1. Interwaste Golf Day
Celebrating 25 years in Waste Management – September 2014
After almost 10 years the business decided to host another golf day, and make a bi-annual event for customers, suppliers and
shareholders of the holdings group, with this being the first of its kind.
The Interwaste golf day 2014 played host to 360 personnel, over 2 courses of play at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington
Golf Course. Each hole had a sponsor made up from our suppliers, who manned and entertained the players as they went
through the course. Each player received a gift pack upon registration to the value of R1000 picked out by Interwaste and
sponsored by various suppliers, and also received a completion prize at the end of the day.
There were significant prizes donated and sponsored by various companies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, longest day, longest drive, closest
to the pin and 2 cars were put up for those rare hole in one’s, sponsored by Toyota. Each person in attendance on the day
received 3 meals, refreshments and an open bar to any drink of their choice. Players were given the option of golf carts and
caddies (at their own expense), with Interwaste pre-ordering an additional 20 golf carts for the day.
This event required 3 months of planning and arrangement of sponsorships and the organisation of the golf course. The team
was lead by me as the golf day coordinator with 3 additional people placed as “heads” of various activities. The total team
managed equated to 30 individuals. The pre-organisation required the “save the date” emailers, formal invitation, capturing of
data (attendance, names, contact details, dietary requirements), four ball allocations, start time arrangements, registration set-
up, gift bag set up, prize purchasing, thank you letters, and a few other things in-between.
The total cost of the golf day rounded off to R750’000, of which Interwaste paid for R300’000
