
particularly among girls, poor health and hygienic condition followed by poor health services,
domestic violence and unsafe environment for children are prevalent in the communities.
The present program intends to bring changes in the undignified situation of women and girls in
the communities through providing opportunities of education for girls (who are mostly the
first generation learners) and by minimizing the wide spread gender disparities among the
community through various awareness raising methods.
Major activities
2 remedial and 2 bridge classes are being run at
“Sangam Vihar” centre and 1 remedial class at “Neb
Sarai” centre. Total 142 students are availing the
benefits of these free classes. Students are also
provided ‘Life-Skill Training’ from time to time so as
to help them to develop and enhance their
personality. ‘Career Counselling’ sessions are also

Overall Achievements
In the wake of the incident, we have organized a vigilance group of the parents of these school-
going children’s. The main aim of this group is to keep eyes on the children until they enter the
school and leave the school after classes. This
group also works as a monitoring unit when there
is no teacher in the class and outside the school
to keep eye on the outsiders who create nuisance
in the area. There is one police station in the
area. Community members put forward the word
to the Special Police unit for women and children

these programs.
Beneficiaries
The program has benefitted 142 girls this year. We have reached 1804 girls so far while we have
covered more than 15000 families through various activities.
Major Challenges
We learned that in order to educate the girl it is necessary to give proper counselling to the
family members. Now we have started to engage the whole family into some works such as give
training to the mother in sewing or engaging them in social activities and engage the male
members in the family to other works such as in tailoring.
Major impacts of the program
The project “Beti KO Padhayenge, Desh KO Aage Badhayenge” has at the individual as well as
the community level impacted the lives of many women and girls. Many of their dreams have
been realised.
Due to this project, the community girls have a platform to discuss their educational as well as
other individual problems that they have. Their trust has been built up on Nav Srishti, because
they have spent a quality and considerable amount of time with this project. This project has
increased their level of confidence and their sense of self-reliance. They also know that the
agency is trying to empower them to face various hardships of their lives. They know that we
are trying to save them. Their parents
know that if their ward is coming to Nav
Srishti, they have nothing to worry
about.
National Girl Child Day Celebration
We celebrated National Girl Child Day
with the girls. These girls made some
beautiful drawings at this occasion.
Changes That Are Visible
After completing their training, the
women are able to work and earn a living
for their family. This also helps in changing the atmosphere and thinking of their families and
neighbourhood. They are becoming more aware about their locality and things that are
happening around them. Women are becoming self-reliant and self-sufficient. Students who
come in the training transform themselves into better human beings.
48
The girls, who join the classes, are usually helpless, under-confident and shy in nature. We have
seen that till the completion of their 6 months training period, they transform into a confident
person. Many of our students have also grabbed jobs in various reputed organizations with
these training certificates. Tailoring Centre
Anita made it Possible
Anita is a bright 24-
years-old girl who had
to discontinue her
studies when she was
14 years old, due to lack
of financial resources.
She was always
interested in getting
back to school. But, the
expenses at the study
centres made it difficult to do so.
When she heard about the program at Nav Srishti, she joined immediately and
enrolled in 10th
standard in National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). She earned
money by working as a helping labour of stonemasons in her neighbourhood to
bear the expenses of her studies and then successfully passed class 10th
.
She again enrolled in the 12th
standard and passed it too. When she joined our
bridge class she was also taking our stitching classes simultaneously. This was due to
her strong will power and confidence gained by the collective efforts of Nav Srishti
& Oracle. Now she is a good tailor in Sangam Vihar and working hard for her family
and herself, hoping to achieve her dreams.
Quotes from the Stakeholders
 Moni (Kamlesh’s mother) says thanks to Nav Srishti for saving her daughter’s education.
 Anita was determined that, before her marriage, she will complete 12th standard
education as well as the course for which she was taking training from Nav Srishti. Every
moment she told that her life was changed by Nav Srishti.
 Community group members always say that if they were gossiping on a rock, they would
not have known many things related to their lives and could not have been aware of
their rights. It has helped them to live a dignified life.

Annual Report 2018-2019 - Nav Shristi

  • 1. 1 Message from the President Welcome Partners/Fellows/Patrons! It is a pleasure for me to extend my gratitude to the entire Nav Srishti family for completing another successful year. In all the many moments throughout the year, the efforts of the organization to change the lives of under privilege with the support of our generous donors become tangible. Very honoured to announce that the organization respecting, honouring, interceding, and advocating so that our adolescents, youth, women may have opportunities to reach their highest potential despite horrendous obstacles. As an observer, I have been a witness on how the entire members tried their best to eliminate the cause of relinquishment, abandonment through education, and dissemination of resources. In addition, a gratifying progress approached the aim of preventing the violence, exploitation of women and children specifically in-marginalized locations and supporting the holistic development. My sincere thanks to you all It is our difference that brings us together and that makes our idea more meaningful. That difference creates a team that is one of a kind. Congratulation to everyone and best of luck for the future endeavours. Thank you all once again for tirelessly giving your time and efforts for the betterment of society Regards Annu Jha President
  • 2. 2 From Secretary’s Desk Dear friends! My heartfelt congratulations to the team for their commitment towards the work for marginalised society! Milestone of the year is that we successfully completed all our projects in time and similarly resource utilization was also done in same pace. This year we thank Save the Children for restarting their partnership with Nav Srishti after a gap of 5 years. We got an opportunity to work with many reputed donors with long-term support. This resulted in helping us to stand in more professional and sustainable way. Our donors are not only giving us financial support but they are also developing our capacity in all-round manner and also keep us updating with current government/non-government statutory needs. We maintain maximum due-diligence in organisation. We not only have strong hold in community but simultaneously succeeded to change the lives of many people. In this period, committed team with their on-going work took the responsibility to organise Missing Children Awareness Campaign in 5 districts of Delhi with the objective to protect children and the data should decrease not increase. It was very disturbing for us when data showed that 22 children were missing per day from Delhi. For safety and protection we decided to focus on generating community awareness. We started this campaign on 3rd August 2017 and it is continue till now. In this period we reached more than two lakh people. I congratulate team Nav Srishti to have very good rapport with stakeholders like Police, WCD, DCPCR, DCW DCPU, etc. Nav Srishti is a member of South East Delhi Local Committee. Nav Srishti is also member of South Delhi District Advisory Committee of PC/PNDT. In Faridabad, Nav Srishti is member Distinct Child Protection Committee (DCPC) and District Task force. We have faced many challenges but instead of getting distressed, we took all problems as an opportunity. Nav Srishti always believes that if we are working with passion and honesty, our journey will not stop and many hands will come forward to support us. I thank all institutional and individual donors, media friends, Board members, Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi Child Rights Protection Commission and CWC, DCPU and Delhi police /NCR for their support. Reena Banerjee Secretary

  • 11. 11 AWC Got Appropriate Accommodation ASF Deepmala shared this success story of AWC 90 which has gone through a change from small space to big one at Rithala village. Ms. Rajani, AWW of this AWC shared with Deepmala that her AWC space was very small and she couldn't conduct activities properly due to this problem. Children and parents were really upset with this so AWW was trying to change the place of AWC but she couldn’t. She talked to the Supervisor and other AWWs to help her in finding a new place. She even talked to the neighbouring people but she didn’t get any solution. ADC members helped Rajani in finding the new AWC which is having enough Space, proper light and for conducting activities with children and parents like ECCE Day, Mother Meetings, ELM training & ADC meetings etc. which requires more space. We also taught the parents how we give the food to children so that parents also provide the food to children with the same way. Her mother gives food to Rubina without spices. She also gives eggs. Now, Rubina eat food with good manner. She participates in activities. Now, she talks with manner. Now, her weight has from MAM to Normal. Dolly is Healthier and Happier Now When Dolly came to our S. Four girls are currently studying and pursuing 12th . Their parents have also played an important role in their studies as last time Nav Srishti paid fees for their exam but this time parents have paid fees of children and are taking care of their studies. Sport teams for Girls Boys In this year, we made two cricket teams, one of girls and the other of boys. Being a part of cricket team has certainly helped a lot in boosting up self-confidence, team spirit and responsibility sharing among them. They can have good career in sports with full dedication, motivation and guidance. This has certainly brought a change in gender perspective within the community. It was certainly not too easy bringing them out for these activities, but after rounds of meetings and counselling with parents and other stakeholders we got to come across this and children now can fulfil their dreams. Now the teams are being trained by a professional coach and the community as well as children also are taking interest in such activities and enrolling themselves. Parents' role is more important in all this as they are dreaming and can see the future of their kids in sports activity as well. The teams have played matches and have won too which has boost up their energy level and confidence. Their proper diet and schedule is being well taken care of. In this year, we made 2 teams of girls for Kabaddi. Becoming a sportsperson has certainly helped a lot in boosting up self-confidence, team spirit and responsibility sharing among them. • 27. 27 SMC is not functioning as per norms and we have not been able to change attitude of school authority to follow RTE norms in SMC because earlier formed SMC was dissolved and new SMC is yet to be formed. We have been trying that good people join the SMC. Community is not aware about 6 services provided by ICDS. We have been trying to orient community about these services. Police officers don’t take up missing children cases actively and don’t follow SOP too; there is lack of interstate coordination. We have been working with missing children's parents and help them out whenever we come across these cases. Women cell is not supporting for Self-defence training to girls in Santosh Nagar. Education department is not supporting for opening of feeder school in Santosh Nagar. We have approached DC, DEO and SCPCR for solution on this. We were told that there is no land available in the nearby area. Major Impacts of the Program As we have been conducting monthly meetings with our children group and aware them about various issues as a result of it one case of corporal punishment came to our knowledge from the group. The groups are now more aware about various issues. Three missing cases came to us from children groups, out of which 2 were recovered and one is still missing, In this year, 5(M-1,F-4) children were enrolled in National Institute Of Open School (NIOS), out of which 4 girls passed 10th exam with 50 % marks. Quotes from the stakeholders Nav Srishti is a charitable NGO which focuses on empowering underprivileged children by providing them with education. It’s coordinated by Mr. Uttam Kumar. He has worked tirelessly to provide a normal atmosphere to destitute children, so that by giving them equal educational opportunities, they can succeed in life and have an independent existence. Nav Srishti has bestowed a ray of sunshine to many such children and made their lives better by helping them intermingle with society and have certainly set a benchmark in humanitarian endeavours. After this, Nav Srishti’s worker spoke to the member of the Vigilance Group Lala Vijender and member Janak Prasad on this issue and Sonam's photo sent to their mobile as well. Our team and vigilance group members discussed the matter. Details were sent to Sarai Government School Principal Neelam Kaushik ji on mobile and made aware of this issue. After this Sonam's father, vigilance group members and Childline team reached the school and talked to the teachers. The teachers also apologized to them. The Childline team took counselling session of Sonam and the school teachers. The school teachers were warned that if any such incident happens in future, strict action will be taken against them. After the school is closed, when Sonam came to study in Child Activity Centre (CAC), Sonam told that today the teacher talked with me with love and not even scolded we also got the news that Principal of Sarai School Neelam Kaushik ji also scolded their staff and advised not to make such mistake in future. • 30. 30 Child Rights and Community Development Delhi The Program We have continued our work on the project "Child Rights and Community Development" since 1998 with the support of Child Rights and You (CRY). The project is being implemented in Nangloi area. A team of seven persons (one full-time, five part-time and a care-taker) is associated with the project. Intervention area Project mainly addresses the issues related to Gosain Community residing in Nangloi and Sultanpuri areas at three locations i.e. (i) F-7 Block (ii) WZ-49 (iii) WZ-48 Jhuggis Project Goal Project has a broader goal to improve overall child rights scenario in the proposed area. Objectives Ensure child rights and raise their voice against all odds through their capacity building and overall development through education, sports and participation. Beneficiary Community Nav-Srishti is working in Gosain community since 2007. This community basically belongs to Kanpur (UP). There are total 230 households in this community and population of about 2200. This community has different tradition and custom and women don’t have the permission to share their domestic and family issues with any Government official and department. Nav-Srishti is working in Sultanpuri F-7 Block since last year. This area comes under North district of Delhi. Nav-Srishti covered 900 households, approximately 7200 persons. Total population of this area is approximately 5000. People are mostly engaged in private job, working as casual labour in factory. In most of the houses both the parents are working and they are not in a position to take all the measures about protection of their children. Sultanpuri has been facing issue of drug abuse in the area and high rate of child sexual abuse related cases. So, we have formed youth groups, children groups and vigilance groups to address these issues and improving the child-safety scenario in the area. According to data received through RTI, Sultanpuri is a high alarming area in context of missing children being reported. Major activities Vigilance Group meetings We have formed vigilance groups to curb down the ratio in high alarming areas where cases of missing children were highly reported. We have formed 10 vigilance groups in these areas. We do capacity building of these groups by conducting sessions regularly on various issues such as
  • 31. 31 missing children, POCSO Act, child sexual abuse, FIR submission etc. Nav Srishti discussed with ICPS officials to register these groups under ICPS. Process of discussion is going on. Main Achievements of vigilance groups are given here-  Mamta group, after discussion in the group over entry of unwanted entry of outsider people in their colony, decided to install an iron gate which can stop entry of outsider people.  Two cases of senior citizens (one case Rohini court and another with intervention of DM of Kanjhawala) were resolved and the decision was ruled in favour of senior citizens, where old parents have got orders to get into their houses.  Cleaning of drainage was done by coordinating with sitting Councillor and MLA in their respective areas.  Two vigilance groups were linked with DCPCR’s Bal Suraksha Mitra.  Members of two vigilance groups attended training of para-legal volunteer in which judges and advocates were the resource person. These para legal workers will now look after the cases related to missing children, senior citizen and domestic violence.  About 40 cases of domestic violence were reported to us that were referred to Mahila Panchayat later. Activities carried out with groups Five interface meetings were held in which Sarvjan Chetana, Mamta, Suraksha, Manjil and Mahila Shakti groups. SI Manju provided information to these groups on POCSO Act. These session have helped the group members to build up their confidence. Safe-City NGO organized meeting on child sexual abuse with three of our vigilance groups. Missing Children – Advocacy- Advocacy work was done with DCPCR, WCD, DCW, DCP, CWC, ICDS, HM, Media, DCPU and NCPCR regarding child protection and missing children. Giving support to missing child parents for lodging FIR and ensuring that case should be followed up as per missing child SOPs. Habeas corpus was filed for the missing child on behalf of their parents. Our efforts received support from Panipat CWC was assured as they started to work with Nav- Srishti. They ask help to find missing children address and their status report.
  • 32. 32 Awareness on Missing Children Nav Srishti started an Awareness campaign named “Stop Missing Children” on its foundation day i.e. (3rd of August in 2017). The campaign continued this year too. In this campaign, we organise various activities on every Friday distribute pamphlets in different locations in Delhi and NCR. We covered important places for campaign like metro stations, bus stands, bus terminals, railway station, weekly markets, main markets, traffic lights, etc. We have covered police stations, religious /historical places and schools during this awareness campaign. International missing children day We celebrated "International Missing Children Day" on 25th May 2018. We held Nukkad Natak and organised rally in work area. Child Activity Centre:- Nav Srishti is running two child activity centres in Sultanpuri and Nangloi. We have 66 children at Nangloi centre and 36 children at Sultanpuri centre of 6 to 14 years of age. At Nangloi centre, maximum children are first generation learner. Adolescent Groups:- We have four adolescent groups, one group of boys and one of girls at Nangloi and same at Sultanpuri. Significant Achievements During SMC meeting held in Sr. Secondary school in Sultanpuri, it came to our notice that there were no teacher for accounts subject for 8 students, we worked for the whole process and later on teacher for accounts was appointed.
  • 33. 33 During conducting the survey, it came to our notice that there were 58 children of age group 3 to 5 years who were not enrolled at any Aanganwadi centre. We took up the issue and had meeting with supervisor and asked to enrol all of the children. The supervisor, after validating the data, enrolled all the children at Aanganwadi centres nearby their houses to avail pre- education, health and nutrition. While attending another SMC meeting it came to our notice that there was no facility for disabled children of ramp to access water- tap within school premises. We took cognizance of the matter and raised the issue with the Principal and later on took action on it and a ramp for disabled children was made and access to drinking water was made easy for them. In another case, which came up from SMC meeting, some parents raised the issue of unwanted movement of miscreant boys outside the girl school during the recess time. It was becoming a hurdle in regular attendance of girls as incidences of eve teasing, stalking and passing of comments were increased. So we put a request letter to SHO, P.S. Sultanpuri for patrolling of police van especially during the recess of girls school. Later on patrolling of police van was regular and the problem was resolved. There was no Mohalla Clinic in Nangloi, we have been working on this issue earlier too, we did round of meetings with MLA of the area and gave him request letter demanding opening of “Mohalla Clinic”. After several follow ups and lobbying with the concerned people, the “Mohalla Clinic” got started. We have strengthened SMC as we have ensured presence and active participation of all SMC members in the meetings so that the decisions should be taken in best interest of the children. We also conduct a pre-SMC meeting with members to discuss the agendas and points to be discussed in the meeting at school.
  • 34. 34 We have formed vigilance groups in different areas of Delhi especially the high alarming zone which are most prone to cases of missing children being reported. The group consists of youth, stakeholders' representatives and people from local community. The session we took with them leaves such an impact that if any person is not able to continue with the group due to any unavoidable circumstances, they replace with some other person who is active and has knowledge on issues and problems of the community. Capacity Building Programmes On 12th March, 2019 we organized a state level consultation at Gandhi Peace Foundation near ITO on the issue of “Missing Children”. Representatives from police, child protection agencies as such CWC, Childline, CRY, Aanganwadi, DCPU, DCW, DLSA, and NGOs working on this issue participated in the consultation. The meeting was aimed to raise the issue of missing children cases along with initiatives taken by Nav Srishti to prevent the same in National Capital Territory of Delhi. We published a report on it showing journey of our work on missing children and achievements so far. Our staff got training on MIS at PRIA institute organized by CRY Total Beneficiaries The program has benefitted 2920 persons (924 males and 1996 females). Major Challenges (a) While addressing several issues from our vigilance group, when it came to our knowledge the case of two senior citizen cases, it was difficult for us to deal with these cases. We were also not much aware about the intervention required in the matter. Day by day after taking information through various sources and after attaining knowledge through meetings and sessions on case of senior citizen we came to know about the rights they can exercise. (b) For taking sessions in school, it has been difficult to conduct one. Schools are very reluctant in giving permission for this and due to this we have been unable to conduct sessions. We have been able to conduct some sessions with our interpersonal relation and good rapport but for conducting regular sessions we need authority letter from Department of Education. Major Impacts of the Program The program has put much impact in our project area and on lives of people. We used to organize meetings with children group according to their age group such as good and bad touch, personal hygiene, menstruation, good food habits, missing children causes and prevention, Childline, eve teasing and child sexual abuse keeping the best interest of child. Through these meetings children have become more aware about these issues and as a result of it having more interactive sessions now.
  • 35. 35 We also conducted meetings with adolescent groups in both the areas keeping in mind their age group as such eve teasing, drug abuse, menstrual hygiene and on importance of education. These sessions have helped groups in combating them to face above given circumstances within their community and surroundings. We have witnessed that through meetings and sessions on various issues we are bringing change in their mind-set and behaviour. Child Got Recovered Shatrughan Singh and his family basically belong to Chhapra district of Bihar and have been living here in Delhi over years. He lives here with his three children and wife. He is working in a shoe factory while her wife is working in Ganga Ram Hospital. Khushi (changed name), his daughter, is 13 years old. Neighbour’s daughter named Madhu has been a good friend of Khushi and used to provide her mobile phone to talk to someone. Shatrughan’s brother in law's son has stayed for few times with the family. It has been rumoured around the surrounding that Khushi and Rahul (Brother in law’s son) were in affair. Khushi went to meet Madhu on 19/05/2018 and didn’t come back. The family is suspecting involvement of Madhu and his family in the whole incident. We took Mala Devi to High Court at DLSA office for filing case of missing in Habeas Corpus on 22nd Nov, 2018.We were told that case history and case details are required for filing it in Habeas Corpus. After that we headed to Tis Hazari Court for taking case details with the advocate. On 26th Nov, 2018 we went to Tis Hazari Court for applying certified copy through which we could file the case in High Court. On 30th Nov, 2018 we went to Tis Hazari Court to know the status of certified copy and we were asked to come day after. On 1st Dec, 2018 we got the certified copy. We again visited DLSA and we asked them to register her case and there the advocates suggested us to wait for the next hearing which was scheduled on 17th Dec, 2018. After that we will register her case. We then visited the DLSA on 24th Dec, 2018 for filing the case as the court holidays has started we were unable to do so and court will remain open from 7th Jan, 2019. The child has been recovered on 11/02/19 as the mother informed us. In this case IO was less supportive. Although one has number of evidences to prove the crime done by culprits the police did not help the parents. Khushi was recovered from an organization in Hardwar at Uttarakhand. We have worked rigorously for this case from the day of incidence and the child has been recovered. Had the police performed their duty properly, the child would have been recovered much earlier.
  • 36. 36 Children Got the Right to Play We have formed adolescent boys groups there and we have been holding meetings with them on various issues. We have discussed about child-helpline no 1098 with the group and how it can solve various problems related to children. We have taken many sessions on the child protection issue and child rights. Children usually play in place nearby to our centre on Thursdays. Some people who used to sit there started objecting their play. They opposed children sports activity and had a heated argument with children’s also. The next time children visited there again faced the objection from the people living there on their sports activity. This time the children dialled 1098 and explained their issue with the team. The representative from child help-line discussed with the neighbouring people and asked them to let children play in park. As sports activity is also main important of child development. As there counselling with people didn’t turn out much responsive, one representative from 1098 team dialled police on 100. The whole team reached nearest Police station and discussed the matter with SHO requesting them to act for the same. Later on we received reply from SHO that the beat officer will ensure that children can play in park. Since that incident children are playing there without any objection. Children are more confident after that incident as they himself handled the situation. Early Action Ensured Recovery Shri Shyam Lal and Ms. Bimla are from Rajasthan and have been living in Delhi for last 30 years. Their son Rahul studies in 9th class in Sultanpuri. Bimla is also member of vigilance group. On 2nd February, 2019 Rahul went to somewhere without informing his family. When Rahul’s mother came back to home she didn’t find Rahul. She informed one of our staff and briefed about the whole incident. After talking to Rahul’s mother it came to our notice that she usually asked him to concentrate on studies and had scolded him few times. We reached out to Rahul’s place and came to know that police denied to register the compliant on the day of incident and asked her to visit PS- Raj Park. We reached Raj Park Police Station and narrated the whole incident. Rahul was having a phone with him and we told about this to police officials. He was also carrying cash with him which was matter of more concern. Police contacted him and convinced him to be back to home. He was going to his grand -father’s place in Rajasthan. After several calls and convincing him he said he is coming back. He later on also realized his mistake. If the case would not have been reported on time and members of group were not alert the child would have been gone in hands of monsters.

Tailoring Centre Anita made it Possible Anita is a bright 24- years-old girl who had to discontinue her studies when she was 14 years old, due to lack of financial resources. She was always interested in getting back to school. But, the expenses at the study centres made it difficult to do so. When she heard about the program at Nav Srishti, she joined immediately and enrolled in 10th standard in National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). She earned money by working as a helping labour of stonemasons in her neighbourhood to bear the expenses of her studies and then successfully passed class 10th . She again enrolled in the 12th standard and passed it too. When she joined our bridge class she was also taking our stitching classes simultaneously. This was due to her strong will power and confidence gained by the collective efforts of Nav Srishti & Oracle. Now she is a good tailor in Sangam Vihar and working hard for her family and herself, hoping to achieve her dreams. Quotes from the Stakeholders  Moni (Kamlesh’s mother) says thanks to Nav Srishti for saving her daughter’s education.  Anita was determined that, before her marriage, she will complete 12th standard education as well as the course for which she was taking training from Nav Srishti. Every moment she told that her life was changed by Nav Srishti.  Community group members always say that if they were gossiping on a rock, they would not have known many things related to their lives and could not have been aware of their rights. It has helped them to live a dignified life.
