These are some examples of typical structures of magazine covers - the main common
features are the Masthead, the Main Image, Cover stories and the Tagline.
4. The Masthead
When I did my magazine cover research (which was
presented on my blog) I decided that I was going to use
the Masthead from the ‘Empire’ magazine rather than
the Masthead from the ‘Total Film’ magazine. I decided
this because the narrow shape of the ‘Empire’ magazine
better suited the ideas which I had been having while I
did the research.
5. The Masthead (continued)
After some research I discovered that the Masthead for
‘Empire’ magazine was actually the font ‘Relay
Bold’ with some slight adjustments. So, using
Photoshop I took each letter and either cut or added
parts which were needed to make it look like the
Empire Masthead. I then decided to take the original
and add a little to it by placing smaller black
version of each letter on top.
